The beach itself is vast, it has great waves for surfing, and it is entirely gorgeous. The cliffs either side ensconce the bay, making it feel like a private slice of ocean, even though it's not small. The practicalities: There are fantastic coast guards to make sure you don't get washed out by the tide (like we nearly did). The beach is barely a few minutes from all manner of little shops, bars, and eateries (we got fish and chips and sat on the beach). You can hire surfing equipment and even get lessons (next time). It's clean, it's beautiful, and it's absolutely worth the drive from Dublin. Just watch out for the weever fish -- they'll give you quite a sting, if you stand one them!

But something about it not being as accessible to Irish people, made this seem more important of a place to document. I did see someone with a surf board heading down to the beach. We followed the GPS coming from the west…read moreand it took us down a very narrow and windy road culminating in a steep descent down a two way road that was only really 1.5 cars wide. When we left to the east, the way out was much more straightforward. I'd recommend following this route regardless of the direction you approach from. The beach itself had a perimeter of large smooth rocks. Like most of our trip, it was extremely windy. The beach was very scenic but we didn't see anyone spending much time there, granted the end of September isn't exactly the peak beach time. 3 stars.

There are a ton of cute little shells that you can find intact and wash off if you want a souvenir. The shops were closed when I visited today but apparently they may be up for sale and reopened sometime this year. There is a good amount of parking here and a very clean container bathroom with running water and no smell. There's a spigot you can use to wash your feet off with when you're done. If you have the chance I definitely recommend stopping here.

About a quarter-century ago, I sought the beach out on my first trip to the Dingle Peninsula and found it looking as magical as it did in the movie. Earlier this month, I returned with Jamie W. knowing full well that it was on our way to our overnight stay in Dingle. The magic was there still (photo: http://bit.ly/2ehwPGZ). It was close to sunset and the perfect time to enjoy the three-mile stretch of flat compacted sand that looked so visually stunning you would have thought someone intentionally designed the beach that way. It was fairly empty except for random tourists and hardcore surfers. All we did was walk out into the sand and enjoy the calm of the sea cradled by Brandon Bay. There were two stray orange cats next to the outhouse rather indifferent to our presence but somehow in tune with the peaceful environs (photo: http://bit.ly/2fc3yLz). The beds are comfortable, the views excellent (we saw some WONDERFUL sunsets), and the house spacious enough that sounds from the sitting room and kitchen do not travel back to the bedrooms.Modern appliances, an easy to navigate kitchen, and every kind of utensil you could need made cooking meals a pleasure. And the dining area is lovely! Not that we had to cook and eat-in, mind you - there is a good variety of restaurants to choose from within a few minutes drive from Curlew Cottage. Carol has made available a comprehensive list of activities to enjoy throughout Dingle Peninsula. We particularly recommend the tour to Great Blasket Island out of Dingle - phenomenal! And the drive over the Dingle Mountains is not to be missed! Be sure to leave yourselves enough time to drive over Conor Pass if you have any kind of deadline to meet (boat trip, dinner reservation, etc) on the other side. All-in-all, staying at Curlew Cottage made for a memorable week, and we can't wait to return!

The weather did not diminish the pure beauty that surrounded us. This beach is gorgeous and the locals and tourists alike consider it one of Ireland's most beautiful beaches. We were the only people on the beach for as far as the eye can see and we enjoyed the quiet solitude. At five miles long Ventry Beach is the longest beach in Ireland. When the weather is suitable you can enjoy safe swimming, water sports, kayaking and so much more. My favorite listed activity being horse back riding. Life guards are employed during the summer season with times posted.

It was also windy enough that it was pushing us along at a light jog/trot at a couple points. No joke. I had suggested that my mom remove her hearing aid for our walk and that was probably a good idea. Remove your hats, sunglasses etc and tuck them away safely. Tie back long hair. Great views on a clear day though. Go early and hope for good skies.

So a car of adults could become VERY VERY EXPENSIVE! With all the hiking trails closed and the amount of places you could hike to (cant even goto the southern viewpoint), it definitely is not worth the price. I ended up doing the hike from Doolin (8 miles round trip to Pats View) trudging through tons of mud and rain and not only is the view better, you dont have those stone barriers blocking the view. Park in Doolin early and do the hike from there. Note there are so many closures to the trail as of 11/2025 makes the 15EUR not worth. But I came early before they started charging. They don't kick you out if you are already in there as well.
