First off, their sign-up and pick-up is easy and done online through Farmigo. Their CSA subscription is flexible in that you can put a delivery hold and get credit back. Their customer service is very responsive.... and best of all, you get to enjoy the best summer fruits like cherries, plums, peaches, and nectarines! They do a great job informing you what's in the box, and what's going on at the farm and give you notice when the boxes are delivered to your pick-up location. I appreciate the transparency in their communication. This year, for the first time, they partnered with another farm for berries. We jumped on that since my toddler can consume so many berries. However, maybe due to the weather this year, the berries were quite disappointing in sweetness and size. About three weeks in, my husband and I decided we wouldn't get the berry next summer. Well, Collins Family Orchards sent an email shortly after saying they were not of the quality they were expecting and refunded us for the remainder. I appreciate their proactiveness. It made it so I had more confidence in getting the berries again if it is offered next year.

I have never been so disappointed with a vender at a farmers market! Shame on Collins Family…read moreOrchards for having such poor selection in fruit and actually selling sub quality fruit today at the Lake Forest Park Farmers Market. I understand that vendors have to follow COVID restriction guidelines by selecting produce for the customers, but we should be able to trust that quality selections will be made on our behalf. I was buying 1 pound of Rainier cherries today which are $7/lb - not cheap but worth it. Over half of the cherries these two gals selected were spotted, bruised, had those weird little appendages and just looked bad. I couldn't believe it. It left me feeling I couldn't walk away and feel good about this transaction so I was honest and told them these cherries were not good and wanted to exchange for the other cherries which were big, juicy and healthy looking. They were rude and wanted me to take the discards with me since I had *touched* them. Maybe they can't resell them because they've been touched by a customer, but seriously, they shouldn't have been selling those anyway - they were discards to begin with. I will NEVER buy from this vender again and I suggest that you double check the quality before you walk away from the stand.

While it's not a giant market, it encompasses about two city blocks and has Thirty or so vendors. The majority of the vendors are from farms either in Yakima or some of the neighboring communities. When we first attended a few weeks ago, there was an incredible amount of produce available. It ranges from veggies, to berries, to just about any type of fruit you could imagine. The best part however was the fact that there's really not a lot of price difference between here and the stores around. And most farmers markets that we have frequented, there's a significant markup - fortunately that really was not the case here. Aside from the produce, there were a good number of ancillary booths including those specializing in wood carving, a couple cheese makers (YES!), a sausage booth, a few jewelry spots and a number of local organizations advertising to the community- we talked with the master gardeners and they're a fun bunch! The food available here was pretty legit too. A Filipino booth boasts some incredible pork and beef skewers, there's tons of good Mexican food options and a number of other booths rotate through. We're excited to keep seeing what rotates through. In addition to this being a great market, there is incredible potential given the surrounding area. I wouldn't surprise me to see the number of food trucks continue to increase and the non-produce options continue to expand. A+!

Adeleine this past weekend when we finally came up specifically for the market. End of the day, we very much enjoyed ourselves! The Market is held downtown and takes up roughly 2 city blocks. There's a nice mix of fruit and produce, artisan crafts, and fun foods and beverages. Well the selection was good, I was surprised that there weren't more farmers up this direction. There were a few berry farms, a couple of the big ones from the Yakima Valley, but overall I think there were fewer than down at the Yakima farmers market. It definitely did not leave us wanting however. After walking the entire place a couple times, we found a couple of things we didn't know we needed, and found what was probably the best shrimp taco we've had since we got back. They also had some great coffee, a couple dessert places and a solid groups making some legit cheese dip (we got the jalapeño one!) This is a solid farmers market in an eclectic little city, that does a great job of doing exactly what you would expect from such a place. Good food, good produce, and good ancillary stuff. It's worth checking out and easy to spend a few hours at!

I'm (embarrassingly) like Forrest Gump's best-good-friend Bubba when it comes to huckleberries…read more Instead of having shrimp on the brain and talking in a "southern robot voice" about all things shrimp; I'm the same way during the 2-4 weeks a year when huckleberries are in season. "Huckleberries are the fruit of the land. There's huckleberry smoothies, huckleberry pie, huckleberry-infused vodka, huckleberry shrimp, huckleberry tarts, huckleberry muffins. You can pick 'em, eat 'em, can 'em, boil 'em, broil 'em.....That's about all you can do with huckleberries." So yeah, while I was on my way to the mountains to harvest huckleberries, I saw a sign for huckleberries at this Naches Fruit Stand (it's interesting how there half of a dozen fruit stands in this remote little town!). I ended up stopping here to get some huckleberries (fresh ones were $11/lb). I also picked up some other items of their bounty---I picked some funky peaches and pears. In addition to fruit, part of the stand has antiques for your perusal. My girlfriend spied an old timey type writer...I was slightly tempted. I could just picture myself writing my novel. I'd be all "1950's style" with an unlit cigarette dangling from my lips, a sideways-tipped fedora on my head, and a glass of Scotch next to the "carriage return lever". But I stuck to fruit on this trip.
