I went in looking for a new book but didn't see it there. Staff helped me order the book and in less than a week it arrived. They called me and gave a generous two weeks to come pick in up. I'm a sucker for hardcopies. I actually want to hold the book I'm reading in my hand. No kindle for me. While I should probably get a library card, when it comes to books by my favorite authors, I prefer to add them to my bookshelf permanently. I've known about this book store for a while, but I'm never in the area and I have another one a block away from where I live. That being said, I was nearby, and wanted a coffee so I swung through Kitties. That's when I realized Gramercy Books was connected by a shared wall. I love it! I browsed around, fell deep into their nice selection of plant focused books, then hunted out my favorite authors because I've been in need of a great book that I know I'll love right off the bat. That's when Kurt Vonnegut and Malcolm Gladwell come into play. Lucky for me I hadn't come across Malcolm's newest book yet and they had it. That was a must, as I have almost every other book he's written. I go back and forth on Vonnegut, non-fiction is an awesome way to escape. Being that he's from the midwest (Indy to be exact), a lot of his writings are based in the area which is fun. I was directed to the section he was in by a wonderfully helpful staff member. They had several of his writings I don't already have so I swiped one of those up too. If you're like me and prefer the OG way of diving into a good book, this book store is a lovely choice. My friend and I took a day trip to Columbus to check out bookstores and this was our first stop. It is a picturesque indie bookstore and I loved it. I was surprised to see they offer some books at a discount, which was a nice bonus. We didn't go to the cafe, but there is one attached. They also have a large, awesome section of childrens books with a lot of matching stuffed animals. Overall a lovely bookshop. read more

Cute little bookstore right next to Kittie's! My friends and I browsed a bit in here after drinking coffee next door. It's attached and you can walk right in through. We didn't buy anything, but enjoyed looking at which books were on display and the journals. Not sure how prices are like in here, because I didn't make a purchase. Any book store with a KNOWLEDGABLE staff of pleasant bookkeepers is a key attribute I look for when looking "local", and Gramercy Book Store is a perfect fit to the neighborhood! I much prefer chatting with the staff for their personal recommendations on books. Here, I was able to mention the general genres I like, and the two ladies were more than happy to recommend. Sure, I can spend hours of happiness looking thru stacks on stacks of books, in search of the golden ticket, or I can go straight to the best source, and get their take. After narrowing down their recommendations for books that touch on worldly culture, travel, and socio-economical societies around the world, I settled on Pachinko by Min Jin Lee. I always get giddy when I come across any locally owned, independent book store, as the workers always have a unique perspective on the world and all the books out their (unlike the boring B&N, where everything they know is based ONLY on what can be found via their website). I'm not gonna lie, I'm a bit jealous that Bexley has their own quaint bookstore. But, it's in such a cute neighborhood town setting, which makes Gramercy so appealing! Owner Linda and her staff really have it going and moving in the right direction. I have shopped this well curated bookstore in the past and always found books of interest and a willing staff to direct me in the right direction. Tonight I went to an event promoting a new book that was supported by a great group of musicians; a great compliment to the book that was highlighted. I don't buy new books often (I'm a library gal), but was happy to find two books I wanted to read and will take with me on vacation soon. When I checked out, I was offered their rewards program. You can give your phone # at the register when making a purchase. Also, I am now on the mailing list for store events. I was happy to spend a few minutes here and I liked their book displays. Great bookstore located downtown Bexley off Main next to Kittie's Cake. What brought me here was my friend and author who raved about this bookstore. I checked it out many times with my friends but today I really just felt like getting something because they had so many cool things besides just books. I got a cute notepad to write important tasks down for each day of the week, or more like honey you need to do this notepad. I also got a cute pair of soft socks for $10. Each socks have a theme like Muggles like good books or women are rock stars. I liked the theme of the socks so I got a pair. I will need to come back soon since I truly like to support local book stores. I need a good book for my upcoming vacation in August. Any recommendations are highly appreciated! Gramercy Books is awesome! We are super lucky here in Bexley to get the only locally-owned bookstore to open in Cbus in the last decade. The store is so cute, and it's everything I want it to be. In today's Amazon and big-box world, I think curation is a coveted skill when it comes to books. I want to go to a place where experts have curated the collection -- no more hunting for needles in a haystack. And I'm happy to report Gramercy is the real deal and run by real deal book people. They've been in the business forever, and it shows. They have a great selection of local authors, cookbooks, poetry, children's books, and more. The staff is all super helpful, and I think the prices are fair. I also love that Kittie's Cakes is the official coffeeshop for the bookstore! Such a huge win for both businesses. read more

I accidentally found this last time I went to the new Kittie's. Today we went back there to meet a friend, and finally explored Gramercy too. It is exactly what you would hope a small bookstore in Bexley would be: classy, full of interesting books, and a little expensive. We wandered around oohing and aahing over the displays. Lots of local books, a good variety of subjects in general, plus a children's room tucked behind Kittie's. Baby K loved it, and the place and people are very kid-friendly. We got out with just a few things, but could easily have gotten a dozen more. Prices are slightly high, but aren't books worth it? read more

I love bookstores. Of course there are not many today, but when one opens--a rare occurrence--I'll make a special trip just to check it out. Gramercy is a small shop off Main and Cassidy by the irresistible Kittie's cake--where the two share a passage. It is pretty small, about 50-paces will make a lap, and there is not much of a selection beyond a small collection in each section-though don't let it discourage you; if you are looking for a popular title they have it. But it is a shop for new books, not used, not collectors; think a small Little Professors. The children's book add-on is larger comparably to the other, so this might be a good place for young readers to come. They have a cozy seating area to the side with wooden chairs and a table where you can hangout and read to your heart delight. (Don't abuse it.) Let's call this a low 4-star. The prices are MSRP. I'd rate them three, for their size and lack of volume (walking is a close combat situation when the store is busy,) but it is such a cute shop and would make a nice time waster or place to order a title if I lived in the area. If you need a popular book and live around Capital Uni make a visit. Amazon can't replace getting out in the world, and you never know who you'll meet shopping out. We can't let technology ruin public places. read more

