I have been taking my animals to Illya for almost 10 years. He has been incredibly fair and caring with them. It started when my Shit-zu was peeing blood, Illya told me to bring him in right away (even though it was a holiday and after hours). Fast forward a couple of years and the same dog - had glaucoma in 1 eye. After spending over $500 in the city to be told this was the situation, I took him to Illya, the eye was removed and when I asked if there were other options - he said yes- we could drain it repeatedly- it will be painful and that is called milking the client- not happening here. Two years later the other eye was removed due to glaucoma- Oliver is now 14 years old and still in great health.
This past January - we rushed our cat in- Illya ran every test he could to try and save Thor. Unfortunately after 3 rounds of bloodwork, antibiotics, 3 times knocking him out to take blood and a cathater as well as 6 days in house care there was nothing more that could be done. He waited for me to bring my daughter after hours, so we could say goodbye and be with Thor as he passed. They never rushed us and the compassion shown was incredible. Illya explained EVERY SINGLE test and procedure done on Thor so my daughter would understand. He gave her all the time she needed with her baby. He apologized to me that the bill was so high ($1000) would have been far more than that in the city.
Any time I have ever had a problem with my animals I have made the 90 minute drive out to Barrhead. Illya is a gruff, no sugar coating kinda guy. He tells it like it is and does not pull punches. The care he shows animals and their owners is second to none. If you cannot handle someone who doesn't fart sunshine and rose scented rainbows then do not go see him. He does not believe in overcharging his clients and I have recommended many many friends to him. All of which have said the same - he is an incredible Vet. His passion is the animals!!!! I will continue to recommend him as will everyone I have sent his way!
