The winter has lasted way too long so I am always searching for a reasonable outing to accommodate my little. This location has a small, children's section that my son loves. The variety of books are great and the Lego table entertains him. I personally love how they feature books, which has helped me discover authors and books that I had not yet been exposed to. I haven't been in a bookstore in FOREVER so it's quite possible that I'm just easy to please because this location pretty much won me over upon walking in. This is a much smaller bookstore than Barnes & Noble used to have in this complex but it's new and inviting. Plus, it smells like books and pretty much nothing is better than that. I visited this location to pick up a book I ordered online. I suspect I was in and out in less than 3 minutes. I'll be back soon to see what they have on the shelves. read more

I love visiting a bookstore and I've always been a Barnes & Noble fan, but this store is definitely one of the smaller locations I've been to. I went in looking for a play by Chekhov, which I expected them to have (I worked at Barnes & Noble stores when I was in high school and college, and Chekhov was a pretty standard playwright for the drama section), but they had a few Shakespeare plays and one or two other plays and that was it (no Chekhov). It's a fine bookstore (still larger than most independent bookstores), but one of the smallest Barnes & Nobles I've visited (there are other larger locations in the Baltimore area if you're looking for a store to browse). read more

I visited the Pikesville Barnes & Noble location on Saturday to take advantage of the highly anticipated Criterion Collection sale. After nearly 30 minutes of browsing and narrowing down my wish list I decided upon two different DVD titles. Very happy with my selection, I arrived home to find myself in a completely different mood. The first DVD was perfect. Upon opening the second DVD, I noticed that the paper and plastic of the cover/ case was ripped and cut up fairly severely. My mood dropped further when I opened the case and saw that the plastic of the actual case was busted and cracked. Without a worry or second thought, I returned to the location the next day to swap the damaged item for a new one. I was very quickly shut down with a response best summed up as, "Sorry, you should have checked it before buying it. Most people do." I was told there were no other copies of the title I had purchased. My options were: 1.) Order a new copy and wait for it to be shipped in 2.) 10% off due to damage 3.) Suck it up, Buttercup Not really the level of service I had expected from a company like Barnes & Noble. Really, 10% is not a comparable compensation for the damage of the product. Maybe I'm crazy, but realistically the offer to exchange the item for a different title of equal value should have been an option. I have had nothing but great experiences at this location in the past. I guess that's what is so upsetting. As far as the damaged item, there was not really any signs that it was imperfect while it was sealed in its' plastic wrap. I can understand "checking" a product before purchasing it, like a book or magazine (something that can be skimmed through for possible defects). But something sealed in packaging? A bit harder to "check". While this damaged item may not be any employees' fault; May not be the store's fault. I do expect a certain amount of quality from a company like Barnes & Noble. I've never even had the thought of checking an item before purchasing it before. That's how highly I thought of this company. For a company who presents themselves in such a high manor, I at least expected the decency of a replacement or exchange for a mistake on someone else's part. End of the day, I'll still return to this location as it's the only one near me that offers a selection of Criterion titles, but believe me... I'll definitely be inspecting every nook and cranny of future possible purchases. Ps. The reason physically media stores are closing at alarming rates, is because when it comes to customer service in situations like these, Amazon kicks your ass. All I can say is thank for still being in business and creating a spot where I can get some quiet time and work remotely. The cafe and book selections are awesome. I throughly enjoy the small perks of having a B&N membership and the strong WiFi. This BN has a fairly large and clean interior and is convenient to major roads. Healthy number of people for New Year's Day so it didn't fe quiet or desolate. There is an in-house café, which isn't uncommon, a good selection of new releases, and both a bargain books section (consisting of mostly special interest books, self-help guides, puzzles/games, and historical fiction hardcovers) toward the front of the store and a 50% off clearance section (Christmas stuff, summer totes, games, bobble heads) in the back of the store. There's the oft-seen Buy 2 Get 1 Free table, which has a number of good options. The store is adequately staffed with employees on the floor but had only one open front cash register for a long queue of customers. Still, the line went by quickly. I didn't see much in the way of armchairs and other seating for reading, but at least one man was sprawled on the floor in the comic books aisle reading and charging his cell phone via an outlet on a load-bearing pillar. The parking lot is large and has adequate parking spots. read more

