This cult bar in Via Morosini in Trastevere has quite a fan club, and you can see why. Attracting a…read morefew students from nearby John Cabot, it is also popular with a young Italian crowd, attracted by its eclectic interior on three levels. The cellar lounge is a mirror lined homage to the 1980s, while the ground floor area where the bar is located is equally trapped in a timewarp. As you sip your cocktail or beer, you can admire still-packaged A-Team, MASH or Doctor Who toys, proto-video games and 1970s Playboy Magazine covers. Upstairs, there's a vintage table-football table and cushioned lined benches, although they're not the most comfortable. The staff is laid back and friendly; on the last visit we talked them into swapping in our own music collection via Spotify, and they had some nice ideas for the cocktails we drank: adding Angostura Bitters to the Negroni gave it a nice depth. It's one of those bars which would potentially look a bit shabby with the lights on but in the dark its a fun, eclectic place to be. It's great with a group of friends and seems to attract a relaxed selection of punters. Technically, it's famous for its selection of rum but they also serve everything else from beer and wine through to cocktails and long drinks.

Marco also had fun making us snack concoctions if fresh fruit to go with our drinks. The atmosphere is always lovely no matter how many people are in, and in the weekend it can be quite crowded with young Italians. The basement is great for seating a large group, whereas the small bar area is good for chatting with a couple of friends or mingling. The upstairs room, sprinkled with sofas and board games, is another fun seating option. The bar staff has a great choice in music, but they also let us put on our own playlist one night. The décor is edgy and eclectic with toy skeletons, old video games, and old playboy posters. It's hard not to have fun here!

We gave George Byron a try after checking out menus from a few neighboring restaurants. We ordered a veggie burger and my husband ordered wings. Both items were served with a side of fries. We had no issues or concerns with the food. The food here was delicious however, this restaurant is definitely a tourist trap and very overpriced for what you actually receive. Our issue here was the service. We were seated near the bar area in a booth that had no AC, no fan and very little ventilation. The servers were both generally unfriendly and seemed disinterested. At one point a woman of African descent entered the restaurant and asked the bartender a question. After she left, my husband heard one of them say a racial slur in Italian. Unacceptable. Oh, yes we are American, but we know the bad words. We can only imagine what was said about us after we left if this is how they treat customers. There are similar reviews online that state customer service issues with this establishment. I urge you to find a place that actually welcomes your business and diversity.
