I like Barnes & Noble. I can easily spend hours at one. This one at Apache Mall, in Rochester, has my heart. I was here on a Wednesday evening. I stayed past 7 pm, which is when the mall closes daily. However, this bookstore closes daily at 8 pm. Awesome! This B&N is at the food court. You can enter the store without going through the mall. I had just finished eating dinner at the food court, so I took the mall entrance. The selection of reduced books and other items is this store's strength. I picked up a Sip by S'well bottle for $10, which is unheard of. One of their bottles that keep hot drinks hot and cold drinks cold for many hours normally goes for $20, at least. I needed one to fill up at the airport and loved the marble design that I got. I gravitated towards the Pusheen section. The plushies were adorable. I had some willpower and did not get any. There are a lot of plushies at this store, from BT21, to Harry Potter. I loved seeing them all. My favourite discovery was the music section. You can still listen to CDs here. I haven't seen that setup in a decade. I loved looking at the records (vinyl) and turntables. I was so happy. This store is huge. It has a full cafe with seating. I enjoyed my time browsing. I had to figure out where to pay. The payment area by the mall was unstaffed. There was an information desk smack in the middle of the store. Nearby was the second payment area. I had the nicest woman at the checkout. She found my name in the system after she got my phone number. If you sign up for a B&N membership, you get 15% off everything. I tend to shop here often that this membership has paid for itself and more. She placed my water bottle in a plastic bag and wished me a nice evening. I reciprocated and left the store, heading to my car through the mall. I love this store in my old stomping ground. I will definitely return and maybe stay a bit longer than an hour next time. This barnes and noble is bigger than most One-story ones are. Lots of choices for magazines, books, records, and lots more!! Even little coffee shop that sells Starbucks products. Although, something i do have to complain about is there was a sketchy van parked out in the front. Just made it a little hard. Also, they didn't have posters. read more

This is a well stocked Barnes and Noble. Everyone was super friendly. Within 5 minutes of being in the store I was asked if I needed help. Either because I looked confused or more likely because they are just super nice and on it:) I ordered my coffee and sat down. The coffee was exactly like I like it. The baristas aren't rookies. This store is full of friendly helpful staff. The gal at the service desk tonight took time to personally show me where the book I was looking for was and without me asking also showed me where to find other books in the same series and made sure I didn't have any other questions or need any other help. I've never had a hard time finding fun books to give as gifts, the boyfriend really likes their magazine selection, and my son loves that the kids section has much more than just books. Its easy to spend a chunk of time browsing this store - even without purchasing anything. read more

As far as B&N go, this one is alright. It's definitely big, which I appreciate, but I found prices that were 20% less on the same book at Target. Their selection of clearance items on this particular visit was very vast. I didn't find anything I needed, but it was good to see. My mom found a really good book in the spanish section that she couldn't live without, but that was our only purchase of the day. And if you knew me and bookstores, you would know this is rare!! read more

Sometimes I think the success of a book signing has to do with the cooperation of the bookstore. Here they treated me and author Michelle Kubitz like royalty. We were set up at the mall entrance and coffee shop, so we could catch the traffic. They ordered a few and I sold the rest out of my stash. She is a local author and they had a huge sign with her name prominently displayed. Mine was listed also, as the editor, but she was the star that day. She is one of 15 authors in the new foodie anthology, Cooked to Death Vol. II: Lying on a Plate. My husband was able to find a comfortable spot to take pictures. Steve, the manager was very thorough and attentive. We were one of the first in a series of bringing in local authors to this location. And I have to admit, it was better than the cities. They did an overhead announcement of our book three times. I was very impressed and in a great mood on the ride home. Lots of people came around and it was pretty exciting. read more

Really having trouble here over the past few months after trying to support for years. The issue is it is almost impossible to pay for things when you are ready to go. One register will be open only and even though the line is long there is no help coming. The staff congregate around the center of the store and actually can be quite loud telling each other what to do or training. It just shouldn't take me 15 minutes to buy a magazine. Open up a register or two more when the line is long. The manager needs to tell the new employees to take 5 steps closer to her then they can talk instead of raising voices. As B & N's go, this one's pretty good. It's located right off the food court in the Mall and also has an outside entrance. The place has a large selection of books and magazines, as well as CDs and DVDs. They've also got a coffee shop and some comfy chairs to read in. This location is pretty well kept up and the people are good. My main complaint (with all B & N's) is the prices. They sell DVDs for $25 or $30 and books are all at MSRP. Infact, the only reason I actually go to this store is to look at a book I might want to buy (then buy it on Amazon) or to use up the gift card I got for some occasion. M There used to be a place in town called Walden Books (right next to Krispy Kreme). This place had some AWESOME deals on books. Too bad they went under. read more

This place is great. I'm a library reader so I don't buy books anymore. However, it's great for browsing. They have a huge children's section and my toddler loves to grab a book and sit and start reading right there. They also do reading time which we haven't done yet. They have lots of toys and a small play area. We love to spend mommy daughter time there nerding out. read more

I love books and browsing for books, Barnes and noble is great for that. I like both stores in Rochester, the one downtown is really cool because it used to be a theater. This one is nice because its in the mall so you can shop for clothes then take a break and get a Starbucks and pick up a book or magazine. read more

Went here today to get some coffee and read a magazine, but the coffee line took way too long, that was a bit annoying. It was a nice break in the day. I caught up on the latest news in Time and skimmed through Sports Illustrated. Then I went over to the music department and listened to some new tunes. Didn't buy anything today though. I love cool and interesting places. If you love to read or like to buy books, this Barnes and Noble is a really cool place to be. I believe this used to be an old theatre and they turned it into Barnes and Noble and when you walk in, the inside is huge...probably one of the biggest barnes and nobles I've ever seen. The interior is pretty awesome with old vintage light fixtures, as well, as the top level looks like a great place to find a cozy corner to read. I want to say the ceiling and walls were decorated in a whimsical night sky of some sorts and it was really neat to see. It would probably be nice to take your kids there to find a book or something, I think they would love it! Fun place to be and I feel like you could spend hours there just reading. read more

Poor experience. I've definitely experienced better customer service. The manager, Jennifer, was rude and unhelpful. When I explained to her my question, her response was "what do you want me to do?" which is never ever a way to answer a customer who is kindly asking a real question. I was not rude to her and nothing warranted her rudeness. read more
