We had an amazing experience at Bass Pro Shop in Sun Prairie, WI when we went to pick up our boat…read more The paperwork was ready and easy, they gave us an hour of instruction on how everything worked, and then they went above and beyond! Our trailer hitch wiring was the wrong one, so their boat service people actually took 2 and spliced them together for us! They plugged it in, and everything worked immediately and we were on our way. We couldn't ask for better service. They were so helpful. It's been over a month and the boat is perfect. We feel like we were treated like royalty! I would give them more than 5 stars if I could.

We were on the hunt (during boat clearance season) for a fishing style pontoon boat. We found one…read morewe wanted that is carried by Bass Pro Shops. But, again, it was clearance season and we tried to get one at the Bass Pro Shops in the Milwaukee area and no dice. We tried Green Bay--nope. So when we found that they had one here while we were on vacation in Door County, we were hoping we'd be able to reserve it in some way without making the drive. They allowed us to do so by putting down a refundable deposit. We did so and they got the boat prepped for our purchase and we were able to pick it up a few days later. Everyone we worked with was helpful and friendly. They walked us through the boat and made sure we felt completely comfortable with everything before taking the boat away. The store itself is brimming with outdoor goodness. Everything was neat and in order and help is readily offered. No complaints! Get to it!

This is more of a review of Marmot than of Fontana Sports. I bought my first Marmot down jacket…read morehere, and it lasted almost twenty years before the zipper broke. It kept me so warm and toasty in the brutal upper Midwest winters. I discovered the Marmot brand here in the 1990s. Back in the 1990s, Patagonia was not considered as "technical" and as bougie as Marmot and The North Face. Arcteryx either didn't exist or was an obscure brand almost thirty years ago. Now, Patagonia and Arcteryx are off-the-charts insanely priced. Marmot and The North Face are considered "value" brands. In any case, I still buy Marmot; it's better quality and far better value than Patagonia because: 1. Higher down fill power and 2. Higher down fill weight I recently bought a 700-fill down parka from Marmot with 220 grams of down for far less money than a 600-fill down parka with 150 grams of down from Patagonia. I was cold in the Patagonia parka, and it was horribly expensive. I had to return. I also bought coats from Eddie Bauer and from L.L. Bean. Nowhere nearly as warm as Marmot. The Marmot down parka that I recently bought is called the Montreaux Coat, and I've yet to find a warmer coat at such a great price point. It hits my knee, although it's supposed to hit my calf, so that's a bit misleading on their website. It's closer to parka length than coat length. I like that when the zipper broke after almost twenty years of owning my first Marmot down jacket, I called Marmot's Customer Service, they sent me a shipping label, and they said that they would gladly repair the zipper for me, for free. When they couldn't repair the zipper, they just sent me a new Marmot down jacket. So, I wore that complimentary replacement jacket for another ten years before finally buying the Montreaux coat this year almost thirty years after buying my first Marmot down jacket from Fontana Sports.

In our quest to find a ski boot that fit a unique situation (short person, strong calves), we…read morelooked many places. The nice young woman that helped us at REI was super friendly and willing to help us learn about boots and what we needed to look for. She found ONE pair of boots in stock (bad time to boot shop, unfortunately for us) that fit. We were on our way to try on some used boots elsewhere, but thanked her for her time and maybe we'd see her again. We weren't looking to buy NEW boots (for a new skier), but we were running out of options. After striking out with a Craigslist listing, we shopped around some other stores, but ended up back at REI. Our salesperson recognized us and hopped over to see what was up. We got the boots and, thankfully, they were on a great sale. I've shopped REI a bit before - they feel expensive, but they carry good stuff. They are always friendly when helping us, and we've never had issues with products or returns. They're doing a good job with social distancing, hand sanitizer, etc. I appreciate those efforts.
