I've had 2 excellent experiences with KC Elder Law in OP, KS.
First was for the benefit of my elderly parents. Atty Amber Thailing took my call and met with me same day in January when it was apparent my Mom needed long term care and Dad was in hospital and we didn't know how we could afford both. Amber recommended separating their assets so Mom's long term care didn't eat up all their savings leaving nothing for my Dad's current and future living expenses. She also handled updating their wills, durable power of atty's and health power of atty's for the State of Kansas from State of Indiana which were some non user friendly versions. Amber was awesome to work with and very accommodating with our crazy schedule and tight timeline. She also was very knowledgeable, very personable and professional! I've never met an atty so responsive as Amber in either my personal or professional lives.
For the final steps of separating my parents assets, and ultimately applying for KS Medicaid, Amber sent me to the firm's Medicaid expert, Dan Flack. I hated having to apply for Medicaid for Mom, but Mom's long term care monthly bills would have dissolved all of their assets leaving nothing for my Dad's living expenses as he ages. The process to file was complex and a lot of paperwork, but Dan was excellent in knowing what specific documentation was required and provided guidance every step of the way! After the filing in June, he contacted KS Medicaid every week to see if they had reviewed / approved our application. After Mom was approved in Nov '17, Dan provided an excellent summary of next steps to follow over the next 90 days to get Mom setup correctly. I have had a few follow-up questions for Dan and he's been quick to respond and so helpful! I've had a few issues with the nursing home understanding the Medicaid process and Dan has been excellent helping clarify! I can't thank Dan enough for all of his help in this very complex process!
Amber did such a bang up job on my parents wills, etc. I reached out when my husband and I were finally ready to do our own Trust , DPOA's and HPOA's. She again was awesome and provided excellent guidance on how best to word the trust for our specific situation. It was a breeze and we got both a soft copy and hard copy of all our docs.
I highly recommend KC Elder Law for all your estate planning needs. read more
