Went in there looking for the receptionist for an appointment and no one was at the counter so I decided to use the bathroom to find someone banging on the door asking what I was doing I said I was using the restroom before I could get another word in she told me to leave and they don't offer bathrooms to just anyone who walks in. BEWARE OF DISCOUNT GROOMERS: We really wanted to leave a 5 start review. Our dog looks great, and the price was phenomenal(more on this later). Our golden had a good amount of mats. We knew this. She got her beautiful hair cut, and looked great. Almost instantly, after we got home, it was clear that she was uncomfortable; licking her groin area constantly, which she has never done. She struggled to go to the bathroom. 3 days later, we took her to our vet. The vet stated that it appeared that her hair in the sanitary area may have been cut with clippers, and the clippers likely irritated and or scratched her. Think of a razor burn. We called the groomer, moreso to ask them to leave a note. We enjoyed the staff on Saturday, and again, the cost was far less than we'd found elsewhere(). The associate who spoke with my wife told her "my groomer told me she noticed the redness and irritation on Saturday, and that they informed you of this. THIS DID NOT HAPPEN. My wife and I picked her up together, and we were told NOTHING. In the background, my wife could hear the manager, piping in her their $0.02 on this. Most managers would have likely said "here, maybe I should speak with them." Not here! We were not asking for any money back. We were not asking for a free cut next time. We wanted them to know what had happened, to ensure we avoid any future issues. There was zero accountability or ownership of the issue. There was also zero apology for the LACK OF COMMUNICATION when we picked her up; "well, she told me she mentioned it to you". We will not be taking our dog back. We were looking for a good groomer, who cares about their clients. It is clear that Barking Mad simply cares about being "right" and saving face, rather than acknowledge the fact that we were not told this when we picked her up. It's very likely that we were not told this because they knew it was their fault, and again...they care about $ and saving face. read more

As someone with a family who owns small dogs that constantly need grooming, I can tell you not all grooming places are created equal. My grandmother usually goes to Petsmart or Petco to get them groomed and that's how we met Sharon. She was one of the only people that could groom our cocker spaniel Abby who often gets cranky while being trimmed. So when Sharon branched out to start get own business, we followed. Sharon is awesome; she treats our dogs like they are her own! We had called Petco to see if they could fit her in and ended up having to call again (because they never got back to us!) and they wanted to charge us for things they don't do anyway (teeth brushing and the nails they just had trimmed, with them I might add, 2 weeks ago!). I no longer go here. I had been taking my dog for nail trims, which they did a great job. I walked in one day and the owner (not sure of her name) did not see me come in, and all I heard in the back was YELLING and CURSING at a dog she was grooming. I could not believe the things she was saying to this poor dog! This dog was already scared and she was only making it worst by screaming at him a the top of her lungs. If you are a groomer i would expect you to have some patience and know how to handle a scared animal. It made me feel so uneasy and I will never go back. I would be very weary about leaving your dog here for grooming. If it's a simple nail trim, that's your call, but I decided I didn't want any of my money going into this person's pocket. read more

First time used and it was a good experience. Small dogs groomed with a nail trim for $60, plus $5 additional per dog to buff the nails. They looked and smelled great, and were happy from the groom. You can't miss the big sign on Dekalb just down from the train station, but watch for the traffic while construction is ongoing. read more

I've been having dogs groomed for 35 years never ever had this bad of an experience. My pup was in a crate for 4 hours wet as they didn't use a dryer said he was afraid of it, guess that's why he smelled so bad when I picked him up. I had to give him a bath to get rid of the smell. Told me he was completely matted, no he was not they were just in a hurry to get him done since I called after 4 hours and ask how much longer and was told they hadn't started. A very negative experience, won't be returning and have told several friends now as well to take their business elsewhere. I heard such great reviews about this place, but of course these were from people who just loved the finished product- as they didn't know what went on behind closed doors. I picked my pup up and due to where the door is vs the window placement to the back grooming area, no one had seen me come in. I heard yelling, belittlement and pure nastiness coming from the back. My stomach had every kind of knot begin to form and I prayed please do not let that be my pup. Oh but it was.... it took everything in me not to jump into panic mode. I glared into the back, and funny the tune then changed oh so quick with Beth " awww great job; okay just a little more to go". (I can see right through you lady) My pup was crying, began to bark and wasn't herself at all. Perhaps going forward when a dog is clearly in pain, you will stop what you're doing and thoroughly assess the issue, as you shouldn't want such pain to continue on.... oh but being a grooming salon owner- you should be smart enough to know this, right? Won't be returning ever again, I think you have a lot to learn, and the fact that my dog was being hurt and you were beyond mean to her with what you were saying/ continuing to hurt her- I would love to see your salon lose more business. Being in this type of industry I would expect someone like you to have compassion and patience. Great spot. A little difficult to find, my gps told me I was there in the middle of a bridge, but they were able to give me easy directions when I called. My labradoodle gets so anxious about being groomed that I get very anxious about having to take her, but the staff at Barking Mad put us both at ease. I recently moved and was looking for a groomer closer to home. I am very particular about the care my fur baby receives and he was a regular at a great grooming salon in Philadelphia where he's been going for years. I am not a fan of chain stores (Petco, Petsmart) for grooming so I searched on Yelp for some local grooming salons and decided based on the reviews to try Barking Mad. I was very pleased with the service my dog received. Scheduling an appointment was very easy and they seemed to try and accommodate a time that worked for me. I made my appointment with Sharon who was very friendly and discussed in detail what I wanted to have done and any concerns. The time on service was comparable to the time it normally takes for him to be groomed. When I picked him he looked great and even had an Eagles ascot which was a nice touch. The service was good and the price reasonable. I will definitely recommend this salon for your pet needs. My only concern was it was pretty difficult to find at night and the entrance was through a dark lot which left me a bit uneasy but I just pulled right up to the steps and ran in and ran right back and jumped in my car. read more

I have used the nail clipping service for my dog and one of my cats and am very satisfied with the service. In fact I used to take my cat to the vet for a nail clip and I usually had to take her back in 4 - 6 wks. to have her nails trimmed again. The woman at Barking did a great and seemingly better job.
