They've now changed their name, but if you're smart you'll stay away from the shoddy business practice I encountered here. The owner(?) Rob and I spoke on the phone and he told me one price. I paid the first and last month of that quoted price by card then. The next day he sent me an agreement that stated an almost 1,000 fee would be charged as well. When i discussed this with him he stated the fee would not be charged, but he sent me another agreement with the same fee listed in it. At that time I declined membership and asked for a refund. I've never stepped foot in the building and didn't feel comfortable doing so at that point because I felt lied to and like we had started on a bad foot due to Rob asking me to put my credit card back on file and me declining. I felt like he was frustrated with me at that point so I felt uncomfortable. read more

I have not used it and i am being charged for a membership. Amazing how he feels this is a good way to do business. I am a victim. I requested a refund as I have not even had an opportunity to utilize their services, yet I am still being charged. Quick rundown: Fun, challenging workouts. Great community. Slow walk-up: I had attended a few group (pack) workouts with specials or Yelp events. I enjoyed them very much but the cost of the gym was just too much for me. And honestly, it still is. But I got sucked in by a sponsored Facebook ad for a free 6-week coaching course that included workouts at BAREfit. Color me intrigued. I won't say much about the coaching program because...well, I hated it. It was NOT "free" and there were many things I hated about it. But the workouts at BAREfit...turns out, I well and truly love those! So at the end of the 6-week program, I had the option to either do another six weeks for no extra cost (no thank you) or I could transfer my credit to the gym to continue workouts. YES PLEASE to that. So with my credit transferred over, I got about 2ish months of unlimited classes before my money runs out (I think...I don't know for sure because the program coach/owner never sent me any specific information about when it runs out...). I am 1.5 months in to that and I still freaking love the classes! The trainers are all wonderful, knowledgeable and happy to provide modifications up or down to any move you are doing, and encouraging. They are eager to show you any move you aren't familiar with, and give you tips to better perform them during the class. The workouts are interesting and different and certainly challenge you. I did not lose weight during the coaching program, but I have been able to see and feel how I am getting stronger through the workouts. I am able to do certain activities for longer without stopping and I have been able to level up on the amount of weight I use for things. I have been telling people that the pack workouts here are like crossfit lite. And some people are there to get PRs and beef up. I am there because I have yet to get bored by it! I am going to make it feel like work, but I don't have to kill myself to beat anyone else but myself. It works so that Mondays and Tuesdays are "Push Days" and they work the front part of your body, Wednesdays and Thursdays are "Pull Days" and they work the back part of your body, and Fridays and Saturdays are "Whim Days" where there is an obstacle course circuit and a core/agility circuit that you go through 3 times each. Every day is a FULL BODY workout. My whole everything is sore after a visit here, but in the best way. And I am happy to push myself and try new things...and modify from there when I am not up to snuff yet (like...box jumps...I keep trying and will keep trying, but my shins are made of bruises and then I do step up instead :-P). I am genuinely not looking forward to my credit running out at the gym because BAREfit is located very conveniently to me, and I really am enjoying my time there. If you have the expendable income for boutique-y gyms, this one is fun and different. Definitely not budget friendly. But the community and atmosphere is so wonderful...it really does a lot to make the experience enjoyable! read more

