I spoke to several others in the area and Johnathan was the ONLY one to give me a straight and honest response about my case. He did not give me false hope by telling me I would get everything I asked for. He instead was realistic with me and he is extremely responsive! If I have any sort of issue he responds to my email so quickly and I know that is not the case for most family attorneys. We are still in the process of getting everything ready so I will update how it goes during hearings etc... but so far he's the right guy for the job. When I asked my original attorney about the three people I interviewed he hands down told me Mr. Marks was the way to go and he wouldn't drain my account like the other ones and he is very good at what he does. He is higher per hour than the others but I am perfectly willing to pay for an amazing attorney. He is well worth the money I will be spendings as time goes on.

I think there are decent people here who may have indecent personal matters going on, but those were never disclosed to me and forced me into a financially untenable legal position. Withdrawing a day before he told me--and before the trial was complete--is client betrayal and unacceptable.

As a law librarian, I have worked with lawyers and law professors for my entire career, so am admittedly a tough customer. He carefully reviewed my out-of-state documents and recommended some changes to create a an enforceable instrument that would save my executor and beneficiaries both time and money. He took the time to ask numerous questions to insure that my wishes were accurately reflected in the legalese. Finally, he charged only about a third of what a Clayton or downtown lawyer would have and provided a higher level of service than my previous lawyer. He could not have been kinder, and he treated me like i was the only client he had that day, though that was hardly the case. Based on that recommendation, I paid Eric another $4,200 in total to handle two cases. Nearly five years later, I am still repeatedly going to court over an old case involving approximately $34 worth of merchandise from Walmart. I provided documentation of treatment, 90 days of NA meetings, a theft-awareness program, and three negative hair-follicle tests. Despite paying thousands of dollars, I still don't know what meaningful motions, investigation, defenses, or negotiations have actually been pursued on my behalf. To my knowledge, the State provided the discovery without counsel having to pursue it. Now I am being told the State wants the maximum sentence while an open plea to the judge is being discussed. I understand that attorneys cannot guarantee results. My complaint is about the representation I personally experienced: poor communication, little explanation of what was being done, and very little visible advocacy for the money I paid.
