Today I received absolutely wonderful service from Christina, so good it prompted me to leave a review. I was in the store for about 45 minutes, and during that time I heard her managing both the front and back of the store with genuine care and a smile. I also watched her assist a repeat customer who was a bit challenging and she handled it with patience, respect, and warmth the entire time. I often stop in here while waiting for printing at Staples next door. The book prices are a bit higher than places like Target, Amazon, or Walmart, however this store is consistently well organized and clean. They always have popular bestsellers and book club picks displayed right when you walk in. As an avid Booktok reader, I really appreciate this. The Last Chance section and the reader knick-knacks by the register are always fun to browse and are usually a great value. read more

I had a brunch date with my daughters at this Barnes and Noble recently and it's a very nice location. The store is very big and well kept. The cafe was very spacious and clean. Great service and everyone I spoke to was friendly and engaging. There was a limited selection but was able to find what I was looking for. I like this Barnes and Noble the best. It's in a convenient location and it's a nice place for reading it studying. This was preferred over the main Ohio State bookstore because it wasn't as crowded and loud. It has a great selection of books and there is some music. There is a cafe with coffee and smoothies. I like most bookstores, and the less corporate they are the better. It means Barnes and Noble isn't my preferred bookstore. There is a lot of books here though, and it's good to come to if you hate to sort through stacks of who knows what in independent stores. It's good for finding newer books, which are more costly anywhere. This is not as good for older books, which you can find much cheaper in many other stores. It's a nice store for sitting and looking through stuff before you buy it. There's usually some cutting edge hipster kind of shit being played there. It's either really interesting or really irritating. The staff could be a little more helpful. It's like they're zoned out most of the time and annoyed when awakened. The staff in the cafe is pretty good though. I recommend this Barnes and Noble over many of the other locations. It has a great selection of books and many magazines. It was a dark, rainy, dreary, cold evening around 6pm and I was craving a good book and a hot chai. I went to the Graceland Target and bought a book and I went to the Starbucks in Clintonville, which used to be a bank for a hot chai tea latte. There was zero parking and I wasn't about to try to wait around in that horrendous weather! I left. I remembered this location of B&N and decided to head over and was happy I did! It's in a plaza so parking is easy. The Starbucks inside was nice. It wasn't crowded, but there were people there. I overheard a job interview, a Spanish tutor, and there were one or two university students studying. It was pleasant. I didn't feel out-of-place sitting at a table reading while drinking a chai. I ended up being there for hours. No one bothered me and it was quiet most of the time. The chai was delicious. No complaints about service or my beverage. I will come again! read more

Because I need an excuse to get more books.... I found out about Barnes & Noble's Signed Editions on Black Friday for the first time this year. I couldn't resist going to see what was on hand. I decided to head to the location at the Lennox since I thought the crowds might be better with the students home for break. The selection was good, with books, music, a nice kids section in the back, and more. Keep in mind that there's another kid's bargain area in the kid section itself, and not just isolated up front in the bargain section near the registers. The staff were very amazing despite a daunting day... the cashier who rang me out was extremely fun and friendly. We shared some reading interests and took advantage of the lack of line and my huge pile to be checked out to chat about what we've read, what we're reading, and what's next! It was great, and parking was so easy in front of the store. I love bookstores. I have been hibernating in bookstores/libraries since I was a little kid. There is something just so peaceful in being surrounded by so many intriguing books, games, and music. I really hope bookstores don't go out completely. In general, barnes and nobles are pretty solid. Possibly not the best prices, but mostly standard. I prefer the ones that have a used book section -- which this one does not. I wouldn't usually write a review for a BN; however, I had some of the worst customer service in this store than in any of my experiences in Columbus. I went to the "help" desk and waited awhile for someone to come over. An unfriendly woman came over, and I told her I knew the last name of the author and several key words, but didn't have the exact title. This woman could not have been more annoyed and after several minutes of feeling like the worst human being ever for not knowing these things I asked her to just input what I said in Google (as I know I searched for this book in this manner before and it was the first thing that came up). She rudely stated she would not and when I said "I guess I'll buy off Amazon like the rest of the world" she did not seem to care. I was starved -- and still really wanted this book -- so I stopped in the cafe. There were 2 stuffed pretzels in the glass container, so I asked what the difference was between the two. The barista man snapped "read the labels" to which I replied "I would, but there are none." No apology! I then called a friend, had him google the exact thing I asked the first lady, and the book title came up. I went and waited for another service person who found BN didn't even have the book anymore. I was going to buy a game as well while I was there, but opted not to give them any money and went to Target. read more

