It is always wonderful to know your pup is welcomed when you walk through the door to drop them off at daycare. I had a lot of errands to run and didn't my pup to be left home all day. Plus, it is the highlight of his day to go to doggy daycare! He absolutely loves it!! He know the route we take to get there and as soon as he gets close, he starts whining with excitement ! As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with smiles and Milo goes running leaps and bounds to get to her ! She immediately loves on him and gets him ready to go play with his friends. Each time I pickup my dog from boarding he is covered in urine. Even after calling ahead to have them check on him to give them a chance to clean him up, they still brought him out soaked in his own pee. I waited for an hour for them to bath and dry him, but they never called back. I will take my business elsewhere and would recommend that you avoid them for boarding. read more

Took my German Shepard Husky mix in for the first time today for a bath and deshedding treatment. Overall her coat looks a lot better, but I did NOT receive a phone call for when she was done. Her appointment was at 12:30, and i called at 5 to check in on her, and the receptionist said, "oh ugh yeah she's been done and we have her in a room." When I got there, i asked what time she got done, and the receptionist said they went back there at 3:00 and saw that she was done so they don't know if she was done earlier or at 3:00. So it led me to believe that they kind of forgot about her. read more

Update Review: It pains me to update Barkfellars with a lower rating. We have boarded our dog twice after our initial post. Both visits were great except this time was different. We boarded our dog over the Christmas holiday. I tried to plan ahead because I assumed it would be a peak time. The reservation and drop off were fine until it came to pick up. We picked up our dog around 8:00 am. When we picked up our dog he smelled horrible and had poop stuck on his behind (sorry for the graphic details). Why? We had to wash him immediately when we got home. Also once it was time to pay the front desk worker quoted a price that didn't sound right. *I asked at checkin how much we would owe, understanding it was an estimate. The prices weren't the same. They charged more for Christmas Day which I understand, but tell me that upfront. Also there is a fee (basically accident/medical coverage) for the time your pet is boarded. Again I was not aware! My suggestion-detail list of estimated charges at checkin or reservation to avoid surprises or miscommunication. read more

Such a GREAT place! I've been taking my dog here for a year. He's spent a total of a month at the place a week, a week there. He has so much fun there that when he gets home, he's depressed for a day missing all the fun. He's also plumb tuckered out from playing so much. Their grooming is also quite good. Prior to taking him to obedience school here, it was hard to get him to mind. After 1 week of school, he is such a well behaved dog. I wouldn't recommend this place. I dropped off my baby, a 6lb yorkie poo for the July 4th holiday because I had to fly home for an emergency. I thought I could trust the care they give at Barkefeller's south. I was severely disappointed when I returned to pick him up. he stayed from Tuesday evening to Sunday morning. When they brought my dog out he was wet around the paws. When I asked why he was wet they said he had been splashing in his water bowl. I thought that was unlikely but was willing to blow it off until I reached for him and at an arm's length the strong odor of pee hit me. Livid is an understatement. I was told he was taken out to potty three times a day and on top of that I PAID FOR TWO ADDITIONAL playtimes since none are included with the lodging stay. So, by my count that's no less than 5 staff interactions per day. I can't think of a good reason why my dog should be wet and smelling of pee. How long was he in those conditions? Does the staff not check on the pets? Are they selling complete lies? I later called to speak to a manager, she was understanding and apologetic but failed to offer a course of action that I believed would prevent this from happening again. Dear Fur Baby Parents, Unfortunately, this is not a good review as I'm sure you see by the one star. I have a standard poodle named Teddy that we brought here a few weeks ago with some issues happening after our visit. To start off, I'll say that I was very nervous to leave my baby with someone I didn't know but this location came recommended by many so I definitely cided to give them a shot! Teddy stayed here for 3 days staying over night 2 nights. We got him the best package with play time and scheduled to have him groomed before we picked him up. Overall, the stay went well aside from one potty accident being diarrhea which I saw on the cameras that was never brought to my attention until I said something. Upon bringing Teddy home we have had some issues and are still currently having issues. Teddy came home and immediately had water type diarrhea with a pretty large amount of blood in it. That scared us but we had medicine on hand to stop diarrhea and gave him some, within 2 days his bowels were back to normal but this was never brought to our attention. Secondly, about 9 days after picking Teddy up we started to see signs of an ear infection. Which Barkefellers has this "5 day policy" on if any issues pop up which I was aware of but I called them anyways. Mainly being because we never go more than 2 weeks usually less to clean his ears. I spoke with Krista several times and thought she was going to help me, but all she did was waste my time and give me the runaround. She said they could make an exception to this rule if it all made sense. So I did as she asked by taking him to the vet and sending her a photo of the invoice right after the visit expecting there to be a good outcome. But then she needed to talk to my vet and it just so happened my vet was on vacation until yesterday, so I waited nearly a week for her to talk to the vet which we already discussed she wouldn't be able to pinpoint exactly where this ear infection came from but the vet did specifically say that it take 7-10 days for an ear infection to take place. This is right in the window of when we left Barkefellers, depending on someone else to take care of our baby and make sure his ears were cleaned right. I even talked to the groomer before the grooming letting her know to clean and pluck his ears so that they were easier for us to clean in the coming month. Well, after sending the invoice, waiting a week and her talking to the vet I got a call today saying they aren't going to cover it because it was outside that 5 day window and because the vet couldn't tell her where specially it came from. Didn't we already cover that before I went and did all this? So now I've paid $140 to take Teddy to the vet to try and get ride of this ear infection. The infection is still active and we have done everything to get rid of it. I have to take him back in a few days to do a follow up and that's another $60 or more if he needs more medication. Which I already know the infection isn't gone because my poor baby won't leave his ear along. They covered NOTHING, not one penny! I am not the type of person to leave negative reviews, but if you care about your pet and don't want to fit the bill if something happens to them, then don't take them here. Best of luck! read more

