Can we give no stars? No? Had to select the minimum of one then. Having spent over £800 with this company, we tried to return 3 unopened packs of wood. The manager at first said we couldn't and said 'you were given the correct amount for your measurements!' He then relented and agreed to take the packs back, but said he would have to charge a £50 're-stocking' fee to take it back. This is despite the fact that the wood was in stock in his Holloway way when we got it.
One member of staff offered to give us a refund if we came back when the manager was not there. He calculated the correct price of what we were due back.
Sadly when we got to the shop, the manager Chris Batten was there. He refunded us LESS than the price we paid for each pack, saying we were given a discount initially. This didn't seem to tally but we were totally fed up of arguing with Chris Batten by this point. If that were not enough, to collect the 3 packs, he charged us a further £25.
When my daughter went to the store to talk to him, he initially denied being the manager, saying 'the manager is not around.' She got all this on audio as proof. He did then admit he was the sole owner and manager, when my daughter reminded him of our consumer rights.
The man was proven to be a liar. He was rude and dismissive of us as customers and please believe me, once he has got your money he will change character like a chameleon. He also treats his staff appallingly.
Avoid this man and his company at all costs. He isn't any cheaper than bigger chain companies and at least you will be able to take things further if you can have complaints. With Chris Batten the buck stops with him. Once he has your money you will be summarily dismissed in the same way he treated us - despite my mother being a pensioner. read more