I had my first BareFit workout in January 2017 at a Yelp Elite event. I loved working out with my yelp friends, but I felt feeling pretty unimpressed with the gym. In Sept 2017, Emily H, "Queen of Yelp" (© Christopher S) planned a co-working space event at the Park, and once again partnered with BareFit for a free workout. A free workout, obviously I HAD to attend (also, Emily had Scarlett's baked goods waiting at the after party.. so calories had to be burned). I can't recall who taught the January class, but Sept was Susie. She was friendly and informative. She explained the workout, kept track of time and station rotation, checked form and offered encouragement throughout. During that workout I got to flip a 285lb tire up and down the parking lot. I loved that! Maybe it was being on T for 2 months, or just feeling really badass, but I wanted more! A week or so passed and my girlfriend suggested that we try the 3-week trial membership. It's basically $20 (to pay for the MindBody app setup) and access to as many classes as you care to attend for those 3 weeks. Rob, the owner sets you up during a personal phone call. He's really upfront that you can cancel at anytime, and explains the billing cycle. If you don't cancel at the end of your trial, you membership continues at $70 a month. Or -- if you join with another person, it's $130 a month - making it $65 a person. When I started my trial, I fully intended on cancelling after, but dammit, if I didn't fall in love with the workouts and Susie's teaching style. I struggled with the $65, but justified that: 1) The workouts keep me motivated 2) The workouts keep me in better shape 3) I pay that much for a 1 hour massage.. so this is basically 3 workouts a week, 16 workouts a month for the same cost Things I didn't expect or think about was the experience.. 1) The variety in workouts .. including the randomness of the physical challenges 2) New friends 3) Stronger - like legit, can do pull-ups and lift and climb the random things (285 tires, punching bags, the building support beams) This is truly an adventure gym. You come in and can literally climb or play on anything. The workouts are setup as Push, Pull, Whim days. Monday/Tuesday are workouts focused on your pushing muscles. Wed/Thurs are pull muscles. Fri/Sat are Whim Days -- they build a ninja warrior style obstacle course. This typically includes an overhead "high road" and floor elements - climbing on or over balancing beams, ropes, 5 foot tall tires. You rsvp for the class in advance via the MindBody app. This gives them a headcount so they can prepare the workouts and also keeps the class size small -- only 12 max. What can you say about a place that is helping you change your life? I've known I needed to get in shape for years, but I kept pushing it off because I've tried weightlifting and doing cardio in a gym, but quickly got bored with the repetitive routine and lost all motivation. I also wanted a personal trainer, but I didn't want some drill sergeant-type musclehead barking orders at me. So when I finally decided to go for it, I began researching gyms and personal trainers around the area, but none felt quite right for me. Then I came across BAREFIT, which intrigued me with their non-traditional approach. After speaking with co-owner Rob at length, I felt this was what I was looking for and blindly made the leap, getting an all-inclusive 6-month package. Regret immediately hit me after hanging up with Rob and every negative thought I could think of ran through my head. He had set me up with Olivia for personal training, and I went into that first session expecting the worst. But what I got was far different. It was...fun! I actually had fun exercising! Within a week, BAREFIT had far exceeded all expectations I had by miles. 3 months in and I am down 25 lbs! Olivia has been amazing to work with. Whether it's during a training session or a group class, she has been pushing me to achieve greater and greater things, while at the same time being caring, encouraging and supportive. She's been awesome at working with me to modify exercises and movements that I'm not able to do just yet, while at the same time still keeping it challenging and fun. And that's the real kicker here, it's fun! Every training session and every class is different. They mix it up and have come up with seemingly no end to the different exercises they have for you to do. Best of all, it's not some sterile chain gym where you're stuck on a weight-lifting machine or a treadmill all the time - they incorporate free weights and reclaimed materials along with traditional and non-traditional exercises to keep it anything but predictive and boring. You never know what they're going to come up with next! And it's a full-body workout of arm, leg, cardio, and core. Yes, you're going to be challenged, but you will also have fun while doing it. And Rob has been amazing with his nutrition and lifestyle change mentoring/coaching sessions. These aren't some quick cash-grab sessions either, Rob checks in often and goes very in-depth, explaining everything thoroughly and making sure you aren't left with any questions. What shocks me the most about BAREFIT is that I don't feel like just another number or a nameless face to make money off of, I'm honestly treated like a friend - with respect and compassion. They really do care about their clients and it shows. If you need proof, you need to look no further than the co-op approach they're taking of not turning anyone away regardless of their ability to pay - in turn allowing you to trade volunteer work helping out the surrounding community for training. Experience was good (coaches are great) until you tried to communicate with cancelling of monthly membership. Owner ignored my messages for days, and I am worried he will charge me regardless and keep ignoring me. It's ok to signup for classes, but be careful about making membership commitment. And my reason for cancellation was actually because I won't be staying in Louisville. However, in any event, even if I don't have a reason, I should be able to cancel and at least get a response. read more

