Highly recommended. I had lunch here on a Sunday in late April and everything was perfect. We sat…read moreon the sun-soaked terrace, which is just below the beautiful main church dome at the top of Altea. Surprisingly, there were a few open tables and we sat down without a wait.
A waiter took our drink order and let us know that the kitchen boss would be out soon to take our order. We ordered a salad and a rice dish for two - arroz a banda (seafood dish). It's a nice touch for the owner to take your order personally!
Soon after, the waiter delivered two homemade croquetas and 2 generous slices of toast bathed in sweet local tomatoes - compliments of the house.
Our mediterranean salad arrived shortly thereafter and was delicious - fresh everything, and huge chunks of tuna. The rice came soon after, delivered in a traditional paella pan, and was perfect. Not too fishy and just the right amount of flavor.
There was one last surprise when the check arrived - an offer for an after-lunch liquor chupito (we chose limoncello) and two homemade little chocolate cookies - the perfect was to end a wonderful meal.
I look forward to going back on my next visit to Altea! Note: if you want paella it has to be pre-ordered. All the food on the other tables looked amazing as well - a fine example of Mediterranean cooking at its finest.
