We love visiting Ballyhoo, but most of the time order it to go. We always seem to get 'Ash' on the rare occasion we sit in. She's always miserable and makes the time unenjoyable. Don't make your customers feel like a burden. And she always puts two napkins in the center of the table even though there are clearly more than two people. You have to get more on your own. Definitely don't ask any questions bc she will be snippy and unhelpful. It's upsetting that they keep someone like this around when it's such a cute, fun place. It's a place you want to being friends/family to, but are embarassed when the service isn't good. She would make more $ in tips if she lost the attitude. The candy counter is great and you can even order candy online to pickup in store. The only thing I would change about the ice cream is the whipped topping used on sundae's, etc. It might be to fit the vintage vibe, but I don't think it tastes good and it always upsets my stomach. I'm someone who loves whipped cream, but not this type. Definitely go for the candy, the cute interior and vintage vibe. read more

I don't recommend their soft serve ice cream. I got a small twist in a cup and it was very very small for the price. Also, the vanilla tasted sour. My husband got a vanilla blended with sprinkles, but there was hardly any sprinkles in it, and it also tasted sour. This place is amazing!!! The ice cream is the best I have had in a while and the homemade waffle cones are a must get! During Covid, all the staff wear masks and gloves and never take them off. The staff were friendly and quick to get anything else you needed. The portions are large for the price and flavors taste exactly like you want them to. The pumpkin ice cream is one of the best flavors and tastes exactly like real, fresh pumpkin. The best part is that some flavors of ice cream ice cream are available in the summer before other ice cream shops have it in stock (including pumpkin which you normally can only get in the fall). What a great little surprise in a small town close to home. Decor takes you back in time along with the servers. Simple menu of ice cream, milkshakes, and sodas to choose from. Prices are reasonable. There's a new cow in TheValley and it's spectacular! Located two blocks off the Water Street bridge in West Pittston is a nostalgic ice cream shop with an olde-tyme candy counter. There are many things to notice when you first walk-in to the shop -- the large cow in the window, the tall & heavy entrance door, the old wood floor, the aroma of waffle cones, the sight of candies from your childhood, but the thing that I noticed first and totally took me back "to the day" was the soft, blues-y, orchestra music from back in the 20s and 30s. That sound just made me want to sit down and chill a bit. Their ice cream is from Lieby's of Tamaqua. So, the proprietors of Ballyhoo know good ice cream. Supposedly, Ballyhoo has intentions of producing their own ice cream when after they expand into the space next door. That fix-out is under way. I wish them all the best!!! read more

What a fun place to find when you are in the Poconos with nothing to do because of the pandemic. We were staying 40 minutes away but when I read previous reviews I thought my grandkids would have a good time here and we all certainly did. I am lactose intolerant but they had delicious vegan ice cream and was able to enjoy a banana split which made me very happy. The kids had children's sundaes with gummy bears and other toppings, my husband and daughter also had sundaes, the prices are very affordable, then the fun began in the candy store, they have all kinds of old fashioned sweets, different flavors of sodas in bottles and toys that make you smile and feel like a kid in a "candy store " well I guess I had so much fun that I spent over $140.00 for my five grandkids to enjoy at Thanksgiving. This is one of the best ice cream locations in the area. The kids love both the ice cream and the candy. It is set up like an old time soda shop. The selection of ice cream flavors and candy choices is very large. They also make homemade apple cider in the fall and homemade hot chocolate in the winter. One of my favorite times to come is when they are making their homemade waffle cones. The aroma is wonderful. My personal favorite sundae is the troublemaker. I make it with lots of chocolate and peanut butter. My kids love the children's sundae menu. I highly recommend this store! read more
