We were only a group of 5 but the restaurant is great for larger groups as well; they have a group prefixe menu for groups 10 and larger. The prices are also more than reasonable. Now for what I ate: Crab salad with red berry vinagrette. Delicious and great way to start the meal. Not too fish and loved how it tasted with the strawberries. Baked vegetables "escalibada" served with cold pork meat and king prawns. - If all vegetable dishes were presented this way I would be super skinny. Wonderfully flavored and beautiful. Pigs trotters with fresh seared foie in Pedro Ximenez sherry reduction - Rich and decadent but delicious! I couldn't pass this up as this is something that would never be available to me back home or if it is, would cost and arm and a leg. Two other main dishes were ordered but don't remember what they were. One was a meat dish and one was the fish of the day. However, both enjoyed them and they were beautiful! (See pics) Torrija flambeada - my favorite Basque/Spanish dessert and they did this well. This would be the result if french toast and creme brulee had a baby. Caramelized to a crispy on the outside, bready but super soft and moist inside. I also tried two other desserts that others ordered cause I embrace my sweet tooth: Bitter chocolate ice cream with olive oil and salt. - Gelato like consistency. Rich, delicious and goes so well with the olive oil and salt. Txutxtxuak - they're like very thing pastry cigars that are filled with a custard and sitting on top of a small puddle of chocolate sauce. Yum.

I have had the best gazpacho I have ever had here and the Austurian faba bean soup is EXCELLENT!! The bacalao superb and the baby rack of pork cooked to perfection. All with a great view and a VERY clean restaurant. Yelp Now that I have been yelping for a while, I realize what a cool application this really is. Yelp has become my "go to" site whenever I go to a new city around the world. I've also been able to communicate with yelp friends from around the world whenever I travel to a new city in order to get advice of where to eat and also for business information. Yelp is also a great way to keep track of your past experiences and it has become a digital record of where I have been and how much I enjoyed those locations. Yelp is also really great place to connect with people in your own town to see what is going on and what is fun and which restaurants are new and exciting. Try it, you may very well enjoy becoming a yelper also.

Calle Laurel has no shortage of restaurants, but as we were walking along the very crowded street,…read morethere was something about dark, mysterious interior of Laurus that caught our eyes. Laurus prides itself first and foremost as a wine bar, but a wine bar that serves very high quality food. The wine and the food, yes those were outstanding. But I'll get to that in a minute. An important aspect of dinner that made the evening so memorable was our waiter. He had the sense of humor, conviviality, swagger (and not to mention looks) of Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean. You need another fork? Don't expect to get one without him pulling a mild joke on you first. It was just punch-line after punch-line throughout the night. If his second job is not as a comedian, I implore him to consider this as an option. The wine selection featured reds and whites from all three of the sub-regions of La Rioja, many of which are not distributed in the United States. Prices were also extremely reasonable. For dinner, there are two menus: a three course prix fixe or an a la carte menu. We opted for the prix fixe, as many of the options available were also on the a la carte menu and the prix fixe worked out to be an excellent deal. Portions were also quite large compared to what one typically receives in Europe. Before we ordered, we were brought warm, flaky, airy bread. For a starter, I had a salad of fresh mixed greens with goat cheese. My main course was bacalao al pil pil - very traditional, but well prepared and hearty. (Laurus does have other more original dishes featuring both fish and meat; the restaurant is by no means a traditional Basque place.) Best of all was dessert: a decadent chocolate and hazelnut cake (it looked very much like a dacquoise). After dessert, our mischievous waiter brought us various shots of liquor (one of which was orujo). This was a very kind gesture and great way to end the meal. Because Logroño is not known for having the best food, I was extremely impressed with the quality of what we received at Laurus.
