Along with a coffee and a grandmother's-recipe corn muffin, it re-orients us to this unique place and immerses us in the community in a meaningful way. Its news is very focused on the local but also reports on more global stories of universal significance or state-side impact. Theres always something eye-opening and informative or just plain personal and interesting. I pick up the grass-roots paper whenever I travel, to support independent journalism as routinely as possible, and this is an excellent example of solid reporting of audience-relevant stories.

Firstly, the Bangor Daily News has a comics section. This makes me happy. I love the comics. It's the best part of the paper. Secondly, there's a lot of local news. Local sports, local health, all sorts of Maine goings on and national news too. I enjoyed it very much. The newspaper is a family owned business and is now in its fourth generation of ownership. He is very helpful and friendly, talking to him about Stephen King was phenomenal. With his detailed and wide range of knowledge of the author and novels, you will learn much more than you thought. Though a lot of the rare books (many are autographed and/or first edition, some in other languages) were out of our price range (no complaints, it's totally understandable), we still made sure to buy a couple of cheaper books and trinkets. If you do stop by, pick up something to help the store because you don't find shops like this very often. I will definitely come back!
