Assortment of jellies and jams.
Jenna T.

Two words: Cabernet jelly. Two of my favorites in one delicious combination that will spice up your brunch or ladies night. The cab jelly is a favorite among my friends, but we also love the Pinot Grigio jam and the monkey butter. There are so many fun and interesting combos to try-I'll definitely be back. I also picked up two fresh loaves of bread, seasoned with sea salt, rosemary and paprika. They were fabulous. I was really surprised by this quaint and unique little shop, and I'm excited to try all the new things here.

While I was reading today's paper for Mother's day gifts I saw that an usual but delicious gift would be monkey butter. Since I had planned on going to Saxonburg anyway I thought I would give it a try. They have their own parking lot in the back with a handicapped accessible entrance. If you prefer you may street park on Main St where it is located for up to two hours. There are a few steps to take to enter. This is a very charming gift shop that carries specialty foods along with big toss pillows, baby gifts, tea towels, and some other items. Everything is made on the premises and the menu varies from day to day. On Tue and Thurs they make their own homemade soup which can be frozen and sold the next day. The soup always varies. On Wed the day of my visit they were busy making all types of breads and jellies. Among their specialty breads are a salted loaf, plain loaf and biscuits. They have quite a number of jelly and jam selections and they do permit you to sample before buying. The monkey butter is made with bananas, pineapples, coconut, lemon juice, and spiced rum. Once I took a sample I knew it was love at first sight! All jellies come in both small and regular size jars. If you decide to bring your empty jar back then they give you $.05 refund on the jar. For lunch today they were making foccacias along with large filled bread rounds. Your choices today included ham and cheese, red pepper and cheese, pepperoni and cheese, or kielbasa and cheese. Cost is only $5.00 and they are a very big size. Also among the breads they sell a sweet potato loaf which I bought and froze. I got to speak to Meghan who runs the place. She explained to me that everything including the brown eggs are locally sourced from various counties. Among the other grocery items you can buy here are pancake mix, pure maple syrup, honey. They also sell soaps, candles, hand lotions, T shirts, and even lip balms. It is not an extensive gift shop but the local sourced foods as well as their own made in house foods is the big draw. Located in the back of the store is a "window" where you can see the original brick that is part of this building. In the front area is a counter where you can order food to eat in or take out and a table for your convenience. Megan also told me that in addition to their homemade soups they specialize in small quiches. On occasion they will make a vegan soup and from time to time will give vegetarian options. On Fridays they prepare an entree that varies from week to week. I decided to buy a the stuffed pepper soup and sweet potato quiches from yesterday, a sweet potato loaf, and loaf of salted bread, 3 jars of the monkey butter, and a lip balm. I learned the monkey butter is also very versatile. The staff is very warm, friendly, and outgoing. I also learned that on occasion they will come to Market Square on Thurs for their lunch farmers market. When I got home I cut into the salted bread and it was outstanding! I am saving the soup and quiche for lunch tomorrow but I am sure I won't be disappointed. Likewise I froze the sweet potato loaf until I finish this one. This is by far the best food I had so far in Saxonburg and is definitely a must visit if you are in this area. Cards are accepted as well as cash. They are a small business and they support other small businesses as well. Located on W. Main St across from the coffee, tea, and ice cream shop, it is a great place to pick up something different for that special someone in your life.

Sprankle's Neighborhood Market - Bakery

Sprankle's Neighborhood Market

Sprankle's is a small grocery-store chain, and this particular store is in Saxonburg…read more My husband and I shopped here one time. The store contained the usual departments--fruits, vegetables, baked goods, deli meats and cheeses, butcher meats, seafoods, canned and boxed foods, frozen foods, dairy, beverages, pet foods, home goods, cleaning products, etcetera. The store also sold lottery tickets and surprisingly had slot machines. This was probably our first-ever time shopping at a Sprankle's, so I paid attention to the prices and compared them to other grocery stores' prices. We thought that the blackberries, boxes of canned sodas, and individual cans of wet cat foods were priced too high. Some products had stickers that said "Reduced for Quick Sale" but did not mention the new price. I also paid attention to the quality of the foods. I noticed grapes that were moldy. Nonetheless, we did find many foods to buy: apples, bananas, green beans, potatoes, mushrooms, onion, turkey, potato chips, popcorn, drink mix, etcetera. The cashier asked us if we were members of the rewards program and if we wanted to join, and we said no to both. (We do not live nearby.) She did a very good job of scanning our foods, charging our credit card, and thanking us. Sprankle's also offers a Rewards program, home delivery, catering, and group fundraising, but I have never used them.

The deli is awesome, prices are good, and the staff is amazing.. I love going food shopping..read more

POCHA By Kye Won

POCHA By Kye Won

Pocha by Kye Won was a 34 mile road trip from New Castle, PA, and worth it! (It was a nice weekend…read moredrive in the country with the wife though, so the drive was fun too) I got the dol-sut bibimbap, the wife got the spicy pork with sweet potato noodles (those are the translucent lightly brown stretch noodles you find in so many Korean dishes. GET THEM instead of rice, or with rice if you have to have rice, just get these tasty, stretchy, noodles!) Kye-Won is who did the actual service for the food, and she is terrific. I'm VERY familiar with Korean food, and she guided us through the smaller, but well curated menu. There is no jujube chicken, no squid on a stick or oyster pancake. What they DO have is a rotating menu of kimchi ban-chan sides, all EXCELLENT! If you are disappointed by the banchan and kimchi you've had elsewhere, because it wasn't "hearty" enough, this place will fix that. I loved the place! Without reservation and unequivocally. Oh, and there's an outside covered grilling tent for AUTHENTIC Korean table grilled meats! (The Korean bbq) I can't wait to go back for that! Check out the menu pics, all current as of March '26.

Pocha by Kyewon is one of the most special dining experiences I've had in Pittsburgh…read more From the moment you walk in, you feel it's more than just a place to eat, it feels like being welcomed into someone's home. The owner greets everyone like family, checking in, chatting, and making sure you're taken care of in a way that's so genuine and rare to find. The food is incredible. You can taste the heart and intention behind every dish, this is Korean comfort food made with love. It's clear that her goal isn't just to make money, but to feed people well and share true Korean hospitality. The menu beautifully balances traditional Korean flavors with thoughtful nods to Pittsburgh, including fun items like burgers and a hot dog named after her husband, which perfectly reflects the blend of cultures here. If you're looking for amazing food, great beer, warmth, and a place that truly cares about its community, Pocha by Kyewon is a must-visit. Pittsburgh is lucky to have this gem. My favorites are Pocha Nachos KFC Wings K-Smash Korean bbq w pork belly
