I didn't think it could get any worse than Granite here at Purdue, but I was sadly mistaken. These people are out to scam you in any way they can with absolutely no regard for you as a renter. They claim everyone gets a parking pass and they really sell this point as if it's something special. What they don't tell you, though, is that they give out way more passes than there are parking spots, so at any given time there are a few people that will not have a spot for their car, so their only option is to park on the street and get a ticket from the wrinkly old traffic cops that get off on giving out as many tickets as they can, or you may even get towed depending on where you end up having to park, which will run you $100+, and the towing companies here are predatory like nothing you have ever seen. They sit and stalk lots all day (which is illegal) so they can tow your car as soon as they get the chance (J&R Towing are the worst with this). I was lucky enough to usually be able to grab a spot, but there have been others that have been so unlucky they've racked up $1000+ in tickets and towing fees because of this. If you try to point this out to Basham, they insist that this is a completely normal policy, which it definitely is NOT (the owner is even replying to these reviews trying to make it sound not as bad as it is, but don't listen to that crock, he just wants your money). This alone should be enough to scare you away, but just wait. The maintenance at my apartment was also abysmal. They let grass and weeds grow up to about a foot tall before doing anything (just walked in from outside and there are definitely patches of grass and weeds well over a foot tall right now), and after they actually do their job, it looks almost just as bad as before because of the poor and inconsistent trimming they quickly get out of the way. The heating and cooling in my apartment were absolutely terrible. The only thing the maintenance people seem to be good at is bugging you about replacing your lightbulbs. One day my girlfriend and I were sitting in my bedroom with the door shut, and out of nowhere a maintenance guy opens my bedroom door without even knocking only to ask if we needed lightbulbs replaced. Seems like an easy e-mail to make, but I guess they have to go in everyone's bedroom to make sure. Maintenance crew is a bunch of creeps. Stay away from them. The walls between the apartments are pretty average, not too noise-transparent, but not the best. The walls and floors in the actual apartment are paper thin as usual, so you can hear a pin drop anywhere in the whole place. The real noise problem, at least in the complex that I live in, is the noise from outside. If your room is facing the street, all you can hear all day is the constant roar of cars trucks and semis flying by, because the windows let noise in so bad that it sounds like they are always open. It is loud enough to keep you from sleeping at night or to wake you up from sleep. From what I've seen, the type of people that rent from these guys are mostly the rich partying type that just don't care. So you'll also want to get used to loud large groups of people drinking and playing corn hole out in the parking lot any given day if it is even remotely nice outside, which may be your thing--not for me. The parking lot and surrounding grass is always filled with beer cans and trash that no one ever picks up. There has been a particular water bottle sitting in the grass outside in the same spot for around 3 months now without moving much. This means that the maintenance people that cut the grass have, at least once, consciously saw the water bottle laying there and instead of picking it up they chose to just go around it. What a joke! I would pick it up, but I'm curious as to how long it will sit there. These people literally do not care about anything. The rent in the 4 bedroom apartment I'm in now is $570 per person, which is way too much for what you are given. The only reason I signed the lease for this place to begin with is because I was pressed for time and 3 people I knew asked me if I would live with them. What a mistake that turned out to be. Also don't expect to get any of your deposit back, so be prepared to basically pay an overpriced 13-month lease that you will live in for ~8 months. If you are smart, you will stay far away from Basham Rentals. The only good thing I can say about this place is that the bedrooms are a little roomier than some other places, but it is still not at all worth it.
TL;DR: Don't rent from these people unless you want to be treated like a dollar bill. read more
