My daughter has been taking modeling as well as acting classes here & it has just fostered/encouraged the creative skills & talents that she already had. Barbizon is a great stepping stone that informs the students as well as their parents some of the intricacies that go into possibly getting into "the business." Crush my heart when barbizon told us that they didn't have any classes that would be a proper "fit " For my kid with her being on the autism spectrum . So i get told she has a cute voice for commercials and a look for tv but she would have to take classes private . Then ask because they didn't see a fathers name on the application they assume i wouldn't be able to pay for classes . I am writing this review to get a complementary ticket for my kid's graduation. The classes were pricey to say the least, and there was not communicating between the teacher and the parents (my child is only eight and not very independent yet). so I would find out about the events and requirements after the facts, but he was excited about the environment. I have to say that they very well notified me of every class so that my kid would not miss one. We are hanging in there to see if we can score a roll in a commercial at least, but only time will tell. read more

We went into it aware of the fees and knowing that is was not guaranteed that her acting career would take off from it. They did teach us the tools on how to pursue a career in acting. Throughout her experience, she gained the knowledge and tools and her confidence grew even more good to continue her journey in the acting world. Their was alot of miscommunication when making the tuition payments but luckily the staff was very friendly and always willing to work with us. my daughter went for an audition 4/30/2017. i was so happy for her, but when I informed them that i can no longer keep her at barbizon, i was informed that I will not get a refund. My daughter is graduating from Barbizon this week. She is a competitive dancer and wanted to explore modeling, acting and singing so we signed her up. It was pricey but she loved every minute of it so it was money well spent. The staff there are extremely friendly and accommodating as we had to change a few dates because of conflict with dance. I took one class with them the first day. They didn't tell us we had to pay upfront so my mom was worried... after convincing us to take it we had to give $500, right out of my moms checking account. I felt uneasy about this so later that day when we came back I changed my mind and didn't want to continue with the program. They didn't like this and refused to give me a refund even though I didn't take a class. That day I was so sad and upset because this program advertises to be so much more than it is (a simple over priced training program NOT an agency of any sort). I signed my daughter up for modeling and acting classes. The price is steep for 10 classes, but I only signed her up to get more confidence with herself and for public speaking. This is now her 10th class and I must say I do see a positive difference in her. She's more confident and her school grades went up. It might be because of Barbizon or just maturity. What I didn't like was how they nickel and dime you. For example graduation tickets they only give one and you have to purchase more at $10. You can give a review on yelp to get one more free. The students also need a COMP card which you have to get done. At least give us a template for free. Nope you have to get yourself. At their prices they give you nothing. This is a scam business. I can done this a couple years back when I was much younger and naive. I sadly begged my dad to pay for the class because I wanted to model/act. And my loving dad wanting to make me happy paid the thousands so that I can take a "modeling class". They tell you they will hook you up with gigs after- lies. They sign you up to their "casting site" that literally no one uses to cast anyone. The classes are pretty useless. The only thing I learned to do was stand in the "model stance". I am honestly so outraged by my spending my fathers heard earned money on scam bullshit. And let me tell you HOW I KNOW it's a scam. Besides me actually taking it and realizing it's bs.... I was contacted by Barbizon AFTER my graduation. I thought this was the next step into getting gigs. I arrived at the location (hotel) where there were many other teens like me there. I seemed to be one of the few dressed to walk and audition. Anyways, I sat through the whole intro realizing this was another invite event to recruit people. During which I volunteered to do a demo walk. I walked as Barbizon themselves taught me. The lady presenting (paid person) stopped me middle of it saying wow that was nice but it is not professional. She turns to everyone and says, when you join Barbizon everyone will learn to walk professionally, not like what you all know as an average person. Little did she know Barbizon "taught" me how to walk "professionally" already. Had I had the balls at that age to call her out on her bullshit in front of a room full of people, I would have, but sadly I stayed quiet. Moving along, what they do is after talking a lot of big promises on how your kids can get famous and great exposure to the