All I can say is that this is a beautiful, peaceful area that is well maintained by local park/county officials. They've built a modern bathroom that is kept clean (when open) as well. There are no trails here--just several picnic tables, grills, playground equipment, stone tables, and a boat ramp. It's a good place to pack a lunch, watch the boats coming and going and observe the animals.

I have been to this park several times with my wife to cook out and fish. The fishing is not awesome or anything however it is very relaxing and fun to get outside. The area is always clean and the charcoal grills are usually always cleaned and ready for use. There is a playground area with swings and a multi purpose jungle gym. There have been as few as one other car load of folks to very populated. Even when loaded with folks, you can find a table and grill area open. There is a covered section with tables. I have seen birthday parties on multiple occasions. There is ample parking for the size of the area. I have posted some photos of the area so be sure to have a look. It really is a great place to get away to and have a picnic if you plan on grilling out or bringing sandwiches.

The trails were well maintained and marked with benches at several points to take a rest. We saw plenty of dogs and friendly people on the trails. Definitely would recommend closed-toed shoes and a filled water bottle as the drinking fountains at the Center were not working.

Fingerling bass line the shore line and 1-3 pounders were seen in the water everywhere. The trails take you up along the ridges and other areas walk you along the dam and lakeshore. We have so many happy memories here. There are multiple tables, grills, trash bins and shelters around the park for everyone to enjoy a picnic. They have a huge shelter available to rent with a kitchen for bigger parties or weddings. A nice doc with benches to fish from and a long sidewalk along the water. Its clean, super shady and well kept. Convenient bathrooms, volley ball net, playground and more. I can't say enough good things about the place. Go yourself and enjoy!

It's out in Hendersonville on Old Hickory Lake, and it has a handful of pavilions (five I think) as well as several picnic tables. There is a boat ramp at Rockland, and a lot of people fish or launch their boats from the area. I've been to a handful of picnics and large, organized "get-togethers" (as my family calls them) at Rockland. There is plenty of room for the little ones to run around or for a game of football or frisbee. Rockland has a pretty nice view of the lake, and it's right beside the Old Hickory Dam. There's a great stretch of shore near the dam that makes for some of the best fishing in the area, and it's a lovely place to just take a walk or enjoy the scenery. Not my favorite park in the greater Nashville area, but possibly my favorite in Hendersonville.

We started at McCabe Park trailhead (4911 McCabe Park Dr, Nashville, TN 37205); there is a golf course there as well. Following the trails and walking by the Richland Creek (which is a stream on the west side of Nashville, Tennessee, formed by nine tributaries flowing north to the Cumberland River) is just beautiful, immersed completely in nature and green. Expect people with dogs, on bikes, skates, you name it, on the trail. It's pretty popular! If you want to ensure you remain in the greenway trail watch out for the green stumps. the "green stumps" are a well-known marker along the Richland Creek Greenway in Nashville. They're part of a trail maintenance/landscape feature: green-painted wooden posts (stumps) along the path used as visual markers to help walkers and bikers stay on the trail, especially near forks or trailheads The trail actually features a loop around McCabe Park/Golf Course and sections following the creek and old railroad tracks, connecting Sylvan Park to shopping areas and offering history like Dutchman's Curve. Parking available at the McCabe Trailhead near the golf course clubhouse. It's total 4.1 miles. The Richland Creek Greenway at McCabe Park crisscrosses the creek several times as it encircles the McCabe Golf Course. This greenway features several neighborhood accesses, the McCabe Community Center and baseball fields, and greenway connectors to nearby shopping centers. Nashville State Community College and Tennessee College of Applied Technology campuses also enjoy direct access to this popular suburban greenway treasure.

Six months ago, I discovered this place as a nice getaway with a place to take my little one and experience sand. His first steps on a "beach" were taken here. The sand is clean and free of shells or debris. There are several picnic areas with tables scattered along the water and some with shade provided by the trees. When they reopen, you can get a tour inside to see how the dam was built and works. We didn't get to do that yet. It was a spontaneous trip and later in the day, so next time. On the grounds, they do have a few historic parts displayed such as the retired lock (see photo). It was really neat to see. They have a covered pavilion where you can gather to eat at the picnic tables with family and friends. As the weather is warm today, I thought of this place. Unfortunately, this time we are in dealing with the world pandemic and social distancing ... we have to wait. Everything we saw appeared clean and everywhere was open, but it wasn't crowded since school had started already. So, add this to your list of places to check out. Today's high of 80 degrees would be the perfect day to go! :-(
