The thing that I thought was really cool about this place is that they had some awesome, and rather unique, breakfast options, some of them even having an Asian feel to them. Oh, and they were pretty good as well. Yeah, the tea, and the service were pretty good as well, so I'd definitely recommend checking it out.

Unfortunately the café at the art gallery was not an option, since there was a huge line waiting for the limited tables that were available, so I crossed the street and found this nice little place. I ended up having a tuna salad (the options available at a lot of these small places seem somewhat limited, however that is probably because they stick with what they know) and occupied a table out on the street (though they did have a back area, but that was full, and the guy indicated that it was quite popular). The service was good, though one of the waitresses was a little sharp initially.

In fact, it was a bit of a shame that I had already eaten because this would have been a great place to come for some breakfast. It appears that Wine Bank is targeted to two crowds - those who want to buy a bottle and go through the full list, and a very casual crowd who want to stop in for a cheap drink. Perhaps price sensitivity is an issue for the area, but the wines on pour were nothing special at all. The tacky paper menu and unimpressive by the glass list stop this from being a classy affair or place worth seeking out if you're a wine buff. I'm all for individual expression, but I think the place could really benefit from a work uniform or even just a dress code - another notch that really works against this being some place special. A good spot for a casual drink of sauvignon blanc or cheap champagne, but definitely not somewhere I would recommend to visitors unless you were settling in for a full bottle.

When I first stepped in, the staff had greater me but recognised I was new so he showed me around the place (so I know where everything is) before seating me in the upstairs area. The interior is very modern and funky with a nice, welcoming feeling. As it's a cold day I ordered the waffles and a cap. The cappuccino is delicious with a lot of attention to the detail. The waffles are home made and reasonably priced, not many places do their own waffles but these ones were lightly crisp and moist, great with strawberries and ice cream. This place is great, especially for ex Melbournites like me, so give them a try :)

A traditional Italian experience!…read more The atmosphere was quite loud as it was busy during dinner time. A bigger venue would benefit this restaurant as it is quite popular. Starting with a garlic bread I was delighted with the portion and buttered both sides. Our mains did take an extended period to come out which under the circumstances is acceptable as they were run off their feet. I was pleasantly surprised to see a large portion for the lasagna for the main. Neat presentation. Gooey, melted cheese and beautiful consistency to the mince sauce. The sauce itself could have used more seasoning for me but by no means was it a bad meal. The history on the walls contributed to the warm, homely ambience of the place. Visually inviting to the eye. Big menus are often overwhelming and when you've got your choices already narrowed down for you but still quite varied it makes it pretty easy to choose. The Gov is located inside the Old Castlemaine Gaol and the barista advised us that the cafe is now fully licenced and will be holding live gigs from february 2015. The curse of the Cumby…read more My partner and I attempted to eat here once before but had to cancel our meals before we received them because he was called out for work. We should have taken that as a sign because our second attempt tonight was a huge let down. We arrived at 8:15 - 15 minutes before the kitchen closed - and we were definitely the last people to order meals for the night. I feel as though $45 for 2 bistro meals is asking a bit much but we grinned and bared it because we were hungry. I orders the blackboard special of grilled flathead and the better half went for a parma - both with chips and salad. There's nothing like looking forward to a nice meal then receiving something so soul crushingly disappointing. Getting battered fish when you've ordered grilled fish SUCKS. Technically after the kitchen had closed so it just wasn't worth mentioning. But even for battered fish it was below average, the chips were soggy and the Greek style salad was served with a mound of bean shoots on top. Who puts bean shoots on a Greek style salad?! I wasn't the only one who wants disappointed. The other half said he was blown away by the fact that his chicken parma tasted as though he was eating air i.e. it was totally tasteless. He basically had to drown the meal in salt and pepper to get through it. I definitely won't be giving the Cumby another try.
