barrio de raval, or the raval neighborhood, is a historic neighborhood that borders las ramblas, and is known for a vibrant nightlife with plenty of cabarets, bars, and restaurants. it is unfortunately, also known for being a neighborhood with a high crime and prostitution rate, especially after dark, so be weary after the sun sets. the immigrant population is very diverse here, with residents migrating to barcelona from south america, the middle east, southeast asia, and eastern europe. we walked around here during the daytime, when this area was heavily populated with people, locals and tourists alike, and had no issues with safety. we had a chance to observe the unique architecture and design of this neighborhood as each alley looked a bit different from the next. lots of flavour, lots of character.....just be careful if you're here after dark! read more
