    Hand packed pint....
    T A.

This place used to be okay. The last 3-4 times have been disappointing. Either a severely limited selection due to refrigeration issues; the ice cream being overly soft; workers using too much water to scoop the ice cream resulting in ice chips on the ice cream or overly wet ice cream; or the hand-packed pints not being properly packed. I advise going inside instead of using the drive thru or just driving a few miles to the BR on Minnieville.

Located in historic Occoquan VA, it's mainly a chocolate shop that ethically sources its cocoa from different countries around the world in order to make their in house (mostly dark) chocolate bars and bon bons. They also serve gelato, drinking chocolate (hot cocoa) and on select weekends homemade pizza with sourdough via Graffiti Cat! The shop is very small with no seating inside but there are a couple tables and chairs right outside and in the alley (in the winter we just get it to go or eat in the car). Parking is hard as it's very busy and it's on a historic street so it's all on the side of the sidewalk. The drinking chocolate is my favorite! I always have to order a traditional (think American hot cocoa but with a richer feel), and a European drinking chocolate (smaller cup with less milk but so rich like drinking straight melted dark chocolate!, so absolutely delicious!). I often get their bonbons as well which are handmade and have various flavors like toasted coconut, Ugandan Dark chocolate (named for the country of cocoa origin), raspberry and mint, along with a few others. I got the 70% dark chocolate, the mint chocolate, and the toasted coconut. I liked two of them but the mint chocolate tasted a bit too much like toothpaste to me so I didn't finish that one. Now onto the Pizza. They make their own sourdough for these personal size pizzas, and use fresh ingredients. They have a set menu except for one special pizza which changes each week and is updated on their website. I ordered the margarita pizza and added pepperoni on top. The margarita part was tasty and the sourdough really compliments the ingredients well...if you like sourdough you'll love these pizzas. I would say that the pepperoni is more porky than beefy and since I don't tend to like pork I didn't appreciate it as much as I usually do. If you like pork you will be fine with it. The pizza is NY style in that it is thin and chewy. I think it could use a bit more sauce but it's tasty nonetheless. My husband got the cheese pizza and he enjoyed it but not nearly as much as me (though he doesn't love sourdough like I do). The service is great and I love the adorable cat mascot for the pizza. They hand draw on each pizza box and each one is unique, which is cool. If you look out the window you'll see they 'graffitied' a graffiti cat on the brick on the side of the building. Bon bons: 4/5 Drinking chocolate: 5/5 Pizza: 4/5 TLDR: delicious dark chocolate for drinking and eating; ethically sourced. Pizza pop up on weekends is good and has a cute cartoon cat mascot. Parking sucks, but that's just historic districts for you. I dream of the drinking chocolate and need to get it at least once a month. I definitely recommend both Potomac Chocolate and Graffiti Cat.

We also had their gelato which is not for the faint hearted - strong flavors for each of them. The hazelnut was my favorite though I could not even finish the small. Nice rocking chair and seating area on the porch to people watch. We enjoyed everything but will come back most for the chocolate.

As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the sweetest woman, Ms. L, who was incredibly warm and welcoming. We ended up having a lovely conversation about business and Blue Bell ice cream, which happens to be the brand they proudly serve. The shop offers a great variety of treats, including both dispenser-style and individually wrapped candies, along with a selection of specialty sodas. They also serve milkshakes, and while the flavor selection isn't overwhelming, it includes many of the most popular and well-loved options. The space itself is small but clean, inviting, and well kept. While there are no public restrooms, the overall atmosphere makes it a pleasant place to stop in and enjoy a treat. Overall, it was a sweet and enjoyable visit, and a perfect stop if you're in the area and looking to satisfy a craving. Update 4/12/26: We're back! It's Sunday, a beautiful Sunday...so why not have a scoop or two. Ms. L was not working today but service was efficient and the ice cream is scrumptious. I decided on salted caramel with a cake cone this time and my mini chose a scoop of mango in a cup. Delightful!

We also tried the crab cake sandwich and French onion soup (also yummy). The ambiance is wonderful with French music playing and a darling patio. This place keeps the Belgian brews stocked across the spectrum. From fruity Lambics to Tripels (my personal fave) and Quadrupels, pales to darks. There's a lot to explore here. The food is pretty good too. The frites (fries) are excellent and pair well with the beer. They are thick without veering into steak fry territory, nicely crunchy, and packed with a pleasing amount of salt (and I believe a hint of vinegar). The waffles are also a standout, typically topped with light and airy cream. The merguez lamb sausage is also hearty and delicious. I wish the building itself was larger. There's only a few tables, meaning you may be in for a wait if you go during the colder months. And I recently had the chocolate mousse and didn't care for it. It was much more akin to pudding, and there wasn't a deep enough chocolate flavor to contrast with the whipped cream. There's no better place I've found in Occoquan to eat, drink, and be merry. I highly recommend you stop here when you visit.

Got seated outside right away with a view of the water and live music playing. Great start to the night. Our server was on it the whole time. I'm terrible with names and didn't catch his, but he was attentive without hovering. Drinks first: smoked old fashioned for me and it was fantastic. My fiancée got a rosé and was happy with it. The menu made it a hard call, a lot of stuff I wanted to try. We started with the corn fritters, which I did not touch because I'm not a corn guy. My fiancée destroyed them and said they were delicious, so take that for what it's worth. I went with the burger and fries. Cooked exactly how I asked, and the fries were great. Zero complaints. Then I tried one of her fish tacos and immediately regretted my entire order. Those things were amazing. Crispy, and genuinely the reason I'm coming back. The homemade chips she got with them were also really good. 5 stars. We'll be back, and I'm ordering the tacos.

The corn fritter appetizer with hot honey was good. The fish sandwich and crab sandwich (on stale, grill pressed brioche) were just edible and extremely overpriced. This is the first time I couldn't bite through a potato chip!!! When the server finally came back to ask how our food was, and I tried to explain why it was inedible, I was at loss for the right word and he provided it - stale. Guessing this was not the first time he'd had a complaint, but to his credit, he brought each of us an order of onion rings "on the house" (why that would be I don't know since the chips were included with the sandwich - probably an up charge substitution). They were hot but not much else to recommend them. The venue was kind of musty and though we were seated at a window as requested for the river view, the middle window was so dirty you couldn't really see clearly through it. For a downtown riverfront Occoquan location, this was shockingly horrible.
