After putting one of my sweet pets down at her regular veterinary office in December, when it was becoming time to do the same for her sister, I decided to look into an at home option. Compassionate Care was recommended to me by a friend, but also my regular vet suggested her services after I mentioned looking into at home. I will say my regular vet (North Dekalb Veterinary) is fantastic. I love them, they are almost like family to me. But for this painful event, I really felt at home would be less traumatic for everyone involved. I called Dr. J at Compassionate Care and set up an initial "quality of life" exam, just to see what an in home vet visit would be like- would my cat freak out even more since someone is on her territory? Well the moment Dr. J came in and sat down on the floor with my cat and treated her with such kindness and love I knew I had found the right person. My cat reacted so well to the visit- normally after taking a car ride to the vet, the rest of that day she can be a little disconcerted. But after Dr. J left, she was right back to her normal routine, relaxing in her favorite spot. Dr. J gave me a lot of advice on what to do over the next days/weeks to make sure my cat was comfortable, and also pertinent information on how to decide when the time was right to put her down. When that day came I was so, so upset to put my baby down- there is no getting around that. But the overall experience of this with Dr. J was as good as something like this could get. It was peaceful, no scary car ride and office visit, but also the way Dr. J treated my kitty was as if it was her own. She is so caring, you can tell she really loves animals and people alike. Not only was she there for my cat in her final days, Dr. J was there for me and really helped me get through this. I just cannot say enough nice things about her services. She is patient, thorough, thoughtful, a great listener, and never made me feel like i was over reacting, and answered all my questions and concerns with accuracy and tact. Since the previous 2 reviews described the quality of service for putting their beloved pet down, I figure I would write a review from the standpoint of the veterinary care my cats received from Dr. Jordan. I have a regular vet that I usually use (and am quite happy with their service), but my 16 year old cat always has a complete meltdown every time I put her in the carrier and take her the 3 miles to the clinic. Being that she had a condition that might be aggravated by the stress of a standard Vet visit, I tried Compassionate Care based on a recommendation from a friend that works with the Fur Kids Shelter. Dr. Jordan and an assistant (apologies for not recalling her name!), showed up to my house on time, and proceeded to give a thorough and ultimately a very helpful exam to my somewhat ailing feline (She took a look at my other cat as well). Dr. Jordan recommended a very simple course of action, and my cats are currently in a much better state! Doctor Jordan isn't just a great vet. She's a spectacular human being. Our 14 year old dog is not an easy patient. He's old, senile, kind of a jerk. But she loves him, and competently meets his unique medical needs. She can be a bit slow to respond to messages, but it's worth waiting for a response; Dr. J. treats each and every client like family, and will spend as much time with you as you need. *** First of all *** According to the their Invoice, the Street Address and Phone # are correct, but they are in "MONROE, GA 30655" and NOT in Forsyth 31029 (as listed on Yelp a/o 30NOV09). And they are a MOBILE Vet Service who travel throughout the Metro Atlanta Area. Secondly, they provide additional Veterinary Service besides what they performed for us but we were referred to them for this specific reason. Didn't want anyone to think this was ALL they do. Now for the Main Attraction (Drum Roll Please!)...my review: For you pet lovers out there, this will be (or has been) a painful but necessary evil for you to face. Saying goodbye to your beloved 'child'. We were faced with the excruciating decision of having to say goodbye to our (1 month shy of) 17 year old baby Doberman (Chelsea). Chelsea found us when she was about 6 weeks old, after someone abandoned her in our apartment complex. She was by far, the best thing that has ever happened to us. Yes, we are over-the-top (pathetic) dog lovers. And I know there are any more of you out there, as well as many of you rolling your eyes about now, but that's OK too. We were not going to say goodbye to our baby in a vet clinic. We wanted someone to come to our home. Knowing this day was coming soon, I had been asking some friends if they knew of anyone. I learned of Dr. Karen Jordan through three independent and trusted sources. That's how I knew she had to be good. It was Saturday afternoon that we came to finally realize it was time. Dr. Jordan arranged to come to our home the next morning (Sunday) to help us say goodbye. She was kind, compassionate and took her time with us, in no way rushing the inevitable. She spoke with us beforehand, to be sure we had made arrangements for afterward (we had arranged for cremation). We lay Chelsea in her bed, outside under some trees in our side yard, on this beautiful Sunday morning. Dr. J sat with us as we said goodbye (and cried our eyes out!). We even received a beautiful Condolences card from her later that week. Before getting into all this, I hadn't even ask how much her services would be because it was just something that was going to be done in this manner and apparently she was the perfect person to take care of us. Given the level of compassionate and caring service we received, I was anticipating a whopper of a bill. I was pleasantly surprised upon receiving the invoice. Don't get me wrong, this is not an inexpensive process but we have always had dogs and currently have two more (4-legged) 'children'.
