The hotel's history is long and complex, spanning about nine hundred years, with highlights including a stint as the Royal Cemetery and a concentration camp during the Spanish Civil War. There are plaques throughout the hotel, as is appropriate for a major historical landmark. My room was large, well-appointed, came with chocolate and looked out over a beautiful garden maze. The restaurant is highly regarded and looks like something out of Beauty and the Beast, although I found the food somewhat oversalted. Breakfast is appropriately high quality and offers a huge range of options. Including kiwi juice. I've never been offered kiwi juice before. The bar is located in a spacious room with massively high barrel-vaulted ceilings, and after a drink or two you can go across the hall and sit in almost perfect isolation in the former cloiser refectory under a truly stunning 16th century carved ceiling. There was a wedding going on while I was there. It is a dream location for such an event and the wedding party seemed to be having a fantastic time. Returning for more than a one-night stay will be a goal of mine!

I stay usually in US owned hotels only because they are the only ones that actually "get" air conditioning. We stayed two nights here in June and they were the hottest nights I have ever had in a hotel. We both sweat all night. Got zero sleep. The air conditioners they have are pitiful and a total waste. If you like sleeping in a sauna make your reservations here! If you like sleeping cool pass it up. The lowest the AC is allows to go here is 20.5 or about 70 degrees. But ours never made it past 22.5. EVER. No matter what. You might as well camp out. I would never stay here again

We stayed here for one night, not even enough for one night/day. We got to our hotel, went on a walking tour, came back, got ready for supper, then went to bed. Had breakfast there, too! So basically, not much to say, when that's all we did here. I could say: there are various fresh juices - and I get to taste 2 new exotic fruits! The dinner, my husband picked (he wasn't quite happy with his). This is the part where the same persons on the same table, got their orders mixed up. She wanted hers. I wanted mine. We compromised: we shared half/half, so we can taste what each had. They would give her another order, but none left.
