Chaney's Catering

I can't believe I have not submitted a review on this family owned catering business yet. My wife…read moreand I got married in July 2020. Because we were in the height of Covid, we decided to have a small backyard wedding with close friends and family. We wanted the catering to be comfortable and simple yet delicious. In our search, we came across Mr. Chaney and his family run catering business. His barbecue selections were plentiful and we decided upon the pork and chicken. Mr. Cheney arrived the day of the wedding and proceeded to set up and prepare for the evening's event without us even knowing. He brought his two children as helpers and I have to say that this was an awesome experience. Mr. Cheney and his family were very professional and pleasant to work with. More importantly, the food was incredible. I had folks from all over the East Coast come to celebrate our special day and several of them came up to me to specifically express how delicious they thought the catered meal from Chaney's catering was. Mr. Chaney was attentive, thoughtful, and professional. The food was plentiful and delicious. The pork was moist and tasty and the chicken was out of this world. Because it has been over a year and a half ago, I cannot remember the sides that we decided upon but they were all incredible. I would definitely give this family-run business a shot because they really do go the extra mile and your guests will be satisfied with the delicious food that they prepare. Great experience all around!

I have also attended many functions throughout Southport where they provided the catering. I am writing this review specifically to praise Adam and his team for their incredible work catering my niece's wedding this past May at the River Hotel in Southport. This was a challenging venue with no kitchen, requiring all food to be served from a catering van under a tent. Adam was an absolute dream to work with. Despite the lack of a formal wedding coordinator, he managed a group of demanding voices with ease and professionalism. His confidence allowed those of us in the planning stages to relax, knowing he was truly in charge. The food was, as always, excellent, but I want to highlight how dependable Adam was in executing such a complex event. He was always available during the planning process and stayed on-site throughout the evening. He even saved the day when the rental vendor failed to deliver plates and spoons for the wedding cake--Adam stepped in with his own supplies at the last minute. His contagious joy and dedication made him an absolute pleasure to work with, and he was a major part of what made this such a memorable evening. I highly recommend his services for any event.

My husband had shepherd's pie which he loved and I had the spinach ravioli in a cream sauce on a bed of spinach. Just enough sauce and very filling and delicious. We also tried the gourmet chicken salad for lunch that was great. We met the chef and staff who were all very sweet, knowledgeable and clearly talented! Try it you'll like it!

Our first time dining at Michael's Seafood Restaurant. Only our second time to Carolina Beach. The…read morewait wasn't too bad, about 30 - 40 minutes. Once seated though things moved pretty fast. Our waiter Noah T was very attentive, answered our questions and we were off and running. We chose a couple of appetizers; a bowl of Chowder (only because of the raves from fellow Yelpers) and the Athenian Bruschetta. Both were very good but my expectant bubble was burst as it wasn't "the best I have had" as many of the Yelpers had described it. The Athenian Bruschetta though was A-amazing. For Entree I had the stuffed Flounder and Norma had Shrimp and Scallop Scampi. Both were very delicious. Atmosphere was nice, a bit crowded, as you would expect where the food is really good. Tables were tight. Hard to navigate with Norma's wheelchair, but we made it through. Large helpings, took tomorrow's lunch back to the hotel. A definite come back to place.

That said, despite the place seeming to be very popular, I'd never actually visited for a meal - until my most recent visit, that is. I was visiting my grandmother and we finished a nearby game of miniature golf around 4:15pm, so we decided to head over to Michael's for an early dinner (I was going to bed early that night anyway, since I had to drive to Raleigh the next day for my flight out of RDU). She'd been raving about the dressing available at this place (they're known for a champagne vinaigrette, apparently?). I'd been eating light in Carolina Beach (having come from Houston, which made me feel like I was 95% brisket by the time I left), so I was looking forward to the roasted beet salad that she told me was on the menu of this place. We got to the restaurant and were seated right away (perfect timing, honestly, since the place started to fill up not that long after we arrived). I ordered the strawberry lemonade to drink, a cup of the seafood chowder, and the roasted beet salad (minus bleu cheese). It wasn't long before our order arrived at the table. The seafood chowder was decent, though nothing I would particularly order again or think especially notable. The beet salad was the same. I was actually expecting a different texture from the beets... they seemed more mushy than anything, and didn't have that "roasted" flavor I was expecting. The salad dressing that my grandmother had been raving about didn't really hit the mark for me either. It lacked flavor, and almost seemed overly diluted. Ultimately, I'm giving Michael's a 3/5 because our server was attentive and I enjoyed the general vibe of the place. I can understand why it's an easy place to grab a bit on Carolina Beach; that said, would I bother visiting Michael's Seafood again on a follow-up trip to CB? No, there are plenty of other options.
