This is just like Bands on the Beach, without the hassle of traffic and the Casino Beach parking lot dysfunction. I mean, seriously, WTF is up with that clown car?
(I've had this draft pending for about a half a year, so I'll admit that Bands on the Blackwater isn't "just like" Bands on the Beach...but close enough for gratuitous blather from a random moron on the intarwebs.)
Great bands, a surprisingly good sound system, large crowds of well-behaved folks, fun, frivolity, food, and an opportunity to drink in public in the heart of Puritanical Milton. If you pass up the chance to do that, yer doin' it wrong. Or you grew up somewhere Baptist fascists didn't rue the having of fun. Whichever. Thirty years ago, Miltonites would have rolled their collective eyeballs at the thought of such a blatant display of comaraderie and revelry.
Bring your own chair or blanket, relax, and listen. You'll have fun and meet people. If you get bored, you can amble over to the Vietnam War memorial and check that out. You can stroll to Doc's Courtyard Cafe and eat something delicious and have a drink or eight. Or you could hop onto the Riverwalk, pass under the river bridge, and grab a bite at the froyo place or at Boomerang's pizza. Milton isn't the ghost town after dark that it used to be.
When the weather warms up, plot a course for Bands on Blackwater. There's no good reason to not support local activities and businesses. read more
