This place continues to expand their natural play spaces and there is so much to explore! My kids,…read more6&2, love hiking to see the giants, and spending time in the natural playground. There are water and dirt/sand play spaces, so may want to pack extra clothes for the ride home. There are plenty of paved or gravel paths as well as backcountry trails. Pack a lunch and stay all day! If you're walking the giants path, there is often a snow cone truck parked near Mama Loumari on the weekends. They also offer plenty of family events, so be sure to check the calendar. It is $15 per car to enter or $75 for an annual pass. We find it totally worth the pass as a family who drives from Louisville. Leashed dogs are welcome. Remember to bring your bags to clean up after them :)

Hoping this will still be rescheduled for this year or at the very least that it will return in 2027. We thoroughly enjoyed this experience and being exposed to a special cultural event. Tribes from across the nation were on site. We had several opportunities to interact with various members of the tribes in attendance and questions were welcomed and answered. I believe members as far away as North Dakota had traveled here to participate. The beading and decorative embroidery on the clothing was explained. These are NOT costumes, which is terminology that is considered an insult. It was explained regarding the difference in that these are their clothes and not some sort of dress up play acting session. The drumming and dancing was also explained. We were also able to try fry bread and several other food items, which was an epic experience to have at least a hinting glimpse into another culture. Looking forward to attending future powwows.

Really enjoyed our visit to My Old Kentucky Home State Park!…read more My fiancé and I stayed in Bardstown for a few days so we decided to check out this state park since we had heard good things. So glad we did! We walked into the visitor center and had no issues booking a tour. We took a causal stroll around the grounds before heading to the beautiful mansion. There we had Kit show us around the house and gave us the history of the Rowan family, who owned built the house in 1795. She was so kind and informative! You learn about the Rowan's and their cousin, Stephen Foster, who was inspired by the house for his song " My Old Kentucky Home." We appreciated that they also include the history and stories of the enslaved people who lived and worked on the grounds. This is a must visit when in Kentucky!

We participated in an afternoon tour of My Old Kentucky Home and received a group rate of $12 per person since we purchased at least 10 tickets. The tour of the home is self-guided and typically takes less than an hour and then can allow extra time if needed to check out the grounds and/or the gift shop. On this day, however, we had a wonderful tour guide who was impressive with her knowledge about the house and the residents. The house is beautifully maintained and the grounds are also pristine. The visitor center had seating with the option to view a film while waiting. There is also a gift shop filled to the brim with a multitude of items. Plenty of parking. Restroom facilities are well maintained. Overall, a well maintained historical property.

I've been to Dean Watts Park in Bardstown several times over the years, and it's honestly one of…read morethose places that I've always enjoyed taking my daughters. We've brought them here to play, ride their bikes, and just get outside and enjoy the park. I've also spent plenty of time here watching my daughter play soccer, so I've gotten to experience the park both as a parent and just as someone looking for a nice place to spend some time with the kids. The biggest thing that stands out to me about Dean Watts Park is how large it is. It's a huge sports complex with plenty of open space, and everything feels spread out rather than cramped. The park has numerous soccer, football, baseball and softball fields, along with playgrounds, picnic areas, restrooms, concession stands and a paved walking trail that's around two miles long. The soccer fields are especially impressive. They're generally in great shape, and you can tell a lot of effort goes into keeping the fields maintained. When you're there watching a game, it makes a big difference having plenty of room around the fields and a park that is designed specifically to handle youth sports. Other visitors regularly mention how well-groomed the athletic fields are and how clean and well-maintained the facilities are. I also really like that there's more to do than just watch sports. When I've brought my daughters here, they've enjoyed riding their bikes and playing around the park. The paved walking trail is another nice feature, especially if you want to get some exercise while the kids are playing or during a soccer game. It's also a great place for families because there's so much open space. You don't feel like you're packed into a small neighborhood park. There are plenty of areas to sit, walk around, let the kids play, or just enjoy being outside. The only real downside I've noticed is that it can get pretty busy when multiple games are going on, and parking can become a little harder to deal with around game changes. Overall, Dean Watts Park is a place I have a lot of good memories at because I've been able to enjoy it with my daughters in different ways -- from riding bikes and playing when they were younger to sitting on the sidelines watching my daughter play soccer. It's a big, clean, well-maintained park with something for kids, parents, athletes and people just looking to get outside. If you're in the Bardstown area and looking for a good family park, especially if your kids are involved in sports, Dean Watts Park is definitely worth checking out. It's clear that this is a park the community takes pride in, and from my experiences there, I can see why.

We are currently researching plans for our own wind phone and had wanted to see an example of one already in use. The paved trail winds around behind the ball fields and then becomes a mulched path into the woods. The path is fairly steep and passes by a clearing with a circle of log seating and then continues down a hill until it reveals a creek. Turning to the left, the trail continues and we soon find the box for the prior wind phone installation; however, it seems that vandalism took place because the rotary dial phone is missing. Nice trails and difficulty rating is mild to moderate walk, The hope is to return sometime again soon and that the wind phone installation will be restored for use. Very large paved parking lot. Porta-potty restroom facilities. Multiple well-maintained ball fields.