Beware and read the fine print! This place needs to train their staff on communication! First time visitor. When I made the reservation they said to bring my dogs shot records. (No problem) When we arrived to drop him off on our way out of town for a family trip they informed me that they require the flu vaccine, which is not a standard vaccination the vets give. So we drove all the way back to our vet for a Saturday morning walk in to get another shot. Then when I picked him up and got the bill I learned that if you pick up after noon they charge another night! Nice to learn that once my credit card is out. read more

Unfortunately, my dog had a poor experience. My feedback is limited to two elements of the poor experience. My dog was booked in the Presidential Suite. He did not receive ANY individual play time and/or potty walks as listed on their website for the Presidential Suite. Of course, he had a potty accident in his suite area (access to outside was closed due to weather temp). I learned a valuable lesson: ask the boarding facility how long the dog will remain in the kennel before access to potty. If the time spans from before they close at night until the next morning, ~ ten hours +/- an hour or two, my dog can't "hold it" that long....it is stressful for dogs who are not encouraged to relieve themselves in a crate/living space. Maybe, the bathing service for an additional fee before going home has something to do with the facility washing away the smell of urine/feces the dog can't avoid because they were in a kennel much longer than is recommended by any vet, humane society, rescue, et.al. ... Albeit, my dog did not receive a bath, only wiped down by the groomer so I was not charged, he should have had plenty of potty walks/exercise to have avoided this in the first place! VERY disappointed! read more

I was extremely nervous to board my dog somewhere overnight for the first time, but after doing some research and checking out facilities in person, I decided to trust Barkefellers with my pup. I was able to check in on my pup via webcam, and also by phone if I wanted to call in. They took extremely good care of him - he was taken out a lot and for a good amount of time, they made his little suite cozy with the bed and blanket I brought, they fed him out of their hand as needed just so he would eat, and if they needed to enhance food they made sure to ask me first. At the end of the stay, they sent me home with a report card. In addition, I asked for him to be groomed the last day and he was fresh and clean when it was time for him to be picked up; he even had a cute little bandana on! Overall, I am extremely satisfied with everything. read more