industry they have every person meet individually at a time at a table with someone working for Barbizon. They tell you they have decided to accept you into the school because they see potential. THEY ACCEPT EVERYONE, because it's a scam to make money, but of course they do not tell you that. They put extra effort into making you believe you are special and that you have "talent". When I told the lady I already did it she looked shocked and surprised that I had not called them out on their bullshit. She looked a bit worried. When I left, I was very angry that I spent so much money on this, and angry that I got scammed and that so many people get scammed like this. Listen there are legit classes out there, that don't cost nearly as much and actually teach you valuable things. Barbizon is not one of them. Please save your money. If that is not enough to make you realize, I will tell you another. About a year after that I saw an ad on CRAIGLIST hiring people to be paid spokesmen/actors for Barbizon to recruit people; basically to be that lady convincing everyone in the room to join the classes and empty your pockets... I was livid. I still am because I lost my money and never did anything about it. I'm not opposed to spending money if I gain something. I'm angry because I did not gain anything, at allll. read more

I love Barbizon's welcoming and polite aura. Both of my daughters enjoyed their classes. Their favorite instructors were Ms. Vanessa and Ms. Jazelle. I can say I have seen the improvement and confidence in both my girls. Even just in their self presentation. One thing I would change about Barbizon is everyone not being on the same page. I am very disappointed in my experience with Barbizon. For the amount of money, they charge they should have way better service. I have been to many different educational programs and facilities before and this is by far the worst service I have ever experienced. Here's what happened: I went to the audition 4/13/2017 where I met my Talent Director Kevin Rogers who signed me up. I was very excited about qualifying as a student and the possibilities of launching a career in modeling. I went the orientation class and really enjoyed it then started the actual classes that I paid for. My first class basically went over everything I learned in the orientation then the second class was a review of the first class with 30 minutes of new information at the end. The 3rd we reviewed the first and second class then a little new info towards the end. By the time we hit class 4, I guess my classmates picked up on it too so they started coming in late. Each time someone came in late she would just restart the lesson from the very beginning. So by the time we were 20 minutes into the class everyone who was there on time had to listen to everything from the start at least 3 times and most of what was being said seem to be a repeat. So it just seemed like a waste of my time to even be there. By that class, I had enough and requested to switch to a new teacher. First I was told that there was another teacher teaching the same class at the same time but in a different room. When I got there I found that was not true. The person who gave me that information was miss informed and they printed me a schedule for a new session that was starting in 2 weeks and to come back at the time listed on the schedule. So after waiting 2 weeks for a new session to start, I get to the school only to find out that the class was never approved. So even though I had a class schedule that class never existed in their eyes. It was then that I was signed up for private classes with Ms. Magic. (Who is an awesome instructor, I learned a lot from her.) You'd think this would be the end of it. I wish, during our private sessions the people in the registration area did a bad job scheduling our sessions in an empty classroom for me to be taught in. After the session, my instructor and I would confirm our next date when I was suppose to come back for class. Then I would go to the registration area to have them schedule it in the system. I'd always ask them to right it down for me so when I came back on the date requested I had that note that proved I had spoken to someone. There were 2 instances where they never put our sessions on the schedule. During that time I had also been requesting the date for graduation so that my family and friends knew what date to attend. The answer I got from the registration area is that we will tell you in enough time dont worry about it. Well the week of my last class (8/20/2017) guess what I found out, that my graduation was is in 2 days. I said there is no way I can have my family who lives out of town fly in, in that short time frame. They said they will put me in the next graduation. Today is 3/25/2018 after numerous calls an emails back and forth to Maya trying to get my headshots done I am no closer to making any headway and I am at my wits end. Our experience has been amazing!! My daughter was scouted while we were walking around Manhattan. After the audition she was called back for an interview. Once the interview was over she was considered a perfect candidate for the modeling/acting class. If nothing else I wanted my daughter to gain confidence and to come out of her shy bubble.
