Compassionate Care Veterinary Services

Compassionate Care Veterinary Services

After putting one of my sweet pets down at her regular veterinary office in December, when it was…read morebecoming time to do the same for her sister, I decided to look into an at home option. Compassionate Care was recommended to me by a friend, but also my regular vet suggested her services after I mentioned looking into at home. I will say my regular vet (North Dekalb Veterinary) is fantastic. I love them, they are almost like family to me. But for this painful event, I really felt at home would be less traumatic for everyone involved. I called Dr. J at Compassionate Care and set up an initial "quality of life" exam, just to see what an in home vet visit would be like- would my cat freak out even more since someone is on her territory? Well the moment Dr. J came in and sat down on the floor with my cat and treated her with such kindness and love I knew I had found the right person. My cat reacted so well to the visit- normally after taking a car ride to the vet, the rest of that day she can be a little disconcerted. But after Dr. J left, she was right back to her normal routine, relaxing in her favorite spot. Dr. J gave me a lot of advice on what to do over the next days/weeks to make sure my cat was comfortable, and also pertinent information on how to decide when the time was right to put her down. When that day came I was so, so upset to put my baby down- there is no getting around that. But the overall experience of this with Dr. J was as good as something like this could get. It was peaceful, no scary car ride and office visit, but also the way Dr. J treated my kitty was as if it was her own. She is so caring, you can tell she really loves animals and people alike. Not only was she there for my cat in her final days, Dr. J was there for me and really helped me get through this. I just cannot say enough nice things about her services. She is patient, thorough, thoughtful, a great listener, and never made me feel like i was over reacting, and answered all my questions and concerns with accuracy and tact. If/when I am ready to take on another pet I will not only use Dr. J for end of life services, if needed, but also for at home vet services. She really is a wonderful person and Dr.

Since the previous 2 reviews described the quality of service for putting their beloved pet down, I…read morefigure I would write a review from the standpoint of the veterinary care my cats received from Dr. Jordan. I have a regular vet that I usually use (and am quite happy with their service), but my 16 year old cat always has a complete meltdown every time I put her in the carrier and take her the 3 miles to the clinic. Being that she had a condition that might be aggravated by the stress of a standard Vet visit, I tried Compassionate Care based on a recommendation from a friend that works with the Fur Kids Shelter. Dr. Jordan and an assistant (apologies for not recalling her name!), showed up to my house on time, and proceeded to give a thorough and ultimately a very helpful exam to my somewhat ailing feline (She took a look at my other cat as well). Dr. Jordan recommended a very simple course of action, and my cats are currently in a much better state! Yes, it is a bit more expensive than a standard office visit...That being said, I think the value in the convenience and care received was well worth it.

Dr. Matt Crawford is very cocky. Asked honest opinion for treatment plan. His reply "I own the…read moreplace so money isn't an issue." I feel his office is just out for money and they couldn't care less about your pets. Stay clear of this office.

I am sorry I'm having to make the time to write a negative review of a business that I have…read moresupported for probably thirty years. I chose to break from Thomaston's established veterinarian when Dr. Curtis Crawford was new to town. Three dogs later, I now travel over an hour and half (each way) to continue to support this clinic and enjoy small town service. As a rule, I do not like online review forums as they typically are unfair to businesses. Most negative online reviews seem to involve frustration over costs or value for goods or services received. As someone who spent better than $25K in just over a year for a beloved dog's care, I usually scoff at complaints involving costs. My chief displeasure with Hannah's Mill Animal Hospital is a matter of principle. I called about the prescription food my dog has been on for over five years or since he was less than a year old. I identified myself and my pet to the person that answered the phone and stated the reason for the call. In short, she indicated they did not carry the particular brand of food my dog eats; however, she offered to sell me the prescription formulaic equivalent of the brand they stock. I advised that with his very sensitive digestive system, I did not think it prudent to change foods. I also stated that the online source I typically use was out of stock. As we are running low on food, I asked if Dr. Crawford could write a prescription for the food so that I might make the purchase elsewhere. She stated that if my dog was current on his annual exam that I could receive a written prescription. She checked my dog's records and confirmed that his annual exam was not due until next month. She then asked if I received the original prescription from Dr. Crawford, and I answered, "I honestly do not remember as he has also been to an internal medicine specialist for his gastric issues." After another "check" of my dog's record, I was told he would require an exam before a prescription could be written for the food. I know for a fact Hannah's Mill Animal Hospital is listed as my dog's veterinary clinic with the online retail provider of his prescription food. I do not know if they have ever contacted Dr. Crawford's office to confirm the prescription; however, I do know that I have discussed his gastro issues and extremely low tolerance for fats with Dr. Crawford. To summarize, I was told that I could purchase prescription food directly from the clinic without an exam, but despite knowing my dog's history and being a current patient, I got a flip flop answer to my written prescription request. There is absolutely NO logic to that. If an exam is required for a prescription food, it should be required for the prescription food sold at Hannah's Mill as well. To suggest otherwise is unprincipled if not outright unethical. It appears as if there is purely a profit motive to my experience. That speaks volumes to me and should to any reader of this review. I would have expected this from an unknown veterinarian or a large metro area clinic, but not a small town practice that I have supported almost from the time it opened. Disappointing to say the least.
