Wonderful spot and ice cream. Staff was pleasant and there are a few spots to sit at picnic tables and chairs. Don't forget your cash as they're cash only! read more

Battenkill Dairy is a must-stop! The ice cream is smooth, creamy, and not too sweet. The sundaes with their homemade hot fudge are amazing and the prices are very fair for the portion sizes!! I love sitting outside in the country, watching the cows while enjoying a treat. Friendly service!! There is also a little shop inside with local goods like cheese, milk, maple syrup, and coffee. A true local favorite! Nothing fancy - just good ice cream. **I wish it was organic, but that's just me! read more

Creamy ice cream and Milk chocolate! Yummy! Service was great. Cash only basis. Highly recommended!

Incredibly creamy maple walnut ice cream, possibly the best ice cream I've had in a long while, and the prices can't be beat! Delicious chocolate milk, cream, yogurt mousse pots from Argyle Cheese Farm, local meats, and the best fresh whole milk I've drunk since I worked on a dairy farm. Worth making a backroads trip for! read more

Battenkill Valley Creamery - Maple walnut ice cream - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Salem, New York

Simply the best milk around. Their cream top is delicious. Their ice cream is the best. You can also purchase other local items. Highly recommend Battenkill! read more

It's a little off the beaten path, but BOY was it worth it! Battenkill Valley Creamery has some of the best ice cream we've had in a while. The service was great. Open air picnic tables near the farm are a great place to enjoy ice cream. We didn't even go into the shop to see what dairy products they offered. Next time! read more

We frequently get their milk and it's great. But the ice cream is a whole different level. Yesterday I had one scoop pumpkin one scoop maple walnut, and my husband had a pumpkin milkshake. The ice cream is so good it's almost buttery. And it's priced well, and the service was friendly too. Plus we sat outside and there was a friendly cat and I loved him or her. What more could you ask for? read more

Their milk, half & half and cream is the absolute best! Their ice cream is good too, but not my favorite. read more

I've been a customer of Battenkill Creamery for years, buying their milk and cream at the Troy Farmers Market. If you've only had grocery store heavy cream you should definitely pick some up. I stopped by the store last weekend because I was nearby, picked up some heavy cream for strawberry shortcake and got a dish of the salted caramel ice cream. It was so delicious. I'm going to find a reason to make my way there a few more times this summer. read more

Delicious homemade ice cream as well as soft serve and ice cream concoctions like sundaes, banana splits and more. I particularly enjoyed their homemade maple walnut ice cream. Outside tables as well as indoor seating. You can also buy their milk products. Their milk was voted best milk in NY state in 2016. You can't beat local products over what the groceries carry. read more

Full disclosure: I am a home delivery customer (for about 7 years now) but have never been to the actual Salem location. I see them at various local farmers markets, county fairs and, most recently, spied product down in NYC! (had no idea they distributed as far south as the financial district). Perhaps you've heard that it's the "best chocolate milk" ever. While I'm certainly not a milk connoisseur...I must agree. Everything about Battenkill's chocolate milk is divine. Just the right creaminess, texture and sweetness....an amazing treat for sure. And, since I am not a true milk expert, I consulted with those that are. Hands down, the 2% is the favorite as compared with a few other local dairy farms. Yes. We did a taste test. My only issue is that I wish they were organic. The home delivery service is really cool. Totally old-school glass milk bottles are delivered in the middle of the night right to your doorstep - into your own fabulous old-school Battenkill-branded milk box!! It's easy to get this set up and going...and the weekly order needs to be in by 11am on Monday for a Wednesday morning delivery. Completely paperless and all done online. The only time I've had to speak to anyone is when my credit card expired and I needed to replace it. Sigh. Now I want chocolate milk. read more

Love love love this place!!! Best ice cream around! It's always a special treat to take the grandkids when they visit. Don't forget to check out the rest of the store as well...milk sold in glass bottles always tastes better...maple syrup, cream, candy and bourbon maple...Cabot cheese and butter, yogurts etc!!! read more

