I hate leaving bad reviews, but this was one of the most stressful business transactions we have…read moreever had. My husband, Andrew, contacted Mr. Sweat about a week before Christmas to do some welding work on our trailer. Andrew asked for a cost estimate on the job, and Mr. Sweat said he couldn't provide an estimate until he saw the job, which we completely understood, but we were expecting an estimate for us to approve once he saw the job in person. A few days later while we were out of town, Andrew received a text from Mr. Sweat that he had spend 5 hours on the job and $250 in materials. We were surprised to receive this since we had not gotten an estimate of the cost. The next day we received a bill for $1,400. $1,100 of this was for labor for a 10 hour job. We explained that since we did not approve or even receive a quote ahead of time, we asked if he would take payments. He refused and stated multiple times that the invoice was due that day. Andrew told Mr. Sweat that we were going to have someone go and look to make sure the job was complete since we were out of town, we were not going to spend that much money on something we couldn't see and confirm that it was done correctly. Mr. Sweat said it was "not up for debate whether the job was not correctly". We asked a friend who does welding for a living to look at the work. He looked at it and said the work wasn't done well and there are holes in the weld that would need reinforced. Andrew and I decided that it was pointless to reach out to Mr. Sweat to fix the work since he had already stated it was "not up for debate". So we paid him for materials, but told him we would have to transfer the rest of the money and it would take 5 business days. He was insulting, but he agreed to wait 5 business days. After four business days, he contacted Andrew and told him he didn't believe it was taking 5 business days for the money to come over and that he would take legal action. We told him to go ahead with the legal action and he agreed to wait the full five business days. Pointless waste of time. Today is the 5th business day and we paid him the balance. All in all, we overpaid for a job that we now have to pay someone else to fix, and got accused and insulted throughout the process. If you need work done, please ask someone else, unless you're due for a good stomach ulcer.
