Update on my previous review for Dr. Cyra. My first review…read morewas from our experience in helping my son navigate the ARD and Special Education process at Frisco ISD. Dr. Cyra was indispensable in helping us get through that process, and based part on her efforts, my son graduated and is now moving onto college at University of North Texas. He picked that school partly based on the reputation of how they treated students with disabilities. IMHO, this reputation is unfounded. Our experience with UNT has been exhausting. The process to get into the system as a disabled student was relatively easy. From there it has not been easy. It seems like the Office of Disability Access exists solely to mitigate civil rights complaints, and they appear to do the absolute minimum in a bureaucratic manner that is more befitting a trip to the DMV with apparently no consideration that they are dealing with students that have disabilities and are already starting off at a disadvantage. Fortunately, our son has an advocate in Dr. Cyra. Starting just before school and extending into the first part of my son's first semester, she was able rectify the situation. Through experience and expertise she was able to get the Office of Disability Access focus on our son's needs and treat him like a human being rather that just another student that they were required to help because of Federal Law. If you have a student with disabilities that is struggling to get through the system, Dr. Cyra is your guiding light. Our son would be lost in the system without her.

The preschool and pre-K years were a struggle for my daughter at schools that were not set up for kiddos whose brains work differently. We worried that a school where she could be supported, listened to, and loved for who she is did not exist... until we found Vanguard. From the moment she stepped on the campus to visit, my daughter has felt at home. Her classes are small and taught by excellent professionals who lead with love and kindness at every turn. She receives individual attention when she needs it, as well as valuable, daily feedback that has helped her with her behavioral challenges, building friendships, and creating a solid academic background for the future. She and her peers learn how to love and accept themselves and their peers for who they are, even as they work to meet their daily challenges. In addition, the school encourages continual communication with families. If a problem crops up, we hear about it immediately from her teacher and we work together to figure out a solution. Parents are also encouraged to escalate concerns to school administration ASAP so that solutions can be collaboratively constructed. But at the core of everything, we have seen results: it's no longer a struggle to convince our daughter to go to school, she loves her teachers and her peers, she takes pride in her schoolwork, and her confidence has grown with each passing year. We absolutely love Vanguard and the innovative, loving, and dedicated people who work here.

I did a physical examination which takes around 45 minutes. If you are first time visitor make sure you download the Texas Health Chart App and create an account. Unfortunately, I had a difficult time finding the paper work to fill out about history. Make sure you arrive 15 minutes before your appointment to fill out paperwork. There is quite a bit to fill out and sign a bunch of consent forms. It took me around 10 minutes to look at this. The physical was not too bad. He spent a lot of time asking me about medical history. They of course seeing how I was breathing, throat and ear check and feeling around the stomach area. I remembered when I was younger there was the pubic check, I had to do squats and wear that gown and the hitting on the knee. I think this one is more simple. Then, I went to go get a blood check and drew three vials of blood to check for thyroid, liver, etc. I got my results back within a day with Dr. Lee's assessment and recommendations which is nice.