Great ice cream on a nice Dairy Farm but the flavor selections are a little limited....There were only like 10 flavors to choose from. They do have a nice variety of sundaes, shakes and floats though. Service was fast and friendly. There are plenty of tables outside to sit and enjoy your treat on a nice day. I liked their sign too..."From our cows to your cone" read more

Battenkill Valley Creamery - Street view - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Salem, New York

The best chocolate milk ever! We try and come her for ice cream hen ever we are in town . Homemade ice cream and great farm to stomach vibe . You can smell the farm freshness. Really liked the ice cream and large servings. read more

Absolutely delicious ice cream....which has standard thickening agents found in almost all ice creams and of which have been proven safe, unless of course you read the completely unscientific garbage written by "Food Babe." The mocha chocolate milk is something heavenly, the cheese curds delicious, even a glass of whole white milk is divine. The store offers many goodies and the farm itself well maintained with cows doing cow things and not being harmed. It's worth the trip. read more

Great products, both proprietary and from neighboring farms (e.g., the latter including grass-fed ground beef--very high quality). Milk is great and very affordable (I believe it was $2.50 for a half gallon). Ice cream was solid but maybe not as "to die for" as some had led me to believe, and it has a couple of less than natural ingredients--though I nitpick here. Overall, very good show. We will be back to try more. read more

I am from the Armpit State where we don't pump our own gas but we pump our fists, anyway your products make it down to our shelves and I would like to tell you that I hate milk from grocery stores around me. Your milk is like drinking heaven. I adore your products there delicious and if you ever need or want financial backing to put your products in the hands of anyone reach out to me. I will pull every string and kick over every rock of every large investor who has ever loaned me a red cent and send them to you. Your products are delicious and I pay a bit more for them don't care about the price, I buy as much as I can weekly because I have never had a glass of milk I could appreciate as much as I do yours. I also don't leave that many positive reviews so when the gods allow me the ability I leave a review like this. If you wish to reach out feel free. I want your milk more locally for a better price. Also I have 50 of your glass jugs so far there amazing also. I don't mind the deposit value read more

Ice cream, best milk in NY state, part of Cabot coop, located near my home. Always friendly service in small store front, nice weather has plenty of picnic benches read more

Everything from BVC I have ever had has been amazing. Their eggnog is to die for. The Meat House carries their products, so if you are in Clifton Park or Toga there is an easy place to grab them from. read more

Best milkshakes within a several hour radius. Their ice cream is flavorful, rich, and decadent, and their milk is the best in New York State. A chocolate milkshake uses their chocolate milk -- which, by itself is borderline a milkshake to begin with -- to create a depth of chocolate flavor unlike other milkshakes. Inside the store, there are dairy cases with milk (all levels of milk fat), chocolate milk, buttermilk, cheeses, ice creams, and other local farm goods. Definitely worth the drive. read more

Best ice cream and milk hands down. Always a happy day bringing the kids here for a sweet treat in the summer. They couldn't be more happy every time we go and they love seeing the cows right there! read more

Best milk in NYS if you ask me! I've cream is delicious and the staff is always friendly we find them at the farmers market, will definitely be taking a road trip to their base. read more

Great fresh delicious ice cream! Milkshakes were awesome my favorite flavors was the strawberry chocolate. Will come back again

Their ice cream is rich, creamy, and flavorful - perhaps even the best I've ever had. Having recently studied abroad in Sicily, it's the closest thing to authentic gelato that I've tried in America - even creamier and denser than American gelato! The prices were amazing, also. A kiddie cup, which was the perfect amount for me given how rich their ice cream is, was only $1.75. The same amount of ice cream goes for upwards of $4.50 where I'm from in CT. Great atmosphere, also - ate with the cows and had a beautiful view of green, rolling hills. I will definitely be back here for ice cream and more! read more