I think Barnes and Noble needs to decide if it wants to be a bookstore or some other business. The number of books carried in the stores is less and less. It is rare that I find what I am looking for. The clerks always say they can order it for me. I can do that myself and not have wasted time shopping in the store. It is sad to see this decline. I just walked out of this Barnes & Noble. I waited in the record department for 10 minutes, no clerk. You can't leave the area w/ a record, you have to buy it in the record department. So I set off the security alarms 3 times to alert employees I was trying to spend money at their business. No reply. So I waited. I have taken my friend's daughter here a couple of times and she loves it. This is a family oriented bookstore with a cool reading area for children, as well as a lounge for adults. Whenever I tell her that we are going to the bookstore she gets so excited. The bathroom is decent. The service is great. All of my Questions are always answered in a professional and friendly manner. There's nothing like the smell of a new car or book! I highly recommend this branch of Barnes & Noble. read more

I'm guilty of buying gifts online but there's something to be said about visiting a store and talking with it's employees. Within 3 minutes of getting there, I had someone come up to me and offer to help and find the children's books I was searching for. She offered a variety of suggestions and was quite helpful. I then wandered over to the adult section just to look and was again approached by another employee to help. Plus the cashier was so nice and friendly! I had a great experience and made me appreciate buying things in person so much more, especially this time of year! read more

We visited this store yesterday and really liked it. Firstly; the person at the cash register was very pleasant & helpful, and he turned out to be the manager. Secondly, the young woman working in the café (where I got a venti frappuccino) was *very* friendly. Also, the store is a good size and it's exceptionally attractive. I didn't have much time to browse, but I look forward to returning. (Update on 7/14/14): We visited the store two days ago and I discovered that their photography & art book section is *pathetic*. Normally I'd downgrade to four stars, but the personnel are terrific (the young man working in the café yesterday [where my husband got a grande caramel frappuccino] was really friendly) and the store has a very pleasant atmosphere. (Update on 9/2/15): I called the store early this morning to have a book put on hold for me and the woman I spoke to was *very* friendly. Also; this store is open until *11:00* p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. (Update on 11/26/16): We spent a lot of time there early this afternoon and all of the personnel were as friendly as ever. Just another Barnes & Noble to me. Endless books, most genres available. The kids have their section to read and play. If you can't find a book the people at the customer service desk will be more than happy to help you find it. If they don't have it they can order it for you. The cafe has interesting treats and little sandwiches. I think that have a sandwich and soup combo for lunch too. Stop by and see what they are offering. This Barnes & Noble always seems to be relatively quiet whenever I go. This one does have a music section, if you're into buying music. The café is usually what I go Barnes & Noble for, to sit down and use the wi-fi and get some work done. I have a Barnes & Noble members card which "saves" me 10% on café purchases, and if you come here often enough I think I recommend it. As far as seating goes, this Barnes & Noble is probably at about the 40th percentile in terms of number of seats, however, It's typically not hard to find a seat as it can be at other ones. This B&N is notable for not having any seats near outlets. In fact I think I saw some wall-thingies that used to be outlets, but they have been rendered unusable by not being you know, not being there. So if you come here planning on doing electricity-requiring work, come here with a full charge. read more

I love shopping at Barnes and Noble but my biggest gripe about the company in a nutshell is the membership and trying to find someone to help you. Now I don't mind paying a few bucks a year for a membership but $25 dollars a year and I only shop there maybe six times a year and only save like 10% on products. I can see if the membership was maybe $15 a year and save 10% take a page out of GameStop book and offer an extra incentive each month maybe a free cup of coffee or maybe 15% instead of 10% off. It could be because of the pandemic but it's hard to find someone to help you find a book. I waited at the stall for almost 10 minutes before I went to the front to ask for help ever since they got rid of those computer kiosk that you can use to find what you are looking for that was much better but of course the pandemic. read more

The staff at this store never fails to meet or exceed great service levels. This is a large store, and I went in for the first time in months - they who store has a new footprint. A manager actually walked me around and gave me a layout of what was where and how to navigate about. I found what I was looking for, and two other items. The cashiers were wonderful with the customers in front of me and when it was my turn they were just as helpful. And the store was neat as a pin. read more

I come here often to purchase books, gifts, and visit Starbucks. Their Starbucks actually stays open later than all the others in the area which is nice. They have a great selection of magazines and a pretty large children's section. I've always found what I've been looking for. Staff are very friendly and helpful. In regards to the yelpers complaining about outlets, that's kind of a ridiculous complaint. It's a coffee shop. Not a free electrical charging station. I'm sure their first instinct in building a cafe where you EAT and DRINK was to focus on enough outlets for people sitting there so long they "need" to charge their devices. I've been coming to this Barnes & Noble for as long as I lived in Baltimore, and I returned on a recent trip to pick up one or two books for the trip back home. The store is your typical B&N establishment, with plenty of books, magazines, and other materials across a variety of genres. Staff is always friendly and helpful. In particular, I recommend checking out the bargain section towards the front - there are always a number of decent books at very good discounted prices to be found. read more

