This land was originally the home of the iron industry of middle Tennessee, and the park is named after an iron industry titan, Montgomery Bell himself. It has a lodge, a golf course, 20 miles of mountain bike trails, over 80 RV sites, 22 tent sites, 20 miles of hiking trails, eight premium cabins, three lakes, a swimming pool, boating, and a beach. The website has tickets to guided hikes and kayak tours. Fishing is allowed on property, and annual events include Special Needs Ranger events, 5ks and other runs, and several golf tournaments. It was built and established under the New Deal in connection with the federal government. Trails include the Baker Cemetery Trail loop (.95 mile), the Creech Hollow Trail (1.25 miles), the Jim Bailey Nature Trail loop (.60 mile), the Montgomery Bell Trail loop (10.25 miles), the Ore Pit Trail loop (1.5 miles), and the Spillway Trail Wildcat Trail (0.55 mil). I have a lot of memories of Montgomery Bell National Park, and in particular one swimming area that my family went to a lot when I was a kid. I was surprised to pull in, and realize that the park is insanely bigger than I originally thought. At over 3,700 acres, I must've only really seen maybe 100 acres, and the same 100 acres over and over as a kid. I was super excited to explore more, to realize I had 0% cellular signal. Luckily, the park store had a map available. There's still a ton to do, and it's just in my backyard, so I'll be back.

The park is a absolutely the best State Park that we have every stayed at in TN. The Park is definitely the "Queen of the state parks" as stated on the website. We had a great camper site with all the comforts of home. Backing in was a breeze and the creek that ran along the camp site was a giant bonus. The pups loved the walking areas and we walked in the creek. Since we have older pups we didn't get to see all the other areas we wanted, but what a great day trip from Nashville. I would be remiss not to mention that I called in advance to get directions. I was told once I exited 182 to turn off my GPS and just take highway 96 to Dickson then right on route 70 and the entrance was 2.2 miles on the right. The gentleman who provided me the information was extremely patient and friendly. If I would have listened to the GPS I would have ended up on route 46 which with my 10 foot 4 inch camper would have been wedge under a notorious low bridge. My thanks to that gentleman who steered me away from that fate of hitting that bridge and ridding my anxiety of the unknown. Awesome internet connectivity and full hook ups. The check in experience was also great and we bought 2 bundles of wood. We realized once unpacked that we had forgotten to get ice so I walked back to the check in spot at about 6pm and they were open so I was able to get ice! The site was clean and lighting bugs were out for a perfect night. We will be back as soon as possible!!!

Nice little place to take a hike and explore to get away from all the craziness going on. A friend and i picnicked here and decided to take a hike and walk around the creek for a while. Super fun area to be at!

We will be going back with the whole family. The rooms where good sized, loved the lake view from the patio, love that fishing was available right out side. Tons of hiking, nice indoor pool (outdoor pool was still closed) the buffet was good standard buffet food at a reasonable price. The beds and pillows where not the best but ok for a night or two. I'm excited to go back over the summer months. However, I do wish they had some pet friendly rooms.

We stopped at Montgomery Bell State Park on Wednesday April 16, 2014..We had a great cookout there and it was so cold. Too cold but it was still a good time..this weekend was really really strange...but for middle April...weird. We cookout near the creek side and the kids played in the playground. Everyone had a really great time..

This park is nice and has a lot of amenities. Sand volleyball, basketball, baseball, tennis, golf etc. the campground is nice but pretty tight quarters. Sites are pretty close and tight quarters for maneuvering. A lot of small sites that will not accommodate larger rigs but the reservation site had adequate information so we could determine which sites we would fit in.

This place is usually great with a restaurant on site and good service. Right now, it is undergoing renovations and looks like a war zone. They did not disclose that they were under renovations or that the restaurant was closed when we called to book the room. When we saw online that the restaurant was closed and tried to cancel, they said they would still charge us for the room. When we got there, the place was totally gutted and uninhabitable! They still wanted to charge us $168 to stay there. Our "room" had no furniture, door, or bathroom fixtures! It was full of construction trash on the floor. I demanded my money back.

@ spill way Just sit here listening the sound of water!

