Came back here after three years. Back then it was extremely windy and we didn't make it as fas as we planned. It was pretty bad with the wind blasting sand in our faces...but way worse for our dog. So we couldn't spend too long.
This time around it was way less windy. The beach is pretty as ever, if you've never been up in the very North you wouldn't expect a beach like this is Scotland. But there are many many pretty beaches, giving many caribbean beaches a run for their money (the water and climate being a wee bit colder here though).
We walked along the beach for a good while. We caught it on low tide, so we were able to keep on walking on the beach around the rock formations and to the point where to Dunes are. It was really nice to explore all the hidden rocks, small caves and entrances at low tide. The tide comes back slowly...so there's enough time. Even so you still could go back up to the trail to walk back.
Even though summer there were few visitors. And most didn't walk that far...so it really feels like you almost have the beach to yourself. A real nice place to spend an afternoon at. Don't miss out on the church as well before or after your visit. read more
