We were referred to Basham, by my fathers relatives, due to my Grandfathers passing (2015). Geobani "Bani" did a great job assisting them through my grandfathers services. When my father passed, unexpectedly, this being our first experience in making decisions, we received respectful services by "Bani". We met up, made decisions for our fathers casket, chose the church my father attended, and Greenlawn (South West), Bakersfield. Bani coordinated our Fathers services w/ the Catholic Church, we had to decide which pamphlet to share w/ loved ones, what headstone "Marker" to place on his grave, and dates/ times for Funeral Services at Basham Funeral Care, and he advised Greenlawn of approx.. arrival for burial. My father passed on a Monday, 4/24/17. Met w/ Bani 4/27/17 Basham Services 5/8/17. Church Service at 5/9/17 @ 10am. Green lawn Burial after church services @ 11am On 5/4/17, we informed Bani, that we hadn't found a plot, (when we previously discussed fees w/ him, he advised to look online (i.e. Craigslist), for cheaper plots. 5/7/17, we rec'd a courtesy call on fees due before services on 5/8-5/9. I asked Basham what the total would be for both Basham & Green lawn. They asked if we had a plot, and of course the answer was no. I asked, what needed to be done to get it arranged, because services were next day and burial the day after. WTH (WHAT THE HECK)!!! Money was due, but all arrangements were half processed. +ALL while grieving for a sudden passing, non of that made sense. Saturday, 5/7/17, I had to run to the bank and obtain two money orders. One for Bashams full amount, and the other for an even $5000, bc we didn't have a plot picked out to know the exact amount. I contacted Greenlawn to see if we would be able to choose a plot, but the next available apt was for the next morning at 9am. We met with our director there, where she gave us options and great service. In the discussion, she informed there would be a setting fee, however, Bani mentioned as well, so we were concerned we'd be charged twice. She advised she would speak to Basham, so we didn't get charged twice. We left, making sure we selected a plot and continued about our day, to prepare for services at Basham at 4pm. When arrived, I made payment and gave Basham attendants the CD's required for slide show and music. I told them what happened w/ the plot and they encouraged we inform management about this situation. As we discussed the time frames, the Rosary was arranged by Bani w/ church and we never heard anything along the way about it. WELL, there was NO ONE assigned to read/address the Rosary. I remained calm and asked if they had pamphlets to read off of.. I would do it myself. They advised that they have a list of individuals 'on call" they can reach out to, but there would be an extra charge of $75. "OK, I may sound petty, but C'mon!!!! We're already dealing w/ this sudden passing and the coordination of the Rosary was not confirmed w/ ANYONE!!! Here I am, trying to figure it out, all while my father is in a casket, and me not accepting this loss. I was beyond upset, but advised the attendants, I would talk to the owner, at a later time, about these concerns. Luckily, my aunt's mother in law was able to make it on time and present the Rosary. It was Beautiful! The pamphlets chosen weren't given out, as it was advised, they would be given during church service. We finally put my father to rest, at Greenlawn, on 5/9/17. The Dove presentation was sweet and all who attended loved his service. Behind the scene, was beyond stressful. My father left so suddenly, we didn't know if he had life insurance, therefore we had to raise funds to give him the nicest service possible. Thankfully we figured it all out and thanks to all the family and friends that gave donations. This experience still hurts my heart. 30 business days (M-F), passed, and we hadn't rec'd an update on my fathers headstone (ordered by Basham). I continuously contacted Basham, but was given the run around (the person in charge of ordering "markers" isn't in until 11am, or she's not in, or can I take a message and have her call you back). I called every week and didn't receive ANYTHING. I finally ran into "Bani" at the gym. I mentioned our concerns about the Marker. Next day we run into him again (at the gym) and he expressed how the "proof" of Marker had come through via email. He said he'd text to me. But I didn't receive it. Therefore, I reached out to their office and asked to speak to the person in charge of ordering markers. Longer story short, I spoke to the owner, he explained his version when expressing my concerns. He said, the remainder fee owed, approx. $357, to basham, (remember from the plot situation),I didn't have to worry about. However, there was still an outstanding amount ($500) due to Green lawn for the setting fee of marker. WTH!! And we were to pay that fee. It's 7/11/17 and I'm yet to see a proof of Marker. read more

My family has been extremely disappointed in our whole experience with Basham. During the initial appointment, my father was interrupted 3 times so other employees could get books out of the office. Information for the brochure was given to them, and lost. In finalizing the services, my father called their representative and two days later, she has yet to return the call. Completely unprofessional. During the viewing, they actually did a tour with a prospective customer, opening the chapel doors. Then they proceeded to discuss services they could provide right outside the doors of the chapel, not even moving out of our way as we were walking in and out. Totally disrespectful. Our experience with Basham was disappointing. My impression is that they have more business than they can deal with in a thorough and professional manner. They assured us several times after our initial meeting after the death of my mother, that they would be calling us to let us know when the cremation would occur. We got no call, so my daughter called them, emphasizing that we wanted to be notified when it was going to happen so one of us could be there. The employee said he was busy and would call her back - he never did. Finally, after not hearing for weeks, I called again and was told the cremation had occurred 5 days earlier! At no point in our whole relationship did Basham ever call us. It was always us trying to get information out of them. I wrote a letter of complaint to the owner. He was apologetic and offered an upgraded urn to try to make up for the error and told me to call when I decided what we wanted to set up an appointment with him. I called and was told he would call back, but of course that was several weeks ago, and I will never get that call just like we never got any other call. Of course, now I read they're in trouble with the state and are in danger of a suspended license. Apparently their employees haven't been trained in how to use their FAX machine and were faxing required docs to THEMSELVES instead of the state! Lame! read more