Review for knobs campground Laverne Tennessee…read more I drove up to Tennessee to work for a couple weeks. I made a weeklong reservation at Poole Knobs campground. They only had one site available for all week so I felt really lucky to get the last one. When I arrived I realized just how lucky I really was. I saw on the USACE website that they had a family of nesting Bald Eagles in the park. They said they had closed several sites to give the Eagles some space. Did you know that if you disturb a Bald or Golden Eagle in any way at all it's $100,000 fine and a year in prison and that's for your FIRST OFFENSE!! I don't even know anybody who can afford $100,000 fine. So I'm staying away from those birds. First day I was here it was OK; I got my tent set up by myself and got things straightened out. I started a little fire but went to bed early. I was pooped The next day (Saturday) I looked at the weather and saw there was a big storm coming in. Oh great. I go to co ER my tent and wouldn't you know it; I had forgotten the top of my tent. I don't know how I did that because I rolled it up last and I always try to roll the top in with the rest of the tent. I had my hammock tarp, poles and a lot of rope in the car so I decided to rig something up. Come out OK and later when the rain started I was pretty pleased to see I didn't have any kind of leaks or blowing or anything like that. I checked the weather this morning; we have thunderstorms both daytime and night time all the way through Thursday afternoon. Friday is supposed to be nice and sunny about 80°. Guess what I'm checking out on Friday. How about that? Anyway the campground is really nice. The sites are pretty private they're not all on top of each other. There are a lot of pull through sites with full hookups. They also have nice tent sites. There is plenty of shade too. Nice on these scorching hot Tennessee summers. This morning I got up at 5:15 AM as usual when every bird in the county started to sing. I don't know how they all know when to start but they do. It's 5:15 AM. I went ahead and got up. Might as well, I was awake by then. I walked over to the fence to look for the Eagles and tried to find their nest. They camp host had told me if I stand by the sign then I'd probably be able to see them. But wouldn't you know it, there are two signs. I tried one and looked and looked but didn't see anything. I went to the other. I looked and looked here too but didn't see anything. The trees are so full of leaves that you really can't see a nest, even though it as big as a bed. Luckily one of the Eagles spread his wings and flapped a couple of times so I saw where the nest is. I couldn't really see the Eagles or the nest but at least I know where it is. I'm going to add a couple photos the Rangers took and shared. Saturday night a big storm blew in and I'll tell you, it scared the pants off me. I have all these big trees over my tent and I was afraid a limb would come down and smash my head. So my chicken butt got in my truck and drove down to the boat ramp parking area. No trees around there to kill me. I sat there for a little while and watched the boats hurrying off the lake. The wind was fierce and the lake was very choppy. A really nice ski boats came up and had to wait for their turn for the ramp. Before long the big waves washed over the back of that nice boat and sunk it. Right there beside the ramp. I called the camp host and told her and she called the TWRA Rangers. Before long a big big boat with 1000 humongous lights all over it came across the lake up to the sunken boat. You never see lights like that on a personal craft. I would not have wanted to be out on that lake in any kind of boat. Two TWRA pick-up trucks also came into the parking lot and went down to help. The big boat maneuvered the sunken boat over to where the trailer was. They got it up on the trailer and then the TWRA pick-up towed their truck and trailer out of the water. I'm guessing being full of water made it too heavy to pull out with one truck. The TWRA truck pulled them out far enough to open the drain and they were finally able to drive away. I was really proud of those TWRA rangers for coming out in that storm to help those people. The wind was raging and it was pouring buckets and there was crazy lightning all around. They are heroes to me. Anyway back to Poole Knobs campground. I can't say enough good things about this place. They have beautiful sites, really nice bath houses with hot running showers and friendly hosts. A lot of the sites sit right on the lake. I hear it is a great place to fish from the bank. If you're looking to camp in this area (near Nashville) you can't really beat this one. But like most great places you'll need to get your reservations in as early as you can.

The only minus here is RV campers aren't allowed to use the bathrooms since cabins do not have one and the bathrooms are exclusively allocated to cabin customers. That definitely is a deterrent since the idea of an RV spot is also to pay and use shower/bath services.
