If you are traveling east or west on I-94 and plan on stopping in the Fargo/Moorhead area and get a good night's sleep, allow me to make a suggestion: forget Fargo/Moorhead and stop in Barnesville, Minnesota, a mere 27 miles from downtown Fargo, and stay at the Tesoro Motel. I did that. I was on my way from Idaho, was exhausted, and I couldn't find a room in Fargo/Moorhead. Being desperate, I took the Barnesville exit. I saw the motel on the east side of Front Street, behind the Tesoro station. The motel's office is the Tesoro station. I went in and spoke with two very nice young men who checked me in. I requested room 1 on the ground floor. The cost: $50, plus tax. This included a free bag of ice from the station and all the coffee you can drink. (I got coffee in the morning and found it was delicious!) I went in the room and was pleasantly surprised. The room measured about 16' x 24'; it was big! There were two queen beds, which were surprisingly comfortable. The room was clean. Though there was no wi-fi, there was a full range of channels on the TV. I lounged around for awhile, then went to the Eagle Cafe down the street. It closed early that day, so I ended up going to the Dairy Queen that was attached to the Tesoro station. The two young girls who were working cooked my chicken strips perfectly. I did go to the Eagle Cafe in the morning and was treated to a wonderful breakfast: two eggs fried just the way I like them, a slab of "real" ham, and two pancakes that were 10" in diameter and a half inch thick -- no exaggeration! Though I had to get back on the road, I really didn't want to leave Barnesville. I highly recommend the entire town. read more