Disgusting if you ask me. This place is a total factory farm. We visited last summer and were sorely disappointed. We were surprised to find that Battenkill Valley Creamery milk is NOT organic, and it does NOT come from grass-fed cows. It may come in pretty glass bottles, but Battenkill Valley Creamery eggnog and flavored milk has high fructose corn syrup AND carageenan. Their ice cream is loaded with stabilizers and other nasty ingredients. When we visited, we snuck back to see the cows, which is not part of the regular creamery tour. We were horrified to see that Battenkill Valley Creamery is a "CAFO" confinement milking operation with 400+ cows crammed into a windowless warehouse-like barn, locked up inside, never seeing the light of day. Not to mention the manure these cows create, causing all sorts of environmental and health hazards. As you can imagine, the odor in the barn is horrific. Battenkill Valley Creamery's cows are most certainly NOT pastured. They also treat their cows with antibiotics, and feed their cows GMO soybeans. Wake up New York, don't drink this kind of horrible milk - you'd be better off drinking regular milk from the supermarket. Spend your money supporting local farmers with better production practices! read more

wish they would keep the old recipe of soft Ice cream. It is not creamy like it has been the last few years. It is icy or watery. Use to go several times a week now just to check if they are back to the good Soft server. read more

Best ice cream and milk/chocolate milk. Ever. I'm in no way a milk drinker, but the milk (especially the chocolate milk) from Battenkill is SO delicious! It's like drinking a milkshake with how rich and creamy it is. I don't live around here, but visit the area once a year or so and Battenkill Creamery is a must on the list of stops to make. The ice cream is incredible--even just going for a simple cone is 10x better than what you'll find elsewhere. And it's so affordable! $1.50 for the smallest size cone and it's still pretty big. I would be in major trouble if I lived closer because I'd be eating ice cream on a daily basis. read more

It's a creamery: the products are good and there's a great selection beyond milk; cheeses and yogurts. The ice cream is delicious and reasonably priced. Everyone who works there is friendly. Not sure what else there is to say, if you're in the area and want some awesome dairy products or to get a sundae, stop by! read more

The milk is great.***** SOFT ice cream is great***** but the hard ice cream is disappointing, as others mentioned it is full of cheap ingredients leaving it with a strange texture and taste. I think The Battenkill Creamery is better then that, and should change there recipe. read more

This place is fantastic. They have homemade ice cream on the premises. The maple walnut is my favorite. The cookies and cream is also great. They also sell milk, cheese, and meat. Cash only. read more

Cute little creamery in rural NY. We drive 40 minutes just to enjoy their delicious ice cream. Their magic mint ice cream dish was awesome!

Best dairy products in New York! Superior quality milk and ice cream!! Delicious home made hot fudge!! Wonderful owners and staff who are very generous with the local community. read more

They without a doubt produce the best milk I have purchased out of a grocery store. We've tried all sorts of milks out of stores like Whole Foods, the Fresh Market, Nugget, and other moderately-high priced grocers and this brand nails it for our chai. I mean it's as close as you get to getting fresh milk delivered to your doorstep like back in the day. I live in Albany and make a special trip to a particular grocery store in Latham just to buy their milk. read more

Chocolate milk! I was looking for a substitute for my favorite brand of chocolate milk (the truly sad part about moving: finding comparative local products!) and I've *almost* found in with BVC's milk. If only it didn't taste a little off from the additives, I'd be completely satisfied. Their other milks are good as well, and they have ice cream too! read more

I tried the famous chocolate milk a couple times but still didn't like it as much as I would have love to. I can taste the additive and that puts me off. However, their cream top milk is really good. It reminds me of mil from when I was a kid. A must try! They are at the Troy and Schenectady Farmer's market. read more

Chocolate milk, chocolate milk, chocolate milk. The other milk is excellent as well, but the chocolate milk. I've also had the ice cream, just a couple flavors. The vanilla is incredible - not just sweet but you can actually taste vanilla. read more

Wow! This ice cream contains sodium benzoate and high fructose corn syrup. Come on Battenkill you're a dairy farm for goodness sake!