Took my five month old puppy today to try them out after another bad experience at another groomers. I thought it wouldn't be a good idea after seeing and hearing how many dogs they had today and thinking they would be rushed but I was wrong. They treated my puppy as if she was the only dog that mattered during her grooming and she looked, felt and most importantly smelled amazing. Grooming was $45 but it was so worth it. I. Love. Barkefellers. It may be my favorite place ever. We have to be very careful when saying "doggie daycare" in front of our dog, Henry, because he'll go crazy, running from door to door, he's so excited. As soon as we get in the car, he starts whining, and he usually whines when we pick him up and drive him home too. Day play can a bit pricey, so we don't take him every week -- but it's well worth the $22 when we do. Henry gets to play with other dogs of his size and personality, and he comes home exhausted. Barkefellers offers play and groom specials, and sometimes offers 35% off discounts if grooming students do the work. They have administered bordatella shots for us when he's been due and can usually squeeze in a quick nail trim when we drop him off for day play too. We've been pleased with all of those services. Just a few tips for you -- If you board your dog and include day play the next day, make sure you stress that your dog needs to be checked out by 12 pm the day of and that the dog can stay for day play the rest of the day. If you don't check your dog out, and even if he/she stays to play and doesn't actually go back in the suite, you'll get charged for that extra night's stay. This is actually my only annoyance with Barkefellers. My second tip, if you board your dog, is to truly think about his/her personality when booking the room. For the first few overnight stays, we booked our dog the most expensive suite -- the largest one with a fancy dog bed, a tv, a video camera so we could check in on him, etc. For our dog, this was a waste. While we enjoyed looking in on him, we found that he was so exhausted from day play that he didn't really need the extra space. He refused to sleep on the fancy bed, preferring the hard floor instead, and didn't pay any attention to the tv. After that, we've gotten him the basic suite that saves us some money, and he knows no different. read more

He was very aggressive towards us when we picked him up and noticed when we got him home that his neck was covered in blood from puncture marks. He almost died from not being able to eat. After not being able to eat or drink for 4 days he came around to soft foods but it took a long time for him to overcome his fear of males. We received a call from the groomer there a few hours before we picked him up, letting us know that he didn't like getting his nails clipped. NO mention of strangling him and puncturing his throat! I really love the day care, it's so nice to drop your dog off and let them play and play! What's so great is you get an awesome "report" card so you know what your doggy was doing all day!!! I have enjoyed the two baths my dog has gotten there. They have an oatmeal shampoo for doggies with dry skin. I have been to the Barkefellers in Greenwood and on the Northside and I have had a great experience both times. They are one of the few AFFORDABLE places to get cats groomed as most places on groom dogs. They were so sweet to my little darling cat both times we have gone. The receptionist, Shelby, was very helpful during the reservation process and kept me informed of anything I may need to know. My little guy did get cut on his first trip. :( He has an extra pad on his foot and it was nicked while they were shaving his fur. They applied ointment and when I came to pick him up they explained what had happened. The groomer and other staff were very obviously concerned about his well-being and apologized profusely. He didn't look upset, scared, or hurt upon pick up. 5 stars! read more

i feel it is important to share. my family & i went away for a week for vacation. we boarded our two beloved dogs with Barkefellers - Indy South like we always have in the past. we booked two separate full run suites & two separate day care/ play dates because they do not get along well with each other in situations outside of our family. they have never been mean to other dogs or people. we have warned Barkefellers multiple times that they cannot be together. my husband received a call on Monday letting us know that one of their employees put them together mistakenly & one of the dogs bit the other one on the face. they had to take her to the vet & shave her face & give her stitches for her wounds. they put her on antibiotics & pain medicine. although they called us, it literally put a damper on the vacation & our family worried about our dogs the whole time. you would think you could trust professionals to do their job correctly & without incident. when we went to pick them up, i expressed how upset i was with the mishandling of their duties. i was referred to the owner, who's comment to me was, " well accidents do happen" & that you couldn't even see the puncture wounds. when in fact it was extremely obvious & significant. (see attached photos) not to mentions the dogs were filthy & had feces all over their behinds. extremely unacceptable care & lack of concern. we felt that due to all of their mistakes & subpar care, we should be given a complementary stay. manager was very curt & argumentative. needless to say we were still charged half price in order to get our dogs back. once we got our dogs home we could tell they were extremely traumatized from whatever had happened over the last week. i will NEVER EVER use Barkafellers again. please share to get the word out. read more

