This review is for the swimming pool only…read more Ok so first off, you buy a swim but then you can only swim for 45 minutes, as they close the pool on the hour for cleaning. As it's not a full-size pool, there's only one lane for swimming, the rest is for kids. The water was a little too warm for my liking. This is certainly a no-frills place and the facilities were all a bit worn and tired. Not an enjoyable swim and the timings really put me off. And finally, once again, a pool that has no hairdryers and/or plugs for your own hair dryer.

Two fire exit doors can be used to let fresh air in very efficiently. Floor would be better, if management would clean it more often. Now it's dusty as antique store shelves... Put basketball aside. There's gym, swimming pool, sauna and a big pub upstairs with pool table. It's gas! Changing rooms a spacious, divided into dry and wet. There're perhaps five normal showers and two cold water for after-sauna. Pub is great! They do mid-strength bulmers (2.3%). Great for driving people. They do have boxing tournaments for both men and women. Almost forgot - tennis courts! Beware, quite expensive to rent. Perhaps, if there's a membership, maybe you don't pay, but otherwise it's like €15/h (if not mistaking).

Upstairs is the increasingly grubby Crunch Fitness, which does have low gym fees. The main areas on the ground floor are used by the various clubs for everything from fencing to wallclimbing to trampolening (always fun to watch when you're working out) and the facilities are quite cheap for students and staff although the price does go up for outsiders. There are also various squash and badminton courts in the building as well as changing rooms, lockers, showers and a sauna... Like the others said there's no pool yet, but there will soon be (well in several years) in an adjacent building. Outside the building are an array of all-weather pitches which are also put to good use - these are run by the sports centre

Tying the figure eight knot. Belaying and learning lovely terms such as life rope and death rope. I'm not going to lie it was pretty knicker pissing stuff to climb to the top of the wall, I fell once and dangled like a crab but as I'm stubborn off I went again. I really am hooked to the rush now. As I am not a member of UCD nor a past student I can opt to pay €8 each time I go and €3 rental for the harness which I think is pretty decent as my schedule is all over the place and it allows me to see if I would rather buy membership, also €11 would go in a flash in a pub... The only way the Irish can verify good value. My issues were: 1. You have to pay the fee in person in cash which really is a nightmare and rather worrying that a place of higher education hasn't caught up to with modern payment options i.e the internet. 2. They really should say that you should come with a friend, not that my group weren't friendly. The issue is it's really a two person sport and even though or teacher said you could just rock up and ask to join someone, I dunno especially if you are a beginner like me.

Came here and did a little mini circuit of the entire place. Started off, reliving our childhood memories playing Tekken III, they must be the only arcade in Dublin that stocks this classic! Swiftly moved onto the pool where I got my ass handed to me, guess I can't really blame them for that one. Soon after we moved onto the main event, the creme de la creme, the bowling. Overall the place was suitably busy, had a nice crowd and also incredibly clean, something thats hard to come by in bowling alleys these days. We even topped off the day with some food which tasted damn good. If you're hosting a kids birthday party in the area, this is surely the only place to do it, kids are guaranteed to have a blast. For the adults, what better way let off some steam waiting for the kids then to kill a few zombies or lash a few bowling balls?

Each member can meet with a trainer to devise a programme, they are on point with this and will listen to what you best enjoy doing and the type of routines that might work. I'm not such a fan of cardio work but have always enjoyed resistance style workouts which the trainer, Conor took on board and I'm enjoying the blend he put together and he made resistance training core of my programme. I've tried both the zumba and the kettlebells class so far, man they work you good. Loved both and plan on becoming a regular at the kettlebells. There are always instructors about, they are approachable and are always happy to help or tweak your technique. The facilities are top notch, changing rooms are clean and spacious. Great blow dry bar area/dressing table space plus available is a sauna jacuzzi and swimming pool so I know it appears a little pricey for some but when you take into consideration the standard of the gym equipment and quality of the facilities, if you workout regularly then this is the place to be. Oh plus nice to know, they have a salon which is open gym hours and they run great Mon-Wed special offers!

Cleaning staff should be changed, they chat too much. Polish employee flirts with customers, is also insolent, arrogant type. Recently changed new tiles are already dirty, full of dump, etc. Changing rooms dusty and dirty as well. Looks like no one cares about deep cleaning, scrubbing, bleaching process. That need to be done after closing the centre every day for safety reasons and without people on the site. Dear customers, please use flip flops all time and don't seat on anything without own towel - this message is specially addressed to all ladies/girls so important. And cost of memberships are definitely too high, does not cover the basic requirements of such a centre. Changes, changes, more changes !!!!

Westwood gym asks (approximately) €600 per year + membership joining fee of €100 (used to be back in 2011). Where Northwood was €250 per year + 2 or 4 months for free. Northwood gave us small towels and their branded sports bags. Isn't that grate? Yes it is (I should stop talking to myself) :) ! This gym is quite newly built. Very spacious. Guess what? No kids, well, very little if none. We were in Total Fitness once and my missus was shocked... Loads of kids of six seven years old with bloody mommies in the ladies changing rooms... Kill me now :) Gyms has lots of stuff: more than basic equipment, various classes, men and women have separate "warm up" areas with different equipment, two saunas, two steam rooms, 25 meter pool, jacuzzis (lying and sitting). I'll be going there when possible!

Having been at the Jervis St branch of Ben Dunne's gyms I find these one to be way better…read more The staff are the same type, and the equipment may be a little older but the selection of equipment you have to choose your torture from far out weighs Jervis. Yes there are all the same weight lifting stuff if you are in to that sort of thing, but there are more types of cross trainers, muscle builders and the likes. There are classes in Aerobics, Abs, Pilates, etc held in there 2 studios.... And they are all FREE! And for the best part, after you have killed all your muscles you can then proceed to the Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and swimming pool. I don't go near swimming pools but it looks pretty ordered if you want to swim in lanes or just random paddling. Jervis has all you need for a gym workout but Northwood is far superior with the added bonuses.

Best thing that gives the edge over other places is access to tennis courts as well as loads of good and free classes. Never seems too busy either so you can always do what you need to! The place is clean, it has the gym with a 200 metres track, equipment to do weights, basketball, badminton, and many other activities pitch. Swimming lessons, aqua aerobics and so on. This place will be definitely the best of what you could get in Dublin 15 (even with the NAC being in the area). The Sports are not well supported in this country, and it is a pity that all people see is the money aspect of the disciplines. There should be more support from the government to create better athletes and a healthier society. The prices to join the Crunch are the same as anywhere else if you compare here you will get value for your money, you might get cheaper places but you will end up paying more because the place is not clean or the service is bad as well as the facilities you will get won't be the same. Nothing will be perfect all the time, of course something will go wrong someday, like water being cold or a power cut, but every time something happened I was well looked after. A family place for excellence, here kids are aloud and there is activities for them as well, the time is restricted which is ok. I really recommend it if you have children, go there and have a look, the staff will show you around all the facilities.
