We can second the comments of KH (3/30/13). Our house was completed the end of 2012. The experience with B&P was very slow and very painful. We felt their work took 6 months too long. We were never charmed, but we did not expect Mr. Pfeiffer to be quite so difficult to deal with. He belittled his junior architect in front of us, and argued against simple green concepts we had read about. Like KH, we believe Mr. Pfeiffer's green credentials are outdated, as he constantly referred to his personal experience with first generation solar 20+ years ago. Our last meeting, like our first, was a challenge. Mr. Barley was responsive to design requests, but even at the end the junior architect asked--after we repeatedly had expressed the fact--"do you just not like wood?" HELLO! Maybe this was the same architect "let go" from KH's project. We also had design measurement errors, resulting in a whole wall of shelves being pulled out and redone. Mr. Pfeiffer refused to acknowledge their mistake, and forced the builder to eat the cost. We had a poor engineering survey done by a firm B&P strongly recommended, which resulted in a major delay, added survey work and cost, no of which Mr. Pfeiffer would accept any responsibility for.
Beware of B&P contracts. We made the mistake of going with the "comprehensive" package, which we feel was way overpriced for the service received. They made only 4 on site visits, and their "oversight" was more trouble than it was worth. Beware further that their concept of construction cost, being % based, seeks to include every appliance, door knob etc. It seems ludicrous they should charge us more for their fee if we choose Viking appliances instead of Kenmore.
We will conclude that we are happy with the house, especially because, like KH, we had a very good builder. There are many B&P design features we appreciate. The ethics of percent based charges, especially when they include things having absolutely nothing to do with their work, we strongly question. The green credentials of Mr. Pfeiffer we are dubious about at this time. Most importantly, we feel their treatment of colleagues and customers is extremely out of date. This is no longer an age for prima donnas. It is a time for collaboration, to achieve a satisfied client. Their facebook testimonials are highly selective. Our house is not included in their list on their website, probably because they know our thoughts. read more