We used to take our dog here for daycare a lot when we lived on this side of town, but were told she can't come back unless I call ahead and make sure there are enough dogs because she's too big for the small dogs and not big enough for medium. I was annoyed that this was their only response so stopped going for a while, but our usual boarding location was full one weekend so we took her here for boarding. They seem to take good care of the dogs, but the folks answering the phones and handling the reservations seem fairly absent-minded. I asked for 3 nights of boarding and to let her play with other dogs for the 2 days she was there. They had my old address so we updated that on the phone. When I picked her up, I was told she got a private play session (and nobody appeared to know if she even had her temperament test re-done like they promised when I dropped her off) so she never got to socialize while she was there -- again, like I asked for. And they *still* had my old address and contact information, so I guess it's a good thing they didn't need anything while I was gone. Seem like good people, but just absent minded I suppose. All in all, I wasn't impressed with the experience. read more

I had my dog groomed today for the second time at Barkefellers in Greenwood. He is a cockapoo, and does not require any fancy breed-specific cut. Things that I specifically asked for, I did not get. I asked that his muzzle be trimmed short with no schnauzer-like mustache or beard, as he tends to plunge his face into his water bowl and dribble water everywhere. His muzzle came back very long, and looks like it has barely been touched. Not much was done with his top knot or ears either. (I did ask that the hair in his ear canals be plucked out, and that was done pretty well, but the rest of the hair on his ears is pretty much the same as it was when I took him in.) His head now looks huge in comparison to his pretty closely cut body. He does have a pretty curly coat, but my previous groomer (who was forced to close permanently due to COVID pressures), did a thorough fluff dry that straightened his coat out for a more even cut overall. Nothing like that was done today. I would not go so far as to say the grooming was bad, but it is certainly not what I had hoped for. The price is pretty high, and you're asked to tip the groomer prior to even seeing the work that was done, so that added to my frustration. The facility is nice, and I was hopeful for a good experience, but I doubt I will be returning for the grooming services at Barkefellers. read more

These people are great, we board our dog there and he always is alive when we come back. The people there seem to love dogs and treat them so well. They have indoor/outdoor boarding kenels or even kenels with televisions. The do a variety of things with your dog including cuddle time play time and walk time. I think this place does a great job. I think anyone heading out of town should take their dogs to Barkefellers. read more

Really mad, called them to make reservations for the dogs and explained about my one dog who is an American bulldog, I said she can be aggressive at home but that is her home so she would be different in a setting outside of home, she could be skittish and potentially mean. They said it was fine, they were used to dogs like that, called them again a month later to make sure and they said the same thing, brought her in yesterday so she could see the place and to be familiar with it, she toured the place and she was acting fine even wagging her tail at times, she was not aggressive at all, in fact she sniffed the trainer and let her pet her and they said sorry we can't watch her 27 days from our Disney trip, I was so mad and still am, it's funny too because they said she might be too mean but touring the place saw dogs in cages with red signs saying manager only and they seemed more vicious than my dog, thankfully we found another place after calling a bunch, I will never recommend them, we have always used arbor lane but they were booked, and I will always recommend arbor lane to everyone. read more

We have boarded our boxer/aussie mix, Bo, with Barkefellers-South multiple times now and we've taken advantage of daycare a few times outside of boarding as well. He loves going!!! Mr. ADHD pup, gets very excited as soon as pull up. He always comes home exhausted whether it's from daycare, just one night or a multi-day stay. I'm a bit of nut when it comes to him and really like the option of getting a room for him with a webcam in it so I check in. Love this feature!! (And as much as the family mocks me for it - so do they!). The rate structure has recently changed and I think it's for the better based on what I paid for the same room and similar add-ons a year. I can now get all my "extras" when I board in one convenient and reasonably priced package! Yes, I lament at spending as much or more for a full week of boarding as I do for one night of a hotel, but I've asked around and I don't feel like I'm being fleeced. Beyond that - I trust them and that is worth a lot to me!!! When we got our dog year and a half ago, we knew we would have to pay to board him for the type of vacations we take and the soccer travel we have to do. Bo has also been groomed here and while he doesn't require anything special, I've always been happy with the results. Bo isn't a frequent guest, but I love that you can tell the dogs who are. The ladies at the front desk know the dogs by name and the dogs are dying to get to them. That tells you something right there! I highly recommend Barkefellers! read more

Would highly advise looking at other options in the area. They not only forgot to feed our dogs, but refused to take any responsibility for not feeding them.