My answer to the phrase "When I'm not yelping..." is reading. I read constantly and love it when I get to shop for other readers too. When I realized we would finally be venturing into Bexley territory, I immediately added a visit to Gramercy to the list, because I just love a cute little bookshop. This delivered on all counts. First, I just had to walk around and appreciate the books, because that's how I roll. They used their space so well, with all of the little nooks and corners one could desire to check out books and related items, like book themed socks, bookmarks, and other nice gifty supplements. The kids section was adorable and packed full of not only books, but plenty of book-related activities. I was delighted to see the Usborne Magic Painting books and immediately grabbed one for a gift. They had all of the books on my gift shopping list, and I ended up with more, which is how I know this was a most successful visit. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They offer a frequent visitor program. There's also a shared wall with an opening directly into Kitties, so obviously I went straight over when I got my big old bag of books. I especially appreciated not having to go outside to get there with my books since it was raining pretty steadily during my visit. I would love to visit again! read more

One of the nicest independent bookstores in the nation. What a jewel! The facility itself is spotless. So inviting! The staff is extremely attentive and accommodating. Very nice folks. I cannot say enough about the staff at Gramercy books. I was shown such kindness and respect from everyone. I recently attended the Temple Grandin talk at Bexley high school. Prior to going I called to investigate accessibility because I am currently on a knee scooter but wanted to be able to attend the talk. In my career I was so touched by Temple Grandin. As an educator she opened our eyes to what children with autism are capable of. As educators she really helped us understand all children. Strategies that we put in place for children with autism also help some of our other children with anxiety concerns and behavior concerns that made learning a challenge for them.As an educator I am forever grateful and indebted to her for helping us to be better. When I first called the bookstore the staff were unable to answer my questions about accessibility at the high school. Within an hour of my call to them they called me back letting me know exactly what I could expect and where I might sit that would allow me to have my scooter near me. A seat was set aside so that I could enjoy this talk. When I arrived I was greeted not just once but three different times by people who were aware that I would be there and needed a special seat. I was so grateful. Thank you for your assistance in making this even more wonderful day for me. One of the staff that came to greet me was the Superintendent of Bexley Schools. I was not familiar with him as I am a resident of Dublin. But I think you for being so kind. I have been meaning to get my bibliophile butt to Gramercy since it opened nearly two years ago. Finally, this past Memorial Day, I did precisely that and it was all that I hoped. This is a reader's bookstore - clearly conceived by booklovers, for booklovers. Once I found out the management and ownership team included John Gaylord and Debra Boggs, both of long-time Little Professor Bookstore tenure, this high quality made complete sense. These people KNOW literature, they know books, they know the publishing industry and the distinct changes wrought upon it by the establishment and takeover of Amazon (back when it was just Amazon Books). I am elated that Columbus finally again has a true independent, locally-owned, front-list title bookstore and I will gladly make the trip clear to the other side of town to patronize it regularly. The store is compact, which suits its small-town/big-city feel and is a perfect addition to the Bexley community. When you're working with a smaller retail space, how items are selected and merchandished becomes crucially important; Gramercy excels in this regard and then some. An avid reader since I was a kid, I found the selections here, especially in the literature, poetry, and children's areas, to be extremely well-chosen. The stock is a great blend of standard, time-worn texts that appear on every school reading list each year, new fiction and non-fiction titles which are always in demand in a retail bookstore, as well as carefully chosen works that may be slightly off the beaten path or weren't New York Times bestsellers but which hold tremendously rich, gorgeously-told stories. This combination is what makes Gramercy a reader's oasis. The sideline items present in the store are also very well-curated; a great blend of fun, classy, and quirky puzzles and games, stationary, book accessories and other items can be found throughout and enhance, rather than detract from, Gramercy's focus on readers and the reading experience. Attaching the bookstore to the fantastic Kittie's Cafe (the second location from local baking mavens Mollie and Kelly Fankhauser) was a stroke of pure genius. This is the bookstore-cafe combo I remember from my youth, updated with a distinctly modern, low-key feel. The high-quality, delectable offerings from Kittie's are a perfect complement to the laid-back yet classy vibe of Gramercy and I could easily see spending the vast majority of an afternoon ensconced on Kittie's patio while devouring my latest purchase from the bookstore and consuming copious caffeinated beverages. Whether long-time Columbus resident like me or new to the awesome, ever-expanding capital city, Gramercy Books (and a stop at Kittie's!) are not to be missed. I absolutely love this book store! It is a perfect addition to Bexley. This little book store is the perfect addition to Bexley. They may be small but they are not short on a nice selection of reading materials for your perusing. I was very impressed with the nice selection of local history and interest books some of which I have never seen before. They also have a great selection of magazines available. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The best thing about this store may be the activities that they hold. I love that they always have the best sellers marked at 20% off and they have a point system that allows you to save if you buy so many books. One day when I was on the city bus with an intention to go somewhere else, I saw this business in the quaint little suburb of Bexley Ohio, right across from the library (shrewd marketing ploy wouldn't you say? ) I was very surprised to see that there are still brick and mortar book stores around. The staff is very knowledgeable and courteous and if they do not have a book that you are looking for they will offer to find it for you, but let me tell you for a small store it sure has a big selection, oh yes and copy too!! If you're old fashioned like me and still love the feel and smell of a new book and then you have to give this place a try. Remember knowledge is power!! Peace out brothers and sisters!! read more
