I bought a livingsocial deal for a haircut/partial highlights, since the salon where I was supposed to get it done before my wedding cancelled on me last minute. Shawn squeezed me in no problem. Although I was nervous about having it done at a new place, all my worries should have been put aside. Shawn gave me wonderful subtle, natural highlights (exactly what I wanted for my naturally dirty blonde hair) and a great haircut. I have naturally red hair, but over time the gray started coming in and the red became more of a strawberry color. I missed the darker red color from my youth. I tried one last salon, Bastians. After a great conversation and in person consultation I was quoted a reasonable price for the hair and installation of microlinks so I went for it. I started going to Bastian Salon about 5 years ago when I purchased a Groupon deal for them. The salon is located in lovely Park Ridge on a main street and has easy and free street parking. Shawn, the owner has been cutting, perming, highlighting my hair these past few years and I could not be happier with her. It is easy to make appointments; I usually text her and she responds right away. She always listens to what I would like and with her professionalism she gives me great cuts each and every time. She takes her time and does not rush me out the door. She is easy to talk to and always makes me feel comfortable. The salon is welcoming and cute. Shawn is an amazing salon owner! She recently updated the look of the salon and it looks absolutely stunning! I bought a groupon (recommended by her since it would have been my first time there and it was a great deal) for a haircut and highlights. I usually go with a boring trim so this was a different experience for sure! She said she wanted to give me some layers to "sexy up" my look - and oh man, was it ever! I came into the salon at a later hour and she kept doing my hair until 2 hours after close in order to make sure it all looked amazing. The highlights were placed perfectly and I received compliments on it until I made another change and dyed it... A whole year later! I can't remember the last time I liked a haircut and color so much that I left it alone for so long, and I have never been so pleased by something in my life. Very unprofessional. I purchased a Groupon for hair Extentions. Very difficult to get ahold of someone to schedule an appointment. I called the two numbers listed on the Groupon. First number (8476925211) said that the mailbox was full so there was no way of getting ahold of someone. I called the next day and still no answer. Then I called the second number (224-250-7782) and no answer. I decided to text the 224 number and finally received a call. The person I spoke to was so rude. He said didn't even know there was a Groupon (when it states "mention this Groupon"). He used the word "stupid" and laughed when I told him I wanted to wait until May to get my hair extensions, even if I get the same hair color every time I get it done. He made me feel so comfortable on the phone that I told him I will contact Groupon myself and take my business elsewhere. What makes him think that I would trust him with my hair with such a poor representation of this salon? This salon needs to work on their communication as well as their customer service skills. read more
