Absolutely incredible!…read more Dr. Gary Newman was wonderful. I was referred to him because routine testing showed positive. He immediately set my mind at ease. The procedure was over in minutes and totally comfortable. He made sure I felt good before I left, both physically and mentally. They just don't come any better.

I spoke to a receptionist on 4/5 and was told I'd receive a call back within a few days to schedule a routine procedure. It's 4/19 and I haven't heard from them. They never called so I started attempting to call them last week. I called on 4/15. I sat on hold for over 45 minutes (47 to be exact). I couldn't hold anymore so I hung up. On 4/15 I tried again and sat on hold for 52 minutes. Again, I hung up. Simply to speak to a receptionist to make an appointment for a procedure. You can't make an appointment any other way for the procedure I need. No option on MyChart. I'm on hold AGAIN right now...37 minutes. Edit: wow...after holding for 42 minutes, a phone started to ring and I got excited thinking that finally someone was going to answer. Nope, it rang 6 times, placed back on hold. What is going on at that office??? This is infuriating. Edit again: they returned my call the next day (today 4/21) and I couldn't answer as I was at work. Then they sent a letter to My Chart, they've tried to reach me, they care about my health. To reach out to them at the same # that they don't answer the phone at. I'm done with these people and already have a referral to a different gastroenterologist. Edit 4/26/26: I decided to make one last attempt to call them on 4/21, right after I posted the above edit and was able to get through after holding for 26 minutes. The person I spoke to said that there is some sort of issue with their phone system and that they have no way of knowing how long someone has been on hold before they answer the call. She transferred me to someone else in order to do a pre-procedure screening. That person explained to me that they had no procedure availability at Lankenau until July, if I wanted to schedule with Riddle, I could be seen before July. As I've already waited weeks at this point because of the lack of a return phone call weeks ago and all of my unsuccessful attempts to reach them, I opted for Riddle. I explained to the person at Lankenau that I could only pick up my phone after 3:30. Explained my frustration with their phone situation. She told me that she'd forward my information on to Riddle and would request that they call me on Weds 4/22 3:30-4. I watched my phone for that call on Weds 4/22. No call. On Friday 4/24 at 9:04AM, my phone rang with a call from Lankenau I was at work but answered the call. The person from Lankenau was calling to do the same pre-procedure screening that I was told on 4/21 that Riddle would be calling me to do. I explained to her that I spoke to someone at Lankenau on Tuesday who said they'd forward my info to Riddle, that I'd receive a call from Riddle but that call never came. She apologized, said she was going to reach out to Riddle when we got off the phone and she'd ask them to call me on that day, Fri 4/24 after 3:30. NO PHONE CALL FROM RIDDLE AS PROMISED. Today is 4/26, Sunday. Why is it IMPOSSIBLE to schedule a very common/simple procedure?? They don't answer the phones and when they reach out to you with a letter in MyChart, they ask you to call back the exact same # which leaves one on hold for ridiculous amounts of time. I'll call Riddle tomorrow and if I can't get this resolved, I'm going elsewhere. I took the time to write this review with the hope that Lankenau does something to correct this issue. I can see the other reviews and I see that I'm not the only one experiencing this. The other reviews were written months ago so if there truly is an issue with their phone system, they've had ample time for time to correct it. God forbid someone has a serious issue such as cancer and they can't even reach their provider. I see the response above about contacting a patient advocate...why should someone have to do that over such a simple issue of phones not being answered and outgoing calls not being made as promised?

Now here we are 5 weeks out, and still nothing, not even a phone call from them. The number they give you is a call center and they have no information. Whoa!! What's with these bad reviews??? I had a screening today and I arrived bright and early at 6:45 am. The staff was AMAZING!!! Everyone from the front desk, the nurse ugh I'm so sorry I have forgotten her name but she was brunette and was working 12/21 early morning, sweet Emily, the attending nurse anesthesiologist, Dr Basile, and Dr Rock who handled my screening. The first person I encountered was a kind lady who guided me through the paperwork which they've really simplified. Another man was reporting to work and he was jovial and welcomed us too with a big friendly hello. He had a pony tail and I didn't encounter him after that during my visit. There is so much positive energy in the center it's bouncing off the walls and the staff is top notch and I do mean everyone. No room for negativity! I was scared to death because this was my first colonoscopy. Everyone was so kind, especially Vicki she was so reassuring to me and I really needed that. She was a kind friendly warm face who reassured me and I was thankful. The hardest part was being apprehensive about the procedure. Once I was wheeled into the endoscopy suite I fell asleep and it was all over. I woke up thinking I was at home. I was discharged quickly after. I was surprised at how fast I was on my way home. My only complaint was the coffee lol! It could strip paint of the walls . Hey though your health is what they're concerned with and not a vanilla cappa latte "bull shit" drink - in the words of the fabulous Larry David. Please give this worthy group a try if you need your screening. Get your screening it could SAVE YOUR LIFE!! You're WORTH IT!! This group is saving lives every day!! My husband has had several drs at the same group and we are highly pleased. Still time to get your screening before 12/31! Maybe- if there are appointments available. Good Luck and Godspeed. You have to be your own health care advocate.

Little can be done to make the preparation and actual event more palatable, but at least it can be simplified and made more humane with understanding of the emotional aspects of the test, and the physical challenges associated with drinking copious amounts of vile tasting fluids, a mandatory clear liquid diet for 36 hours before the operation, and the totally unpleasant process of emptying the lower gastrointestinal tract. Ugh! Gastroenterology Group at St. Mary Medical Center does it as well as possible. They invite you to their office weeks in advance to review the process in detail. Many pages of easy to understand instructions are provided. They record insurance information, and even offer samples of the preparation meds if the patient lacks coverage for this cost. On the designated day, when the effect of starvation and voiding is at max effect, their staff is courteous and compassionate in getting the patient ready for general anesthesia and the procedure itself. Everyone was skilled, patient and trained in low key interaction. From getting into those damn surgical gowns, to setting the intravenous lines in the arm, to nestling the pillow comfortably under the head/neck as you fall asleep, to the gentle wake up back in your personal space with juice and crackers, the flow is smooth and relaxed. That Dr. Barash advised I would likely have to return in five years for another scope almost seemed an afterthought.
