What had prior to 2021 been the abandoned Nashville Convention Center is now a modern mixed use development that has brought life into Broadway west of the "Honkey Tonk Highway" stretch. It features a shopping mall, Assembly Food Hall, a retail scape fronting Broadway, The Place at Fifth, the National Museum of African American Music, and the towering landmark 501 Commerce Street Building. It has brought an Apple Store, Sephora, Shake Shack, Hattie B's, Prince's Chicken, and more to Broadway. On my vacation, I had caught it's act several times. The one sight that always stood out was the consistent long line to Hattie B's. My visits here included Assembly Food Hall, Prince's Fried Chicken, the Twelve Thirty Club, visit the Apple Store, and walk around. My impression was that the stores and restaurants are reasonably priced. Although the restaurants and stores provide decent value, to me the greatest value here was the photo opportunities. The focal point of the development, the L-shaped mall which bridges Broadway with Rep. John Lewis Way gives the gift of a prime photo spot for the 1) Ryman Auditorium where the original Grand Ol Opry performed and 2) Bridgestone Arena. The restaurants, especially in the Assembly Hall provide an opportunity to photograph food. I recommend the Assembly Food Hall Bridge to photograp the historic Ryman Auditorium. Additionally , I learned that if I stood on Broadway by the Bridgestone Arena, that Fifth Plus Broadway made a dynamic photo showing modern and historic Broadway, with the modern Fifth Plus Broadway architecture including towers contrasting with the historic Honkey Tonk Highway streetscape. As far as safety, I felt safe. The one annoyance that I saw were street hustlers at the Rep. John Lewis Way entrance aggressively bothering passer-by. During all of my visits here it was busy. There is a safety in numbers. On the subject of safety, the hot and humid summers need to be taken into account. On a few occasions we had escaped the excruciating heat in the air conditioned Assembly Food Hall for a couple of hours. I rate Fifth Plus Broadway "Four Stars." It is doing a remarkable job extending the lively Broadway restaurant and entertainment scene beyond the western edge of the Honkey Tonk Highway.

In many ways it seems like an outlet mall - with 50-70% off sales. There are some pretty high end stores here, too. From what I read, The Arcade was a popular shopping destination back in the day, and was one of the first (if not *the* first) shopping center to open in the city. Walking through now, however, I didn't see much - a lot of the stores are closed, and I saw several offices or businesses that wouldn't attract a crowd. The one point of interest that stood out to me was the Walgreens which had a vintage neon sign. Did I come at the wrong time? Are there other things here that I'm not aware of? From what I saw, no. I did, however, see construction in several of the storefronts, so hopefully there is more to come. For now, though, I would skip this.

The blocks occupied feel like its own little community in the middle of the bigger city. It definitely has it's own vibe and is uniquely East Nashville. When we are in East, we normally make it point to stop in a shop or two. International Coffee, Galena Garlic and Adobe Mercantile are usually spots we frequent when wandering around, and Gift Horse is a cool place for a quirky or local gift for folks. Food wise, Maru and East Creamery are always on point and hit the spot! Hours of each shop differ, so make sure you look specifically at the hours of the places you want to visit. There is no real consistency amongst the shops from an overall hours perspective, which can be a tad frustrating. Parking is a bit wonky as well, nothing really dedicated at all times. There are a few pay lots nearby and street parking is plentiful in the area. Overall, Shoppes on Fatherland is a cool East community and is a good spot to spend a little time when you have nothing going on. It's always an after or before dinner/drink place for us.

Retail stores, restaurants, hair and nail salon and phone repairs. A lot of parking spaces for the extra busy days, though we haven't seen those since 2019, unfortunately. The one thing I strongly dislike is the main road through the property is littered with potholes. Not little ones, big potholes. You may need to kick your truck or jeep into 4 wheel drive to get through. The last time I drove on a road so treacherous was when I was offroading through the high deserts of California. :) I hope one day they can fix the road.

Even big brands like MK, Coach, American Eagle, Swarovski, Adidas, Nike all of them have such small stores. I have never seen been to any outlet with such tiny stores with limited products. But there were good deals on prices and discounts, some places up to 60%. Many of store spaces were also empty and doors were covered with brown paper. We salvaged our trip at Express, we found couple of items we liked that were on sale.

One point of confusion is the parking. It's technically free, but you have to register inside to get a voucher after scanning a QR code posted outside. A good amount of stuff going on in here: you can find clothing (more on the conservativ/athleisure wear side of the spectrum), gifts, snacks, a salon, cycling classes, coffee, a Mediterranean food stand, an Italian restaurant and more. I feel like I've barely scratched the surface! While I didn't try any of the food options besides the gourmet popcorn place (which is surprisingly affordable for gourmet popcorn!) I loved the drinks I had at both Eat Bubbles (boba, matcha etc) and the irresistible Pont Neuf wine bar (both of which I'll review separately). And perhaps best of all: they have great seating areas throughout in which you can set up shop for working remotely, drinking your drinks, eating your snacks... so have at it!

Even though this was a new construction, it made sense for Green Hills and fit so perfectly. And even though the majority of the residents were chains (I'm guessing you need big money to afford this kind of rent), the stores were all appropriately suited for the area and all fit in to the complex. I'm not much of a shopper, but the Hill Center has sucked me in to buy furniture, food, clothes, gifts, and groceries. I'm surprised by how often I find myself here -- especially given that I don't live that close to the complex. I'm telling you: that's the power of pretty. After spending some time in Brentwood and marveling at the Hill complex there, I'm convinced that the Hill folks have the aspirational-yet-accessible aesthetic down to a science. *Some of the worst, most distracted drivers in the 615.

I am a walker and don't mind getting my happy ass up and down but these stores are just SO spread out it makes it rather difficult if you are carrying bags or its cold/rainy outside. They offer some really great discount stores that are near and dear to my heart like Michaels, TJ Maxx, Ross, etc. They also have a movie theater, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, etc within very short driving distance. Parking can be slightly crowded, but it's typically not horrible. This mall is a good stop in for a couple things (that are cheap) kind of place, but I wouldn't recommend it for heavy duty shopping.