To me, a perfect winter afternoon is going to the bookstore, picking out a book, and sitting in a café drinking coffee and reading. And that's just what I did on my last visit. I like this Barnes and Noble, but not enough to give it four stars. I'd give it 3.5 if that were an option. I like that this store is busy; there are always people here shopping, hopefully meaning it will stay in business. I like that this store has a coffee shop, so I can indulge in my ritual. I like the selection of books this location offers - especially the bargain deals! I have impulse-bought too many of those to count. And let's not talk about their classics series... I like the big windows, which let in plenty of natural light. I don't like the layout. It feels too rigid and square with lots of wasted space. Some nice aisles and organization are essential, but this store could use a little reorganization. I don't like the prices, because they seem a little higher than I'd expect. I went in to check out their VINYL selection that they are so proudly advertising. It was kind of sad and pricey. They are offering 10% off to members, but even with that discount, their prices are easily $5 - $10 more than other record stores. I saw a Led Zeppelin box set there for $179 that Spoonful Records was selling $85. Other box sets were $10 - $30 more than you can find at the local record stores. Many of the vinyl records had torn shrink or bent corners. The displays are awkward and the selection is super spotty. They are selling a new Bernstein conducts Gershwin "American in Paris" for $30, whereas you can find a near mint copy of that at Spoonful or Lost Weekend for $5. A new Herb Albert "Whipped Cream" will cost $25 at B&N, but elsewhere a nice used copy is $1-5. it just doesn't make sense why people would buy vinyl here. The deals are at the local record stores. To highlight their misunderstanding of the current vinyl market, they are selling Crosley turntables and Audio Technica wireless bluetooth turntables. A) CROSLEY TURNTABLES ARE THE WORST AND THEY WILL RUIN YOUR RECORDS, AND MAKE PERFECTLY GOOD RECORDS SKIP AND SOUND TERRIBLE. B) Audio Technica is a great brand and makes a quality turntable, but the bluetooth wireless makes it "digital." The great thing about vinyl is that it that analog sound. When you transmit that sound digitally, you negate the awesome warmth & clarity. We are lucky in Columbus to have a whole bunch of amazing record stores, but B&N is not one of them! This would be a one star review on the vinyl selection, but I'm giving it two stars because A) coffee, B) nice magazine selection, and C) books have never let me down. read more

Went here this afternoon to find a book to give my mother as a Christmas present. I couldn't find it on the shelves, so I went to the information desk. There was no one there, but after a minute a gentleman walked up to the booth, speaking to a customer on a cordless phone. After a minute, he told them to hold on and said to me, "do you need something?". I dumbfoundedly asked for the book I was looking for. He quickly responded, "I'm sure we have it here somewhere.". The look I gave him would have killed a Kodiak grizzly bear. I could not believe that he was talking to me like this. After noting my unhappiness with his response, he said, "hold on, let me find someone else.". I said, "don't bother, I can tell you're very busy and very frustrated." What a jerk. I've shopped here many times in the short time I've lived in Columbus. Never again will I deal with this chain, and everyone I know will hear this story, I can assure you. read more

I STILL LOVE real BOOKS!! It pains me to write this review.... I love Barnes and Noble, I really do, but this location is lacking in oh so many ways!! For all the reasons the other book stores of other brands have gone out of business, is why you shopped and enjoyed B&N.... however, this location has now become just like all those places that went out of business.... No one to help you, horrible selection, no customer service (because there is no one to help you), and long lines at the register, because they only have ONE of them open. The obvious problem here is the staffing, or lack of it!! There is rarely anyone at the customer service counter, only ever one person at the checkout, and its hard to find anyone out on the floor. Mind you, not all locations are like this one, I do still enjoy other locations, but this one is in need of some serious help!!! read more

