Open, airy, cool, new happening spot in Birkdake village in Huntersville. Great range inside , outside and bar seating . Kinda Mediterranean feel to it all.
Bar area was packed when we got here on a Tuesday! Service was a tad bit slow. Definitely get on the waitlist as they don't take reservations. Which you can do online or call them. We had a 30 min wait but by the time we ordered and got drinks at the bar our table was ready.
There's a menu at the table but they work through the QR code for everything, ordering and paying. More on that later.
Our server Hannah was really just there to fill water and if we had any questions. She was pretty attentive though checking in with us.
The drinks we had were good and their margaritas are a must as they make everything fresh. No sugary syrups. I had the old thyme , a nice bourbon drink and my freinds bartaco margarita was nice cool drink, and the Rosè was a nice pour.
We ordered a few apps, the ceviche which was excellent, nice and tangy, with avocado, shrimp, chili and lime , served with crispy tortillas. So fresh.
The esquites, street corn off the cob, nice and spicy! With some cheese and lime this was a really nice and light.
The spicy cucumber salad was a nice crunchy addition to our mix, not too spicy, but good light dressing . Different.
All those were great and came out individually in a timely manor.
Then we ordered some tacos. They suggest 4 each as they a mini tacos.
We decided on 3 each to start.
The mushroom one by far my favorite . With some queso fresco this was another tasty bite. Grilled nicely.
The spicy chicken verde taco was also one I enjoyed. I love the mini size so just enough to get the flavor and different textures.
The Baja fish came out fried which I wasn't expecting. I thought grilled but I didn't ask really! We tried it anyway and was like having fish and chips! Just needed the chips!
Good batter and nice piece of fish. With the tartare sauce it was surprisingly good.
The ahi tuna my friend had she said was her favorite and it looked really good.
We also indulged in a rice bowl, with ahi tuna. This was a meal in itself. As we shared it, it was plenty. With leftovers. Really loved the tuna here. Really nice cut and rare! The bowl had brown rice, peppers and a cabbage slaw in a vinaigrette. This was another winner we all enjoyed.
The desserts! We had the key lime pie in a jar which was amazing, tangy , limey, and a fabulous crust . So smooth and light.
The tres leche cake also came in a jar which was different. This had some coconut inside the cake and milky inside the top was also drizzled with caramel and had toasted coconut. I'd say more creamy than milk. But I liked the consistency of it and really liked the coconut inside. Subtle.
Had a couple of espresso martinis with dessert, these here are made with tequila. It wasn't bad but I prefer the vodka originals! Good to try something different though.
Shame we had eaten too much to finish those fabulous desserts.
The ordering with QR code thing got a bit annoying honestly. Everytime we wanted a drink and it takes you off the order sheet after a while so you have to scan the code again everytime. I didn't love this part of the dining. Or the service. Hence lost star. They automatically add gratuity which I don't think they should do since I did my own ordering. I would still have left Hannah a tip regardless. They also ask if you want to leave an additional tip. Which also surprised me. I'm not sure how well this system works anyway as we kept getting servers come to our table with food and drinks we hadn't ordered!
Anyway!
Overall the food and drinks and the atmosphere here are top notch. A great casual place for friends, families and a date night. Just didn't love the system !! read more