Barnes & nobles is one of my favorite ways to decompress. I like to get a hot drink, browse through books, spend too much money... I also take my kids to play with the train set and look through the toys and books, they love it. They also have a great clearence section a couple times a year. However, this location is a busy one. There is usually not much sitting space available. They also do not have any arm chairs or nice sitting area. It is basically just the tables by the cafe. This is my closest b&n so I will keep coming here but I do wish they would revamp their seating area. read more

I spend a ridiculous amount of money at this place. I come here at least a few times a month and am never disappointed. The staff is always really friendly in helping me find stuff (which is good, considering they don't have the computers most other places have to look things up yourself... which is why I didn't give them 5 stars). The Barnes and Noble cafe is also really good. I swear they make the best Starbucks Pumpkin Spice frappuccino (another reason I've been coming so frequently lately) and with my Barnes and Noble membership card, I get 10% off everything at the cafe as well. They have more food than a typical Starbucks would have, with fresh sandwiches and soups, stuffed pretzels (yummm) and lots of really delicious baked goods. This isn't as large as the one in Ellicott City, but it's still pretty big and I never have trouble with not being able to find stuff here. read more

The Starbucks in Barnes and Noble needs to get better counter help was there at 4pm today and encountered a clerk with an additude surprise surprise! Now a days you are lucky if there is any customer service anywhere. After I placed my order which was obviously a problem she put my change on the counter instead of handing it to me and then went to make my drinks and never washed hands before preparing my order it was obvious that she never washes her hands and at this point I decided not to say anything but to just not return. I am done excepting bad service as the norm, if I'm not happy I am 86ing them off my list of places to go read more

Stood in line for 30 minutes then told to go to customer service, who then told me to go to the music department (no employee) in department. Then went back to customer service with the item I needed to exchange. They then told me to go back up front since they needed a cash register. Went back up front, waited in line and finally checked out where (wait for it) no cash register was needed. I come to this Barnes and Noble ALL the time! Last time I was there, I was looking for three books for my Honors English class and as I was wandering around an employee came up to me and asked if I needed help! He efficiently and quickly found the books down to the exact edition I needed! I frequently have conversations with the employees about their recommendations on new books, and the café staff is also super welcoming and friendly! They have the best green tea and I couldn't decide what to order one day so I asked a barista if they could surprise me with a special drink, and he made an unique drink that is one of my favorites to order now! They have an extensive selection of music as well. If you ask any employee to help you they will in an instant! Plus, it is also a great place to study or read. One day I wasn't sure which book to get so I asked a lady that was also perusing the section I was in for a recommendation and I bought what she had said. It was so good I spent five hours in the café reading because I couldn't put it down! Overall, I love this Barnes and Noble because of its incredible staff, atmosphere, service, selection and the wonderful crowd it attracts! You can catch me in there at least once a week! read more

The cafe has really gone down hill. Most of the pastries are half-stale and the coffee is BLEH! Nothing is more disappointing than a luke-warm, bitter, weak cup of coffee claiming to be Starbucks' robust brand! My last 3-4 trips here have sealed the deal for me--time for me to find a new coffee shop to spend my hard earned money. Spoke with management about the weak, barely warm coffee (and how it is becoming a staple), and did I even get a fresh cup? A voucher? Anything?! No. I've been a frequent-flier since this store opened many, many moons ago. Different crew, different crowd...I'll take my consistent business where it is appreciated! So long folks! I tried and tried out of long-term loyalty, but tonight was the FINAL STRAW! I miss Candace so very much! I am just writing this review to give a shout out to Meagan. I recently, upgraded my Nook to the Samsung Tab 4, that was a huge mistake but I digress. Once I get this Samsung home I find that my books that I had on my Nook Color did not sync with the Samsung because obviously for some strange reason my e-mail address did not match my B&N account. After numerous calls to B&N they said if I could get the old serial number off the old Nook (which I traded in) that they may be able to help me get my library back. Meagan came to the rescue. She searched for and found the serial number. Thanks Meagan for you excellent customer service. Although I will never shop at B&N again due to this debacle Meagan went above and beyond. read more

Personally, I LOVE the fact that there are limited outlets in the cafe because it discourages people (like students) from showing up in big study groups and hogging tables for hours on end with their laptops. The atmosphere is much more chill then other Barnes & Nobles in the area, making it a nice place to (gasp) read! read more