A flat but not ugly space in the Lennox center, this B&N still supplies a good number of titles yet less than they once did. It also has a nice cafe area, the second best B&N cafe after Easton. It is a great place to hang out, study, or just chill if you are a student. Just remember to bring a backup battery as they only have one outlet. It is the Starbucks brand--and it was the place I first experimented with cappuccino back in the day. I like the long wall of magazines. They carry most of the popular periodicals from SI too Psychology Today. This is what I come here for. The CD selection is in decline. They also have done away with chair that once were spread around allowing you to give book a quick try. Of course they are trying to push Nooks which they are way to late for in the age of IPads and other tablets, it really not a deal when you can get that and more with other devices out there. The staff here is hit or miss. They can be helpful, but they also make rude reviews slamming customers. But in all, this is still a decent place to pick up a drink or a rag while waiting for a movie. For books though, you can get better prices at Half Price Books. read more

I love books. I love reading them, writing them, touching them and smelling them, yes, smelling them as I LOVE the smell of paper, I will buy perfume based on whether or not it has a dry papery smell. Ok, add weird to creepy as one of my traits. I love bookstores. But not any bookstore. I am a bookstore snob. it has to smell right, look right and have the proper amount of ambience and feel; Elliot Bay bookstore in Seattle comes to mind, or even The Book Loft right here in Cbus. B&N is what it is. A multi-purpose, top 40s bookstore that serves the OSU demographic. It is a little too corporate for me, I prefer Borders or Book Loft, and when you add Starbucks to that it makes it even less inviting. I come here when I need a nursing publication or a pocket pharmacopia or a quick gift for my grandsons. I don't patronize Starbucks so I don't linger. I will say, though, the booksellers know their books and can order just about anything you need. They do have paperback classics for a great price, so there isn't an excuse not to read great literature. You will find all the best sellers here also. But as far as a comforting place to linger in the stacks on a rainy fall afternoon (or any other time), this is not it, but, if it is a quick trip for a needed item, this will suffice. read more

I hate this store. They have the worst return policy and the worst prices of any retailer. Example, no returns without a receipt...period. Even if it was a Christmas gift still wrapped in the original cellophane. Price example: CD of Andrea Bocelli: Concerto, One Night in Central Park $18.99. Amazon's price 11.88. Stop BURNING your money by shopping at this store. You can find absolutely everything for less money online or at a different bookstore. Even with a 10% discount with their crappy membership you are still not getting a good deal. Every time I have to go in there, I leave so upset and amazed that they are still in business. read more

Popped in here on a Monday night after class while waiting for the boy's flight to land. There were a good number of people reading and studying in the cafe, although this one, like the Easton BN, has very few power outlets, and most people were not using laptops. The wifi took a while to connect, and remained wobbly throughout. The area was well lit; some of the tables towards the back were a little too close for comfortable conversation. I had a passion iced tea which was only "meh." A passable place to study, but definitely not on the top of my list. read more

This is primarily a review of the coffee shop area. I thought it would make a great place to study, but I was distracted by how filthy the place was. The tables were clearly not getting wiped off although between the two employees there they definitely had time to do it. And the floor looked like it doesn't really get cleaned at all, certainly not well. It's a different look when someone has made a mess on a clean floor and when a floor just isn't getting cleaned well or often enough. This was the second. The windows have these nice bench spaces under them but unfortunately they are covered in crumbs and dead bugs. I bet I could go there today and see the same dead bee. Incentivize the employees to take more responsibility or give them more structure for carrying out cleaning tasks. Assign the roles and times when the tasks need to be done. I've worked in coffee shops and they way it should be is that when you have a second you get your sani-pail and a couple rags and go wipe down the tables or sweep. I know it's a large area and you're bored and sad, but if you do it a couple times per shift and then a decent job getting around the edges at close, your seating area could be presentable. I tried to order a textbook online at bn.com without success. I called the store and got transferred around, sent to the university operator and then disconnected. I called again a few minutes later, got a person by not pressing any numbers, got transferred three times and then disconnected. I finally called lennox and they are helping me order it but have to call me back...oh...just found it for 1/2 price on amazon. read more

This location has never been what I expected when walking into this chain's stores. Polaris location is better in my opinion, can never find anyone to help me.