I have tried out one of the trainings which was good. I ended up choosing to not continue training due to personal scheduling issues. I told Rob that I wish to not to continue my training and asked to stop future payments. Despite that my next weeks payment came out. I notified him and asked for it to be reversed. It was not done. NEXT week it was still not reversed and ANOTHER pay ember came out of my account. After several messages saying he will address it it has yet to be addressed, my calls are not answered and my texts asking for my money back are left on "read" 3 weeks later and money has not been returned to my account. I still have no reassurance if I will get my money back or whether or not I will be charged again this Friday. I absolutely love this place. The workouts are not your typical "go to the gym and lift the weights and do cardio" workouts. You are going to do strength training, cardio, and flexibility training in each workout with unique equipment. The workouts always start with a warm up and end with a stretch. The instructors are knowledgeable and demonstrate each move from warm up all the way to the stretch at the end. They watch you and make sure that you are moving correctly. The classes are usually 8-12 people and always vary! You definitely have a team atmosphere with a challenging course. These are moves that can be modified for any fitness level. The restroom is up the stairs, down the hall, and down some stairs but it's available and in working order. No showers available. Be ready to work and get your hands dirty! You are going to get stronger and more flexible! read more

I'm 10 weeks into both the gym membership and transformative coaching with Barefit. I'm giving it 5 stars, I would take a half star off if I could only because the price is a little high. Thoughts on the gym - the workouts are a combination of crosssfit/interval training with some "outdoorsy" challenges like wall and rope climbing, tire flippling , etc. added in. There are three standard workout each week, one focused on "pull", one "push" and one that is obstacle captures based with some core/cardio added in. In each of the workouts there are usually 8 to 10 exercises. The team here clearly puts a lot of thought into keeping each week new and challenging. In 10 weeks I think I've done about 28 of the pack workouts (so maybe 260-280 sets of exercises) and maybe 5 of them have been exact repeats. In addition to the pack workouts, they have V10 workouts which are 20 minute high intensity interval training - row, bike, punch bag, jump rope, etc. I've done about 8 of those and they are a solid supplement to the pack workouts. I should mention also that there are people here of all ages and abilities. The coaches do an excellent job of modifying workouts for everyone. Another thing I've noticed is that the workouts are always structured so that no one person is on display and 95% of the time not dependent on each other (if I had to guess, the coaches use discretion with that as well based on who is working out). One person might be doing handstand push-ups while another in the same rotation is doing standard pushups from their knees and it's neither here nor there to anyone. So sum review of the gym itself - if you are an athlete and have prior gym experience you won't get bored and will have plenty to challenge you. If you aren't an athlete and/or don't have experience with gyms, the team at barefit will welcome you in and give you all the tools you need. Thoughts on transformation coaching - I'm in my 10th weeks of transformation coaching as well. They pair you up with a coach and provide a nutrition plan for you to follow that includes grocery lists and portion recommendations. You work through an app where you can text or talk whenever you want and the coach sends you workouts, inspiration, nutritional advice, etc. and checks in with you multiple times a week. It has worked very well for me, I've lost about 2 lbs a week since I started, gained a ton of flexibility and strength, and have totally changed my workout and dietary habits. Disclaimer as with any gym/coaching program though, you 100% get what you put into it. I've been 90% compliant with my food and also added additional running and weightlifting in outside of the Barefit workouts. Sum review of the transformation coaching - if you are 110% committed to making a change and willing to put the work in, this is a great tool to have while you are working to make that change in your life. Price wise it is not cheap, like many programs it's more affordable if you sign up for a full 6 weeks or 6 months. If you do either of those, take advantage of the additional V10 workouts and yoga and you can easily get 5-6 solid workouts a week out of the program. Overall really pleased, I intend to continue my membership when my 6 months is up at the end of June. read more

Would leave zero stars if I could. I have watched my credit card be charged $93.28 EIGHT times now since cancelling my membership with BAREfit Adventure Training. I have email confirmation stating my account was cancelled July 8th, yet this charge continues. I have had ZERO luck when trying to email, post on their social media pages, directly call and text the owner. When I have reported the unauthorized charges to Chase Bank I have been told to issue a stop payment, which I have done, but they proceed to tell me it's best to have the vendor cancel the membership to guarantee no further charges will be made. Yes, I have received reimbursements for the unauthorized charges but in order to be reimbursed I have to report every single charge. I am going to cancel the card so the purpose of this post is to seek help in how to handle the fact that I've been watching myself get robbed before my eyes twice a month for nearly 4 months. I believe in supporting local businesses but I do not believe in supporting businesses who are poorly and unethically managed. I would appreciate any insight on how to report a business who attempted to rob me of $746.24 and will continue to rob me until my card is cancelled. read more

