The first few bites were very good. The granita tasted a lot more homemade than the others I've had--rich, creamy, very very nutty (vs artificial flavoring)... and the brioche was fantastic--soft, slightly sweet, perfect. The bad: after the first few bites, the granita started to taste like nothing. I think the strong flavor dulled my tongue. I don't really know why, but let's just say it may be wise to share one granita with someone since you may not taste the second half. You don't need the whole thing for yourself, at least if your goal is flavor. Ironically, the other granita I've had elsewhere kept it's flavor--sweeter and more like a milky sorbet--but was less extraordinary. Bottom line: Bring a friend or lover and share!

We stayed a few nights in Taormina, and visiting Castlemona was recommended. Our driver said, "make sure you go to Bar Turrisi, it's world famous." So of course, we made our way to the little town of Castelmola, which is about 20min drive from Taormina center. To our surprise when we walked in, the entire bar is covered in phallic artwork, sculpture, furniture... you name it, it's on "theme." It's an old place with a fun idea, and people do seem to enjoy it. Now for the actual food and drink... it was ok. I had a mediocre aperol spritz, so/so calamari, and a couple average arancini. The servers were nice, the prices are reasonable, but I definitely wouldn't recommend this as a destination bar you had to see in Sicily.
