This beautiful, old school café seems to have been intended to cash in on Julio Cortázar's name. It has a number of pictures of him on the walls, as well as framed renderings of some of his well-known quotes. A number of randomly chosen items on the menu were named for Cortázar as well, but that's as far as it goes - this place completely fails to be a literary themed bar. To be fair, the service staff is nice enough, though we found the wait for snacks and drinks to be quite long given the relative emptiness when we were there. The prices are acceptable as well. That said, with a name like Cafe Cortazar, this place should do more toward paying homage to a well-respected literary figure, rather than just displaying decorative items "inspired" by the great man.

The sandwich was delicious and while I would certainly not classify the bread as a "bagel" it was a more appropriate texture for the sandwich than a bagel would have been. Only reason it's not 5 stars is because it was uncomfortably hot inside. I do also wish there were at least a few comfy chairs but I prefer to sip my coffee in a cozy environment as opposed to metal chairs.
This place is such a good find in Buenos Aires. The scones are some of the best we've had. The…read moreavocado toast is also very good. Their pastries are good however since we arrived a bit later, there were a few items remaining and most had sold out. Really recommend this place, one thing to note is that service is a bit slow however. This is standard in BA but just wanted to note.

I visited with my brother, his girlfriend, and his cute dog. We sat outside on a Sunday afternoon, but the sun wasn't strong and our waitress brought our dog a little plastic dish with water. He was happy as could be. My brother ordered some beer and I ordered their mint and ginger lemonade. The pitcher is the way to go, because it comes with a good 2-3 glasses. I wasn't sure what to order, but the table next to us had their food come out and it looked great. The presentation of the dishes here is good. I ended up getting a ham and cheese sandwich, my brother ordered the supreme burger, and his girlfriend ordered a pizza. Everyone was happy with the food, but if I did have any critique it would be with the fries. My brother received 5 fries and I think I had 6 fries on my plate. Seemed a tad bit skimpy on the fries, especially since they were pretty good. This place takes credit cards which is nice since it is not cheap, but considering the quality and service I would say is fair. I would love to come back on my next visit to BA. Do yourself a favor and try the mint and ginger lemonade. It was real good!

They have quite an assortment of pastries - many of them made with the puff pastry or croissant dough, pastry cream and quince paste. They also have the standard lard or fat based croissants that they call medialunas and quite a few promotions combining coffee, juice and two or three pastries. It's nearly impossible to find brewed decaf coffee or ground decaf coffee anywhere in Argentina. When you order decaf they basically give you a watered-down version of regular coffee and it is both disgustingly lacking in flavor and still quite high in caffeine which is not good for those of us who can't tolerate it. You're better off bringing some Nescafé powder decaf and ordering hot milk to which you add the decaf powder. We only had coffee and pastries so we can't speak to any of the other food but others were ordering sandwiches and salads and they all looked decent. The staff is very friendly and it's a nice little getaway for a late morning or early lunch snack.

We loved this place!…read more Super pleasant outdoor area, really really kind and attentive staff, and delicious food-- both American and Argentine style! I got a medialuna tostada which I think was meant to come with lomo but was still delicious with ham and cheese. My husband got French toast , and then we each got a foamy delicious latte and a couple items from the bakery to try. The peanut flour alfajor was AWESOME and so was the coconut dulce de leche bar.
