The PFA was eventually removed after my ex secured the home and temp custody, of the children. At that time I hurredly rushed through to find an attorney. This is a mistake that I will never make again. Not all attorneys or firms are created equal. Not all representation is good or beneficial. Which was proven by Tyler who was professional and informative. Tyler called out the efforts that filing this 2nd PFA was committed to doing which was an effort to keep my children from me. Unfortunately this happens... Tyler worked with opposing counsel and was able to get it withdrawn. Even if it's not valid...the courts dont and won't necessarily take that same stream of thought. What I considered when I made my decision to hire him was that he has prior experience as a prosecutor, he works part time as a judge, he has over 20 years of experience in criminal justice, and he knows the prosecutors at the Olathe Municipal Court which is where I was cited to court. With all his background he can see the perspective of a prosecutor and a judge in order to attain the best outcome. In my case, I was illegally pulled over in Olathe because an officer driving behind me, ran my tags and they showed the owner with a suspended driver's license. The car is in my dad's name and we look nothing alike, he's 47 years old and I'm 22. There is no question that there was no reason for the cop to pull me over unless he was completely sure that the driver matched the description of the one with the suspended license. After I showed him my DL, registration, and insurance, he changed the topic and allegedly claims he smelled marijuana in the vehicle. Truth is, there was marijuana in my vehicle but it's been hidden for so long that the car couldn't possibly smell like weed. In the moment I just thought to myself that I can't prove what he claims to smell or not and thought that he could just use that as probable cause to search my vehicle anyway. Unfortunately I was not very informed about the dos and don'ts at a traffic stop so I just decided to be honest and gave up the marijuana I had in the vehicle. The reason I know he was lying was because it was less than a gram in a sealed container, which was in a zip lock bag, which was in a shoe, which was under the matt next to the spare tire in my trunk. He must have a great sense of smell if he could detect that all the way from the driver's window when it's been in the trunk for weeks. He was even shocked when I admitted to having some because I fell in his trap. My charges ended up being possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. When I met with John he seemed pretty secure of how he was going to work this case. What complicated my case a bit was the fact that I'm a temporary resident here in the United States and I had to resolve this issue by the time I had to renew my immigration status which was right around the corner. Luckily John was able to work out a deal in which I ended up taking a drug abuse evaluation and attending an eight hour drug and alcohol class. After I completed the class and got my certificate, my case was dismissed. If I would've been convicted, that would've caused a big conflict with my immigration renewal and I was in no disposition to risk that. Overall John handled my case very professional, in a timely manner, and took into consideration my special circumstances I was in, to get the best possible outcome. The only minor complaint I have would just be better communication with the client. Or maybe it was just me being my first time in trouble, but I just wanted to be up to date with each step of the way because I was worried sick. Besides that, very good attorney and I highly recommend him.