Tried my first class today. I'm doing the first month promotional membership. The gym is cool, lots of old tires and objects used to work out. I wasn't thrilled with the class, it wasn't very intense and the coach wasn't very engaged. I'll keep going for the first month, but not overly impressed thus far. read more

The coaches and workouts were fabulous! So many available times for classes, it's a great strength training workout. That being said, be careful - I am extremely disappointed with the owner, my sole reason for giving only 2 stars. I gave 30 days notice prior to cancelling my membership, and it was acknowledged by BareFit. However, the next month I was charged - it took 1 email and 2 text messages over the span of 10 days to finally get a response ("Yes. I'll check and BRB")... 5 days later I finally get another response that the charge was refunded. No apology for the inconvenience or mistake or even for the minimal responses. I agree with many of the positive comments about this gym. I enjoyed my time there and felt as if the coaches were nice and informative. This gym is for all levels and you can modify or push yourself as much as you want. I unfortunately was extremely confused throughout my process. I signed up for the "free" 10 day trial, that was actually $60 and only 4 classes. Then had an unexpected charge of $120 the next month. You sign a contract stating you will pay month to month until you cancel. I missed that part due to the fact that I was signing up on my phone. I really wish I would have gotten an email of the contract or a profile where I could see what I signed on their website or something. The owner was kind to help out and get my membership canceled, but I could not drop the charge. The way you sign up for classes is confusing and it is not unlimited access so you have to mentally keep track of how many classes you sign up for or you will get charged extra. From my understanding the month membership is 12 classes or $120..I'm not sure I still don't understand! Again - great idea and fun, but extremely confusing. read more

The classes and coaches at this gym are amazing, the owner on the other hand, is a turn off. You will receive workouts that are challenging, require strength, stamina, and mobility, and all within a positive and team-based environment. The owner will text you every day about going to classes but when it comes to you as the customer needing a refund because the app isn't working or you've requested to terminate your contract, he suddenly disregards any sense of urgency for your bank account. When promised a refund one week, I had to text him a second time the next week asking where the refund was and was told "this has been taken care of as of today" - when the week prior it was supposedly "taken care of". And like clockwork, the same story again when I was expecting my full refund for the "free month of classes" I had to put down a deposit for (beware you'll be shelling out $160+ deposit for the "free" trial). I did in fact receive my refund, but it was a week late. If you say something will be refunded on a certain date, then honor that statement, I shouldn't have to hassle you for my refund. OH, and I never met the owner in person, he does not actually attend the gym from what I noticed (plus side!). read more

I gave it a shot but this workout place wasn't for me....however Absolutely the worst business owner / manager I've ever dealt with...do not give this place access to your credit card account for monthly billing ... Been an absolute nightmare double billing, random billing ...I know mistakes happen but they will not return my call or meet with me to resolve, instead prefer to deflect, ignore, miss lead and tap dance around by texting....extremely unprofessional. I've spent hours talking to my bank and texting the owner when this could have been avoided by a simple phone call or meeting me in person. A nightmare!!! I would go elsewhere and not do business with them. I finally got my money but now, randomly (2 months later), I got another charge on my card after they told me my account was closed in October... Now I'm back to texting the owner and will have to call the bank again to dispute the charge. I'm considering closing my bank account so they don't have access to my money anymore. I think of Barefit as "Hippie Crossfit" and I absolutely love coming here even though it means commuting from Hardin County. The workouts are challenging no matter your fitness level and Curtis, the co-owner and head trainer is inventive with a mind toward using ordinary objects to test your muscles in novel ways. Never boring and it will keep you guessing. Definitely worth a try. read more

I am now entering into my third month with BAREfit and cannot say enough about this place. Absolutely not your cookie cutter gym. No two session are ever the same. The coaches are constantly changing up the game and it keeps you guessing and engaged every session. I called it a game on purpose because it never feels like a mundane workout. Its ALWAYS FUN. BAREfit focuses on progression and in just three months, the progression I have made amazes me. Each session, I see and feel the changes in strength my body is making. BAREfit also focuses on community and belonging. From my very first day, the BAREfit members showed kindness and helpfulness in every workout. The coaches show modifications for every exercise to make them easier or "funner." There are 18 year olds and there are 70 year olds and all ages in between. The BAREfit program has something for everyone and I am thankful everyday for finding this program. read more

