As a New Yorker, I am used to yoga studios that operate like big, impersonal businesses and pack students into tight spaces, but SPY showed me how yoga is really supposed to be done! The studio is run by two friendly sisters, who take a genuine interest in their students' yoga practices and lives. They have created a warm community and a welcoming yoga practice. Fun music plays during class and the instructor demonstrates how to do all of the poses and helps students on an individual level. It is clear that the instructor has been practicing yoga and teaching it for years! She really makes her students feel comfortable and at home, especially for me as a newcomer to this studio. The yoga studio itself is a private open space with high ceilings, nice hard wood floors, dim lighting, and is very clean. The owners seem to be very receptive to feedback and special requests. Based on popular demand, they offer cooking classes, summer retreats, etc. I definitely plan to return to the studio and partake in other fun activities these ladies have to offer! The studio itself is beautiful and inviting. Our instructor Lizzie (also the studio manager) was fantastic! She took the time to explain the different exercises (a few of us were first-timers). She made us laugh while teaching us to do each movement correctly/safely. Dani, the owner, clearly has a passion for Pilates and creating a welcoming community. (For the record, their renovations look beautiful and the end result is going to be fabulous - the showers look really nice). But anyway, back to the class. I did a conditioning class in 104 degrees and OH MY- it kicked my butt in the best way possible. Our instructor, Meg, was sooooo good. She kept us all focused and hyped up. Loved her playlist! She brought so much energy and inspired me to push myself. I WISH I lived closer. My husband and I were staying at the Tandem Bike Inn as a vacation getaway and they advertised this yoga spot. I've attended two sessions at the Yoga Barn so far, with more to come. The first session was a…read moregentle yoga and crafting experience around Christmas. The second session in January was a full day of restorative yoga, guided meditation, essential oil crafting and blending, sound healing, journaling and more. These were really fulfilling experiences for me and my best friend. The sessions left me feeling at peace and very limber. I enthusiastically recommend this facility and it's instructor, as it is a peaceful, joyful setting designed to stimulate and enhance all the senses. Provided were healthy vegan/gluten free snacks and/or meals, tea and water, equipment such as mats, blocks, blankets, bolsters, enrichment materials, flower crowns, crafting supplies, sanitary & pleasant bathroom accommodations, and fire pit access (weather permitting.) Special accommodations can be made for overnight stays. The yoga and other enrichments are conducted in a red and white climate controlled barn that once housed two Clydesdale horses. I found the setting and companionship to be both grounding and encouraging. The Yoga Barn is located in picturesque, lush farmland; it also serves as an animal rescue and some of its current residents that I interacted with include Ella the pig, a mini horse, a small donkey, a Labrador Retriever... my inner child and adult self were extremely content with the surroundings and participants, both two legged and four.
