Have you ever had a business that just made you smile?
That's how I feel about Balanced Harvest Farm, a cut flower, vegetable & herb farm located in Needham, Shelby County, Indiana that has been a regular presence at the Statehouse Market in downtown Indianapolis this season and has really made me smile every single time I see their remarkable flowers, amazing sunflowers, and a warm and hospitable employee who is always present, helpful, and radiates just about as much as her sunflowers.
Man, that was a corny line.
It's true, though.
Balanced Harvest Farm uses growing methods that are a sustainable way of producing cut flowers, vegetables and herbs. They care about the effect of their actions and farm inputs on the soil, the water, the products produced, the community and the environment as a whole.
Their presence at Statehouse Market seems mostly marked by stunningly beautiful sunflowers (admittedly, I love sunflowers). They sell by the stem, bouquet, jar arrangements, and more. Arrangements are simple yet nicely done and I simply haven't been able to check out their display without smiling.
Balanced Harvest has reasonable and fair prices, especially for a farmer's market, and it's so much fun to see people going directly to them. It seems clear that the Statehouse Market has fallen in love with Balanced Harvest.
While they are based in Shelby County, they have a strong Indy presence and I've seen them steadily at Statehouse Market this year. They've also been at Fort Ben Farmer's Market (also close to my home).
Balanced Harvest is having a pretty awesome impact on the Indiana Government Center. It's not uncommon now to see their flowers, bouquets, or arrangements on desks or in cubicles. It took me a while to realize they carry flowers other than sunflowers - I'm admittedly drawn to the sunflowers but they have great arrangements and options and the flowers look healthy and absolutely beautiful.
Balanced Harvest Farm is yet another reason to stop by Indy's Statehouse Market on Thursdays from 10:30am - 1:30pm. Amazing vendors and lots of beautiful flowers from Balanced Harvest. read more