I wish I had took more time to look around. I was lured in by a wonderful person named Karen, I forgot the last name sorry. She was very nice and courteous and super helpful. I think because of this they gave me over to someone else who was solely about the money. They cared nothing for the grief or sadness we were going through for a parent and only concerned about how quickly we could get the money. The actual owner John Basham even kept calling me from an unavailable number to keep on me about how quickly they were needing the money. I told them that Karen was working with us in getting that and try said she was too lenient and that she wasn't handling the account any longer. I was so frustrated with the way everything was turning out but we already had dates set and already had borrowed money for the burial and went ahead and just finished everything with them. After everything was said and done we were told that we had a credit going to be issued for overpayment on the account. I never received it so called two weeks later only to be answered with they forgot to include a fee all of the sudden that coincidentally happened to be the exact amount we were owed. Please if you go through any sadness with a loved one passing, please check around before you decide to use this place and these people. read more

I am beyond happy that we turned to Basham in our time of need. I worked with Kevin Lara (I think that's his last name) through the whole entire process for my uncle and I could not have been more satisfied, compared to the director we dealt with st another facility.. he was just an angel to us!!! Not only did I appreciate all the help, the calls, the patience, and the sympathy, but so did my family. My family talked about how amazing you guys were and how you guys made us comfortable during this hard time. We can't thank you guys enough for giving us the opportunity to bring my uncle home one more time and for handling everything in a timely manner and being patient with us. We as a family chose Basham Funeral Care because It had been recommended by a director in the hospital. When our family needed tender care for the funeral of our Mother, we were dissatisfied . From the very first day that we arrived we were made to feel uncomfortable and from there it did not get any better. Although we brought our concerns to the director of the facility and the owner, we were assured that all would be taken care of. But it was not , or least not in a timely manner. The service they provided was inadequate as well as their Customer Care. What they had promised and what they delivered was not EQUAL . They failed to meet our expectations in the care of our family and our Mother in a time of our need. As of today they have not billed the Insurance or continued the process which should have only take 30 days. I or our family would never use this Mortuary again or recommend to friends. They are lacking in professionalism and Campassion. read more

I would give them less if I could. My grandfather passed on April 16th, but it took until today (May 21st) for him to be cremated! Over a whole month. The reason? none. They just said they had not gotten around to it yet. They handed us the ashes still warm. That is completely absurd and inappropriate. I cannot believe that they would let a body just sit there for weeks and not think to do anything about it! i do not have any faith in this business and I do not appreciate their lack of concern for people, alive and dead. read more

I made the mistake of contacting Basham Funeral Care to cremate my father and send his remains to his home in Phoenix. If someone dies in CA and they have a spouse, even if they are legally separated in a court of law the body belongs to the spouse. Do not give any financial information to the funeral home because they can legally take your money and do only what the spouse tells them to do. You will not be give the opportunity to cancel the transaction. Basham will not even call you to tell you the spouse has changed your contract. You will probably have to call the licensing bureau for funeral homes in CA just like I did to even find out what happened to your loved one. Stay away they CAN NOT be trusted! read more

Upon arriving and was greeted by an employee at Basham. The people were extremely unprofessional and rude. During the paperwork process, the lady seemed as if she didn't know what she was doing, she disappeared for 45mins. We were told we would get my daughters fathers ashes within 7-10 days, at the 10 day mark we hadn't heard from them. We called and they told us the ashes would be ready in a week, a week later we called and they told us the ashes would be ready in a week, and that kept repeating. A month went by and we called them and they told us we could pick up the ashes, when we got there the lengthy waiting period began, apparently his body was in the process of being cremated. Then a worker came out and said, "the ashes were on their way from the crematory which is down the street". When the ashes got there and they handed us the box it was too hot to handle, we had no idea that's what the wait was for. If we would have known the situation and what the pick up was going to be like, we would have waited a day, getting a box of your fathers ashes while still being too hot to handle was traumatizing, the smell radiating from the box was indescribable. The feelings that we had were too many to put into words, we were in utter shock. After we got home and started reading the death certificate the birth place of my daughters grandparents were put as Unknown, which they had the information the very first day we went to Basham. read more

Good Morning This is a report about this Funeral Home It is very un professional the run it as if it was farm and Family's loved one are cows just pushing people through they show no conpassion for the families making arrangements there many mistake made such as wrong caskets error in the obituraries also on the accouncements cards the printed the wrong picture. in the obituraries the printed the wron mass information so people were very confussed as to where the Mass would be held, And our Director wasnt even there to handle any problems we erer to;ld by the person that was there that he coulnt do anything to fix the problem also ther were more than one service going on anf only double doors between the too services we could here thers and vise a versa everthing that could go wrong did I understand one mistake but 5 o9r 6 and not do anythoing about it since we did pay for everything in advance to what nothing mattered to them I also will be filing a complant with the BBB if Bakersfield also with the Funeral Directors of California If any one else has had this problem with BASHAMS FUNERAL HOME please make a complaint so that this stops and no other Famil8ies have the same thing happen to them its a shame that when people are alive we all tend to put up with these type pf problems and when we died we are still putting up with these its a shame read more