I'm a prior self-confessed gym rat, but had to cut down my training due to personal reasons, and my back was getting worse. I haven't found a gym that I've been willing to stick with but in 2014, I was training for a job opening and this gym was the best as far as overall physical transformation. It has mobility, core, strength, cardio, and balance workouts all in the same week. They also have personal training and their schedule is based on the way our muscles contract. They follow Pull movements with the muscles(Monday), push (tues), Pull (wed)., Push (thu), and finally Friday (whim) which is basically obstacle course style with yoga type poses at the end. I just really enjoy it and found it challenging enough to stick with and see results. Anthony is an awesome trainer and really pays attention to form. He pushes you and makes you earn your compliments. I would say the same for Emma. Haha read more

I REALLY enjoyed the workouts BAREfit has to offer. The coaches, class variety, and times where fantastic! The ONLY reason I am giving a 3 star is because of the management/owner. The amount of times I received texts, audio texts, and calls were just too much.. Not to mention the owner doing all the communication was never to be seen at the gym. Maybe some people like that constant text and feel as though it is a form of motivation, but for me, I just wanted to go have a good workout and see if the gym would be a good fit. Another issue I had was with pricing and payments. The owner gave me a price, but when I was billed, it was an extra $10! He said is was taxes, but I have never been to a gym that didn't tell me the exact price I was going to be charged. The deal was if I didn't continue for a second month and completed all my classes the first, then I would be fully refunded. Right after I committed to the first month, I had an uneasy feeling about the charges and if I was ever going to get the refund. It took about three weeks for the owner to finally process my refund after several emails and texts asking for updates on it. If I didn't have to deal with those issues and can solely give a rating on the actual workout experiences, then I would give 5 stars. I would have totally made them my new gym. read more

I tried this place out after buying a groupon a month or so ago. It was.. Okay. I'm not a fan of bootcamp/ crossfit classes because of the lack of personalization. Beginners and experienced athletes shouldn't be doing the same work outs, and training with weights without knowing correct form is just a recipe for injury. Anyways, that kind of stuff is typical for these classes. The workouts are intense, which is good, but again, not always smart. Their prices vary based on income etc but if I remember they are somewhere between $75and $120 a month. When I was attending the classes the space was nowhere near nice enough to warrant that kind of price. No AC, the dressing rooms were in a sketchy unfinished area of the building full of dust and cobwebs, and the bathrooms were also through this area then down stairs. This area was also unfinished and once I went in and the light wouldn't come on so I had to leave the door cracked to be able to see. To me, paying that much a month should at least guarantee feeling safe walking through the building. I like the idea behind this place (using mostly recycled materials instead of traditional weights) but the execution was disappointing. Maybe if the prices were lower I'd recommend this place, but it needs a lot of work. read more

I just started going to BareFit a couple weeks ago. I have tried several different workout plans over the years. I was hesitant at first because I do not like boot camp style classes. The classes could technically be considered boot camp like but the instructors are encouraging not yelling. The classes fly by and you get a great workout. I would recommend anyone to try it that likes a non-traditional gym experience. read more

I always enjoy going to BAREfit - it's always interesting with the different workouts, and it's fun. What is not to like about that?

I joined BAREfit last year in May. I have tried other gyms, like Planet Fitness, but I just was not getting results, and I went almost every day. Here, I workout with my personal trainer, Emma, and go to the PACKworkouts, and I started seeing results each month. I had only been going once a week (I wanted to go more but with school and a new baby, that was almost impossible for me) and I started seeing muscles peek through (YAY!). Emma has been AWESOME, she kicks my butt when I need it and can easily tell when I need a moment to catch my breath. I am the type of person who needs someone to encourage me to get to the gym, and they are very helpful! Other gyms, you just don't feel a sense of belonging, or there are always those people who hog machines, or stare at you weird like "what are you doing at the gym??" or whatever else. Here, that just doesn't happen. I felt instantly at home at this gym, and everyone has been very welcoming, no judgement regardless of your body type/age/etc. I am looking forward to the obstacle course getting finished.
